I will be contacting customer service. Hey and don't waste your time with their eye exams... the doctor is located in India and when they say "the doctor will be right with you" they mean on a screen. It's a VIRTUAL eye exam they charge $79 for!!!!!!!! Is that even normal to be able to scam patients that way? How do you expect to know anything about my eyes if you can't see them in person ? P. S: I called in today 3 days after paying full price for an eye exam and till no document. Marilyn is probably the worst supervisor I ever talked to in my life. She's a big scam artist that seriously needs to do something else for a living. Caution: They are not a VSP provider. When I called I said I with VSP. Nothing was said . When I there going over the numbers after my selected glasses nothing was said. I am very disappointed. Even the guy next to me wasn't sure how it worked. Stanton said they would handle the paperwork with the insurance company so when I called the insurance company to ask about was the claim submitted, they said yes, but told me that Stanton optical is not a network provider. I had an outstanding first experience at Stanton Optical in Merced. Upon arrival I provided my ID and insurance card for them to input in the system to make my check out easier later. I was able to get fitted for both contacts and glasses as well as being able to take a pair of contact lenses, solution, and a contact case home to get me started. Brenda was amazing and gave me an in depth tutorial of how to put in and remove my contacts as well as storage and cleaning them, and finally Andres helped me break down the cost of everything together and was able to apply some amazing deals for me. Overall pleased and will be back. Glasses will be here in about 2 weeks and my contact prescription should be ready in a few days read more

Today I showed up for my appointment. I sat down with my daughter, filled out necessary paper work and then to pass time we tried on glasses. I expressed I would be taking my prescription elsewhere, there is a locAl place I choose to support and in my opinion has higher quality classes. After he went to check my insurance allowance, which he had already said they accepted VSP insurance, he came back and said they would only honor my insurance if I committed to purchasing glasses at their store. I then canceled the appointment. What does this mean? If I didn't mention that, would they have revoked my insurance and charged me for my appointments after? I have had no issue in the past talon my prescription else were. And from what I'm reading this is not a legal practice. I look forward to speaking to the manager. read more

It was extremely easy to get an appointment at a time that is convenient for working people. When you are 1000% busy all of the time, this is a great place to get your exam, pick your glasses and order your contact lenses. I was seen this Saturday along with my mother and both of us left with what we needed. My mother's prescription is a bit tricky and so she will need to come in again to be seen by a manager so that the optometrist online can sign off on the prescription, but that is fine. BEWARE OF THE SALES AGGRESSIVE REPS! BE PREPARED TO BUY GLASSES LIKE YOU ARE BUYING A USED CAR! They will lure you in with a seeming great deal (two for... or a BOGO) But this only will apply to the LOWEST tier of frames AND lenses. Meaning a very small selection of frames for plastic lenses. Once you get there, they will rush you to the back to get the "free" eye exam. Once finished they hold it over your head they the eye exam is only free with the purchase of frames. If you do happen to find frames you like they then show all of the "add ons" which are anywhere from $50 - $150+ (to add insult to injury, these "add ons" are included as standard features of the lenses at other glasses stores, i.e Costco). If you are not paying attention, your bill will be +$300 for a single pair of glasses. (This goes without saying, but they earn commission on what they sell so they squeeze every penny they can out of you.) Since you have already been there for an hour+ and "the exam is only free with purchase" they hope that you just cave in and pay up $$$. This happened to me the first time I was here when I was a bit younger. I payed $400 for glasses with all of the add-ons because I was starting college and desperately needed new glasses. I was completely naive to the predatory sale practices and they got away with price gouging me because I was young and in desperate need of glasses and they saw that and capitalized on it. Said all of this to say be aware of how they do things here. If you know an elderly, younger, or maybe just generally conflict-avoidant person who needs glasses, I DO NOT recommend this place. If you do go here, I strongly advise bringing a friend who can confidently stand their ground and, for lack of better phrasing, call BS on some of their stuff. Its like buying a used car, think of it like that kind of environment. I have to say that the nurses and people in the medical part of Stanton are very sweet and have nothing to do with the sales floor. I recommend Costco if you have a membership. They offer a flat rate of $66 for all inclusive lenses (Hi-Index glass, blue light filter, anti-glare, all of it) And the sales reps don't earn commission so they don't see you as a bag of money. This most recent time I was there, which is the reason I am writing this now, I just got an eye exam. I was lured in with a two-for $79 deal but again it was for a very small selection and for plastic uncoated lenses. I saw that my only options were get low quality glasses that I don't like or get glasses I do like for $300... Or just walk out with my new prescription right now. Once they realized that I wasn't budging and they weren't getting commission from me they rushed me out the door and rung me up for my eye exam. They almost forgot to give me my printed out perspiration in the end. read more

I went in for my eye exam and the doctor was virtual. I am not sure how they can examine your eyes correctly that way but here we are. They ordered my glasses and they called me to pick them up. When I got there they told me that one of the lenses was scratched but I probably wouldn't notice it. They handed me the glasses. They then told me they had already ordered a new lens and would call me when it was in so they could change them out. Now a month later I haven't heard a word and so I call them. They say they never ordered a new lens and have no idea what is going on but I can go to the store and talk to them there. Honestly speaking I usually just write a comment on the negative services I receive but after going to Stanton in Merced, CA. I must admit that I had a great experience. The whole staff was great and very helpful. I was able to make an appointment at a moment's notice, and change my appointment with no problems. The facility had the most updated technology and they were all knowledgeable as well as answered every question for my family of 6 and me. Making an appointment was easy. My husband and I were seen the next day. Didn't find out that it was a virtual eye exam until after I got there. That was disappointing but If I did know that ahead of time I probably wouldn't have booked with them. They really should let people know that over the phone when booking. But I'm glad I came in. I was hesitant about virtual examine but it turned out great. The doctor not actually being in the room was not a big deal. He controlled all machines from where he was and it was no different than someone actually being in the room. Exam went smoothly for my husband and I. All the staff was friendly, especially Gabriel. He was so helpful and explained everything well. He was very professional. Their eyeglass selection was also great. One pair of my husband's frames were actually ready for pick up the next day. Their communication system is impeccable via text and email and an online portal where you can check order status. I definitely would recommend this place. read more

Update: My initial experience was very positive but the truth is, you get what you pay for. I had to go back several times as the glasses became loose very quickly. The quality of the lenses were poor which I noticed especially driving at night. I went back to my old eye doctor after buying a Vision insurance and bought quality glasses again. I see much better! So if you are desperate for glasses, go to Stanton. If there is any way you can afford a vision plan, go to a regular eye doctor and get quality lenses! read more

3 + 1/2 Stars This place is decent. Employees are very friendly but they are really big on getting you to make the Hugest purchase. We were expecting to spend less than $100 according to the advertisement we got in the mail. Essentially, the eye exam is free. The advertisement says you pay for one pair of glasses and the second pair of equal or lesser value is free (the advertisement said get 2 frames as low as $65) However: They didn't have any frames there less than $100 the day we came. Also, only the eyeglass frames are free; You have to pay for the lenses on both frames. On top of that, they will add an extended warranty and protective coating for the lenses for both pairs of glasses. Everything adds up to be about $450 depending on what frames you get. The trick is that they aim high at first with their sale. If you tell them you don't want the warranty, they will reduce the price. If you keep bargaining with them, you will get a lower price and eventually they will stop at a certain price. Our "price bargaining" stopped at $330. My wife also told me that the eye exam was via Skype. The doctor was on a television while the assistant was a person. I can recommend this place for their friendliness but just watch out for their sales. read more

Earlier this week I made an appointment thinking this would be more convenient for my wife and son eye exams at Stanton Optical in Merced, CA. My appointment was for 9:45am which was the time I arrived here today as soon we enter the an attendant standing at the back of the store in white smock yelled at us saying there a blue circles to your side just stand there and wait I responded there is no need to yell and if you want customers to do things or where to stand you should post a sign directing the customers to what they should be doing as we all come into the store, he continued to yell and apologized and we being load and Obnoxious then to make matters worst he was laughing this even it worst and made us feel very uncomfortable in the store then as we started to make a select to reassure that the sale pricing would be as described or correct but we were wrong there is no such price of $59.99 no glasses were $60 there were all priced differently, there's a price for the exam for the frames and if there's a minor which son happen to be there a lenses matter according to regulations of state law for poly lenses a other $200 by time you add all up it's roughly close to $300 dollars for the advertised price of $59.99 so please people don't be fooled by the great advertisement of $59.99 there's no such thing or promotional price and hopefully you wouldn't get yelled at like we did. I didn't happen to get close enough to the sales person because personally things wouldn't have gone well for him but if you want pay top dollar for frames or glasses at tripled price this the place for you or to go Amazon for a faction of a price or for a better look with Ray-ban Gucci or Kate Spades or Michael Kors . read more

Ordered glasses in person July 16, 2020. I live up in the mountains and made arrangements for them to ship the glasses to me since I am immune compromised so I wouldn't have to go back down into Merced to pick them up. Still waiting for my glasses. Every time I call the local number for Merced, I keep getting routed to their corporate offices and still don't get any answers as to where my glasses are. Ordered specialty sun glasses August 3 from Fogg, Maxwell, Lanier & Remington in their Oakhurst office and received a call today August 24, letting me know that my glasses were ready. Imagine being issued a contact and eye glasses prescription which has you exhausted from reading with the said prescription. Imagine finding it difficult to read and actually taking your glasses off to read anything. Imagine rarely wearing the contacts due to the fact you struggle to read anything up close. Now, imagine going back to your original optometrist and finding out how bad the prescription from Stanton was and finding out your prescription hadn't changed in years. Be lucky I give you one star. I have been wearing glasses for 15 years I have only had two frames break in my life but that was from normal wear and tear (sweat getting in the joints from sports), and the other got hit by a baseball (which let's be clear that's going to happen). I dropped my glasses on the carpet!!! DO NOT GET GLASSES FROM STANTON OPTICAL!!!! Their frames are trash! This was literally the first time I dropped this pair. I didn't like their service and I was skeptical about their frames just complete trash. Right when I picked up the frames they seemed flimsy. I have never been so pissed about a company. To top it all off I spent more on these frames than I did than all of my other frames they are a complete joke. read more

Took my mom for an eye exam recently, staff was great, very friendly, the exam was good, the selection of frames and attention to your needs was also good. They had great sale buy one get one which was good now my mom has a pair for home and another that polarizes to use when we go out. Probably closer to 3.5 stars. Just going to start by saying if you're going in to get the 2 for $59 special, I hope you have God awful taste because that's all you'll get at that price. I was tempted to still do that special, but I thought to myself "No, I'm not going to wear lime green square-framed glasses, you have to draw the line somewhere." Anyways so I splurged and went with the more expensive frames. I purchased the frames as part of their "Buy one, Get one free" offer. So after I agreed to spend way more than I came in for, the total came out to $356, which included 2 eyeglasses (as pictured), eye exam (prescription), and 2 cases for the glasses. Also just a side note, if you are someone like myself that doesn't know if you neccessarly need glasses per say, the eye exam is only free if you buy glasses. You know what it didn't include? Cleaning off the adhesive residue from the tag, or even a microfiber cloth. The staff was all extremely friendly, thank you, Alex, for helping me decide and sticking around 2 hours after closing. Would I do it again? Yes, but I would probably just ignore the BOGO offer and just buy one pair. read more

I came in for the free eye exam (really it's $29.99). There's not an actual doctor at the store. The doctor was on a Skype call. It was very weird. They do apply the $29.99 to your purchase of glasses. So I chose two really ugly frames and paid $69.99 for the whole experience. Honestly, though, I feel like they got my prescription wrong. I came in because I am having trouble seeing things in the distance, specifically out of one eye. According to them I need glasses for up close reading. I honestly feel like if I didn't need glasses, they might still tell me I did. I don't think the exam was thorough. I know sometimes optometrists dilate your eyes to get the correct prescription. They did not do that. It makes me wonder how accurate the exam is. The glasses I got seem like I could have just bought reading glasses on the rack at the drug store for $5.00. Also, they said 20 minutes to put my lenses in the frames I bought. I asked if I could go grab a coffee across the parking lot, and come right back with it, while my glasses were being prepared. They said no, and if I did that, they'd have to delay finishing my glasses, even though I already paid. That was really strange. So I just had to sit and wait for the glasses to be done, even though I could have quickly grabbed a coffee and come back. Maybe they don't want drinks in their store. The staff was nice, but they're definitely just sales people. I'd STRONGLY recommend going elsewhere for your eye exam and glasses needs. You cannot return your glasses once you realize you've been duped. read more

I visited the store in Merced, CA on Thursday, March 30, 2022. The store was clean, well organized and easy to navigate. I was able to find a couple of frames for my glasses. I will be trying progressive lenses for the first time but was assured that if they didn't work for me, I could come back and do an exchange and get single lenses. The Brand Manager (I forgot her name) was super helpful and patient with me. I'm looking forward to getting my new glasses in about 2 weeks. read more
