Save your time & money -- Rent a Rug Doctor & do it yourself! Decided to "treat myself" for spring cleaning this year. My "appointment" was a 4 hour window with the tech showing up at the very end of that window (total time off from work for me = 6 hrs). Almost $600 for a 20x 24 room, 7 foot couch, 2 armchairs and a 9x12 area rug. Tech "finished" all of that in 1.5 hours. The couch had visible clean vs dirty stripes. We had a spill the very next day on the "cleaned" area rug so I got out my carpet cleaning machine. The return water was black & the area I cleaned was a noticeable clean spot vs the rest of the rug. When I talked to a manager about the poor results I was offered another "window" appointment for a "consultation". No apology & didn't want to see photos. PLEASE READ THIS WHOLE REVIEW IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING STANLEY STEEMER OUT OF THE LENEXA, KS LOCATION: Requested 3 rooms cleaned plus one area rug. First time we used this service (carpets were 6 mos. old), we were very satisfied - carpets looked and smelled clean! We had had some specific spots that tech said he would pre-treat, and all came out. It looked great. NOTE: From then on, we chose to NOT wear shoes in our house, but left all shoes in front entryway. Now, about a year later, wanted a cleaning of carpets again -- not satisfied. Tech didn't ask about any trouble spots; I had to point out to him; no offer or mention was made of showing us the dirt extracted or opportunity to do a second clean while here. We waited from Friday until Monday to be sure carpets were completely dry and we re-vacuumed carpets. We could still see a couple of spots, and there was a bad odor not present before we had carpets cleaned. We bought our own Bissell carpet cleaning machine, followed directions, and rectified the poor job done by the 'professionals'. I did call the company; regional manager called - but their ONLY OPTION was to come out and reclean. We'd already done that and did a better job than their initial service. There was nothing to re-clean! We had already taken care of it. THEY ARE NOT FLEXIBLE -- AT ALL -- ON WHAT THEY WILL DO FOR YOU, THE CUSTOMER. They just want to keep coming out and re-cleaning the carpet. They didn't even offer to discount/refund us the charge for deodorizing the carpet. SO DISAPPOINTED WITH A COMPANY I USED TO HAVE FAITH IN. Most frustrating was their inflexibility to even come part-way with the customer. So in all, we spent $262 for three rooms, a rug, and deodorizing......PLUS more than $100 for our carpet cleaning machine and solution to rectify what they should have done right the first time. Just a thought -- why would you come out and clean a carpet, not check the water to see how much dirt you extracted, to then possibly recommend a second pass on the carpet while you are there, if they thought it needed it. Instead, the tech simply came out, ran his machine over each room, and the rug, packed up and got his payment. Made more sense to us to simply offer us a $100 refund instead of the time and expense of the regional manager's time (I don't care if he is salaried -- they are still paying him), administrative time to call and set another appointment with us, and then pay a tech to come out and do the job again. So frustrating --- customer service these days. I'm sorry Stanley Steemer, but if you are rated supposedly #1, you surely can afford an occasional $100 refund to a customer. Instead, you now have exposure to A LOT of people from us for a very poor recommendation. read more

While they do nice work, they sold us a package where they would come out and clean whenever we called them. Guess what? They don't answer phones and they don't return messages. We were scammed out of hundreds of dollars. Live and learn. read more

What a joke. Don't waist your money!!! My Carpet looks just like it did before they got here. What a waste of money. Yes l had some dark spots in my carpet. Doesn't everyone. That's why you get them cleaned. We asked him to go back over the traffic spots. He just said l did the best he could. After he left l had to get on my hands and knees and scrub them out. I'm an older person and have medical problems. That is why l paid a professional to do it. It's hard enough for me to move all of the furniture. I moved into my new place and had to have my carpets cleaned because I like a clean house. I called around and they are actually one of the more affordable ones in town. Two of the technicians came to my house to clean. They explained the process and were very thorough. While I felt that they did a great job, there was really a push to upsell the deodorizer and stain protection which I really didn't need. The previous owner had a dog and I went and bought some Arm and Hammer carpet powder and that took care of any odors left over from pets which were minimal. This place is good for cleaning services but be prepared for a hard sale of additional products. It was a no brainer to me since they were about less the price than the local cleaning places around here, and my house feels much cleaner now. read more

Will never go through them again. They over charge me 3 times over! Charge me for 2 sets of stairs and 2 living rooms for protection and deodorize. Then charge me twice for 1 living cleaning! Charged me $100 more than I should have paid. I tried to talk with someone on the about the bill and they said that's how they bill. Very disappointing. I have 1 set of stairs a 1 living downstairs, my home is maybe 1000 Sq ft. They charged for a much bigger home. Never again will I have them in my home! read more

If you are going to use this company, at the very least, don't be stupid like me and leave while they do the service. They will not do what you asked them to do. I hired this company $480 to clean my white tile and grout and have a sealant put on the tile in order to get my townhouse ready to put on the market. I unfortunately had many other things to do that day, so I showed the two young men around and left. While there is a slight improvement, there is in no way almost $500 worth of cleaning services and no sealant was put on. The young men were very nice, but I did find it a little unprofessional that one of them asked me how much the rent was because he liked the layout. I'm overall pretty disgusted I paid that much money and got what I got. I submitted a survey after the service with my disapproval after the service was performed and did not get a response. Please do your research before going with this company, I wish I would have read the terrible online reviews before I wasted my money. read more

I made a appointment for them to arrive between 8a-12p to clean my carpets. They basically ruined my entire Saturday WAITING! And, then when I called I was informed they might be running late. RUNNING LATE??? I'll use a local company that actually needs the work. Maybe then I'll be serviced by professionals! read more

They showed up to clean air ducts. We're at the house a total of an hour and a half and l would have done a better job with my own vacuum. Left their mess for us to clean up in the basement as well as under all the air returns. I popped off all the air registers and furnace cover and took pics of their way below par work. $545 for nothing. They wanted to come do a re-cleaning and I said no. I wanted a refund and they said it's not company policy. 45 years in business and can't clean right? Other companies said it would take 4 to 5 hrs for the job. Called and scheduled to have my carpets cleaned. Got a text reminder of the appointment the day prior from Stanley Steamer. I made arrangements to clear my day for the 5 hour window for the cleaning. I got notified by an automated call during my window of time that due to staffing issues they would not be coming. Shame on you Stanley Steamer not only did my carpets not get cleaned but I made myself available for nothing. Time is money. Horrible way to do business. Not even the courtesy to have a human call to apologize. read more

We had a main drain back up with sewage. Stanley steemer was the only company that could get out immediately. They got everything cleaned up and taken care of. They explained what all they would do, gave me estimate and that's exactly what I paid. They left fans and a dehumidifier on for 3 days. They came everyday to see how the drying was going. I am very satisfied with their service and costs. I will be using them again if I need to read more

Wanted to get my carpets cleaned before having company stay with us. My house never had an odor before, but The areas that Stanley Steemer did smell terrible now and smelled up the entire room and it still hasn't gone away. I'm assuming it's because they left my carpets completely saturated and didn't dry them properly and the manager said it might have been a bad batch of deodorizer? Even after drying the rooms they did have a noticeable odor and Now I'm having to pay for a different company to come out and clean them. They wouldn't even refund me my whole bill. We had a great experience over the weekend (we were having just our basement carpets cleaned)! Fred and Jay arrived to our house right on time and set up in minutes. They set up, cleaned the basement carpet and loaded their truck in 30 minutes it was incredible. They were quick and efficient and extremely friendly. The cost for just a basement, stairs and a small room in the basement was totally reasonable too. Highly recommend using Stanley Steemer! read more

Made on-line appointment on Monday, with the Steemer crew to show up on Wednesday between 9:00 am and noon. At 11:30 am I got a call that they'd be here by noon. They finally showed up at 1:30 pm. The two young guys on the crew did a good job, but Stanley Steemer's scheduling guys need some adult supervision. Had I taken off work (I work at home) to wait for them, I'd have been pretty put out. As it is, when they finally got here they did a good job. I might use them again, but I'd have to have a heart-to-heart with the owner first to ensure they'd be here within the time range they set. the young men who came out did a great job. They were able to get most of the coffee stain out of my carpet. It has been there for several years. My carpets look great. They did Master Bedroom, Finished Basement and 3 set of stairs. I would recommend them to anyone. We have a dog so we really appreciated having them cleaned well and with no chemicals. I had my tile and grout cleaned. They did an OK job with that. However, they would not let up on trying to sell me sealant for the grout. I said no repeatedly and they would not let up. They started talking about it the moment they entered and still did as they were leaving. They could care less about the questions I had! We had Stanley Steemer out yesterday to clean our tile grout in kitchen and dining room. The technician was friendly, efficient and worked hard to clean our grout. Only problem was that the grout didn't clean up and we are no better off and spent $178 dollars. I think it was a total waste of time and money. Again, it wasn't the fault of the employee, it's just that their system doesn't work. I will definitely not use them for anything again and will get no referrals from me. read more

We scheduled a cleaning between 4-6, they showed up at 2:30 and told us it was now or never that day because they had someone else schedule between 4-6. We are a dental office full of patients at this time and it would not work for us. We called the company about this issue and they told us there was never a garuntee that they would be there between 4-6, even though we recieved a confirmation call the day before. Set an appointment over a week ago. They told me 2:00. Then I got an email saying 12:00 to 4:00. I called at 3:00 and they said they would be there about 3:30. 20 min. later I get a call saying it would be between 5:30 and 6. I told them this was not acceptable, and was poor service. I had spent most of the morning removing furniture and sweeping the floor for the tile to be cleaned. I was then told that My job was a small job so they put others in front of me. I was furious. Worst experience ever. They didn't get my carpet clean and they broke my water line and tried to run out leaving the water running. My husband had to fix it. I complained and a supervisor offered to help, but my husband had already fixed the problem. Funny, though, they couldn't call to tell me that they had broken my faucet, but they had not problem trying to upsell things I didn't need. They used to be a good company. read more

I have used Stanley Steamer several times over the last few years to clean our carpets. I have been very pleased with the results. One of the times that I had them come out, it was to clean a very bad diarrhea mess made by our dog in the middle of our living room. There is absolutely no stain or smell--and this was cleaned about 6 months ago. Cleaning has held up well. This year I had them clean 2 of our upholstered couches. They seemed to be very thorough. The cleaners were not pushy with additional services but did let me know about other services and which that my carpet might benefit from based on what they had noticed. They were very efficient and cleaned 6 bedrooms, LR, DR, Basement, hallway, 2 stairs, and 2 couches in just over 3 hours. Highly recommend there service. read more

I was able to get online on a Sunday evening and book my appointment for Monday! And the website even gave me a quote which was very fair. The people were friendly and they did a good job however when the man went out to get his bill paying machine he forgot to put his booties on and we didn't realize until they left that he had tracked in and made mud footprints on the carpet steps. I got out the spot shot and cleaned my steps. I paid to have my carpet cleaned in 3 rooms and ended up cleaning my own steps. Tom (Thomas) and Marcus (Lemarcus) cleaned all of the carpets in my condo this past Saturday. The carpets were so soiled and stained I was embarrassed to have anyone visit. They did an absolutely fantastic job. They both worked diligently to remove the stains and make an old carpet look like new. I have only one complaint and it has nothing to do with the gentlemen who cleaned my carpets. I was told on two occasions that I would receive a call a half an hour before the technicians would arrive. That was very important to me as I have two cats and I needed that time to "herd" them and get them put away in a room with their food, water, litter, etc., that I could close so they wouldn't either be in the way or go crazy because of the strangers and the noise. Initially I blamed the technicians but they said that it was the responsibility of the dispatch office to make the call. Needless to say, it took me nearly a half an hour to chase down the cats and get them secured. I call the 1-800-STEEMER number and all I got from the rep was his apology and a promise he would have the manager call me either Monday (8/31/15) or Tuesday (9/1/15).
