The teachers are all engaging, and they really take the time to connect with each child. Our daughter talks about the teachers all the time at home. The development of this meandering park has an interesting history and impacted local politics at the time of the big debate surrounding its implementation. In 1886 the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) was given 5300 acres in Vancouver by the Provincial Government in exchange for the development of the transcontinental railway stretching to Vancouver. By 1968, Marathon Realty, the development arm of the CPR, was poised to develop this swampy 40 acre site as one of Western Canada's largest shopping centres. This plan for a $20 million centre was immediately opposed by a local group, the Arbutus-Quilchena Homeowners' Association, which was specifically formed to fight Marathon's plans. Lawyer Jack Volrich, later Vancouver's Mayor, was the leading spokesperson for the group and attributed the controversy as the impetus for his political career. The development controversy lasted for four years and resulted in a much scaled down shopping centre, mixed housing and the dedication by the developer of parkland at a cost of $100,000 which was turned over to the Park Board in 1977.

The attendants, smiling and courteous as ever, politely exhorted us into checking our seat belt buckles numerous times, which was slightly unnerving. Sure enough, once the real show began and the floor dropped away below our feet, I understood why they were so thorough. We took off and seemingly dipped and swirled through the skies over Iceland - it was quite lovely and spectacular, and realistic to the point where I eventually felt nauseated. Was it worth it? Yes. Would I do it again? Sure would. But next time I'll remember to take a ginger pill first:)

However, while there I also tried the Primal Swing and the Zipline tour. All three were a rush! The staff were very friendly and competent. They were great at helping their customers feel safe. The bungee jumps were especially awesome. The only complaint I could make is that bungee jumpers were not reeled back up to the bridge after the jumps. Instead, we were lowered to a raft on the river below, where we were (safely) unhooked from the bungee cord. However, that meant the jumpers now had to climb over a hundred feet of stairs to get back to the top of the canyon. Other than that, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day, and I'd recommend it to other thrill seekers out there.
