We had been wanting to replace the carpet on our second floor with hardwood for a long time. Stanley Flooring helped us move our furniture (into existing storage area on our property), replace the carpet with beautiful hardwood, taking apart areas of the closets where needed and then expertly putting everything back together once the wood was in. They were timely, efficient (even finished a couple days ahead of schedule), and communicated well with us. First the disclaimer: I worked professionally in the construction and renovation of residential and commercial buildings for a number of years. I recently hired Stanley's to refinish the maple floors, remodeling the kitchen in my 110-year old house. I contacted Stanley based on recommendations from a friend. I solicited bids from several companies and found Stanley to be on the more reasonable end of the price spectrum. I then carried out a discussion via e-mail with Lucatz P., a 15-year employee who is in the process of becoming the new owner. There's a right way and wrong way to refinish floors so I wanted to make sure that all the proper steps would be a followed and that my project would not be subject to some of the shortcuts that I've seen floor finishers try to get away with. Lucatz personally did the work at my house, was very thorough and followed all the right procedures. My maple floors have never looked so good. Oh boy, where do I start. I guess I should start with the fact that they walked off the job, half-way through because of a disagreement we had, instead of hashing things out. In reading some of the filtered reviews, it seems I'm not the only one who had a verbal agreement with Stanley go south. Stanley seems to do a lot of talking and then remembers what he wants to remember. There were many many small discrepancies between the work and our contract, but three things really ticked me off. First, our contract specified select hard maple while Stanley laid #2 common soft maple. He convinced me to take it with a steep discount. Frankly, I didn't mind the more rustic feel but I told him to remove all the knots. He flew off the handle and threatened to leave. We decided the remove only the worst of them. Second, Stanley laid the flooring one bundle after the next. For those who don't know, #2 maple has both sapwood and heartwood and the boards must be woven in, distributing the color evenly. Well, he didn't. We had large patches of white and large patches of brown. Fine...concession number 2. We plan to used area rugs anyways. The final straw was the finish. I requested Waterlox and Stanley said, "no problem". When it came time to finish, he claimed we had no such discussion and it would cost the full discounted price to use it. Eventually he admitted he had never heard of Waterlox and didn't know where to source it. Now (!) I (!) flew off the handle and strongly suggested he FIND someone who does at the discounted price. After a few minutes of verbal sparring, he packed up and left. Two days later we get an invoice for the balance of our contract....???SERIOUSLY??? Since he was subbed out, we were not afforded the option to preemptively sue him. Unfortunately it had to be our GC, who is a good friend of ours. Without disclosing too many details, our GC paid the balance out of his own pocket and vowed never to use Stanley again. I would not put it passed him for liens to be placed on customers' homes after similar disagreements. AFAIC, he's a crook. Food for thought to make all the subs sign a waver. read more

From custom colors, to color matches, to weaving in new floors with decades old ones, never an issue. And if I've ever had damage done after the fact they always come back. He was able to break down the cost for all the work and was able to get started on the work rather fast. I tried calling to see if they can do an estimate on Flooring repair. The guy that answered the phone replied, "of course, we are a flooring company" with a very sarcastic tone. He then asked specific details on what I needed. Any ordinary person would not know what he is talking about. I explained that to him. He obviously didn't want to listen and started yelling at me for no reason. I just simply wanted a person to come over to do an estimate for repair. He wanted material and supply details before he send someone. How am I supposed to know? That's why I called them for the estimate!!! How can they expect people to use their services if they treat their customers in the manner they treated me??? I will never consider using them!!! I suggest you don't either!!!! read more

do not recommend. I was quoted a price for buffing and refinish, my floor did have some scratches. I paid $400 for them to come and scratch my floor some more. He did a terrible job. The guy barely spoke a word of English and when I asked him about the floor all he said was ok, so I assumed it did not need to be sanded. Furthermore, I was told they would be at my home after lunch, the guy did not show up until 4:30 pm., he spent one hour doing a half ass job and left. When I contacted the owner about redoing the job 2 include sanding, he now wants $800 more, very disappointed in this company and will make sure you know about it, before you spend your hard earned money on them... read more

I contacted the company via email for a free in-home inspection and estimate. I explained that my bedroom floor which was covered with carpept, had missing floorboards in areas where the carpet was not sealed properly. After 2 other companys found the problem and quoted prices, I was looking to see if Stanley could offer a better rate. When the technician reviewed the floor, he became visibly upset, stating that I called him all the way out here for nothing. He didn't see anything wrong (again after 2 other company's found and detailed the problem). He then left aggravated. This is poor customer service and I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

Stanley's just completed installing new wood flooring for me. An excellent job! Stanley had a great assortment of woods at different price points to choose from. He and his crew were always on time, were polite and very tidy. They had a few challenges with our condo due to the trim on our floor to ceiling windows. They worked on figuring out the removal and replacement of the trim to perfection. The job was completed ahead of schedule to boot. I definitely would recommend Stanley's. read more

I spoke with Stanley, the owner over the phone to receive a quote. I gave him the dimensions of the two rooms we wanted to have hardwood floors refinished in. He also agreed to help move furniture (since I'm eight months pregnant and my husband couldn't do it by himself) and remove the carpet which was over the hardwood floors. We agreed on a price, and I even went over what the price would include again before hanging up. He sent three men over to start the job four days later. The men showed up and put me on the phone with Stanley, the owner. He asked what day he had talked to me for the quote, and seemed like he didn't remember our conversation or which day he talked to me. He said that the carpet removal alone would cost what he quoted me for the whole job. I, of course, reminded him of the quote we agreed on four days earlier, and he acted like he had no idea what I was talking about. Since I had been quoted the same price from a different company, I told him we'd no longer need his services, and sent the 3 men away. I would not reccomend using this company. The owner is either dishonest or very forgetful and unorganized. read more
