When I received a quote, I asked the woman if that "really" was the final amount, or if I was later going to be required to pay an obligatory, mystery up-charge. She said that the quoted amount represents a "binding contract," and is the final amount. However, as expected, during pick-up, the truck driver told me that, for all kinds of mystery reasons, the price had gone up. This is pretty standard. And it amazes me, since I was meticulous in measuring the cubic footage of every item. Understandably, I expressed my annoyance to the driver, as I have a right to. I wasn't at all loud or using foul language. He interrupted like he was in charge, and "told" me to let him finish talking (I had not interrupted him, by the way). If you are 25, don't try to shut an older woman up. It will not be accepted well. The only positive thing I can express about this experience is that the men who picked-up and delivered my items were outstanding. They were efficient, quick, and as I observed, very careful in wrapping and carrying. AND this was the first move I've done in which almost no items were lost or damaged. Don't be fooled by reviews on pick up day. That's fine and dandy! Getting your belongings is the problem. Delivery was scheduled for 3/26, they tried to deliver 3/24. Mind you I am moving from Illinois to Texas. Once I said I would not be there the 24th I was then told "technically"they have up to 30 days from first available delivery date. Just now getting my items 4/8. They want money before unloading so if something is broken to contact the office. Looking at other reviews it seems like they only offer low amounts of money no matter how expensive your item is. Also the insurance doesn't really cover anything!! Don't be dumb and naive like me. They did a fantastic job protecting our furniture and household items, were very personable and respectful, and genuinely seemed to care about our belongings. That said, I want to be very clear for anyone considering a move: our biggest issue has not been with Stanford's crew, but with the broker we were set up with, New Start Relocation. The initial quote we received from "Luke" was wildly inaccurate, and the way the process works was not clearly explained up front. One major detail that was left out is that brokers can legally take up to 30 days to deliver your belongings. Had we known that beforehand, we would have chosen a different route entirely. We moved from Missouri to Washington, and it has now been a week since our items were wrapped and loaded. As of now, our shipment has not been dispatched, scheduled, or assigned a delivery date. There is no clear timeline for delivery, and we are currently living in an empty house halfway across the country. My wife is pregnant, which makes not having our belongings for an extended and unknown period of time an even bigger challenge. So far, the overall experience has not been pleasant due to the broker side of things. Stanford itself does not seem to be the issue, and again, Noe and Eddie did an outstanding job. That's not much notice at all, especially with work schedules, but at this point we just want our stuff, so we agreed. We moved from Missouri to Washington and have been living in an empty house. My wife is pregnant, which makes this whole situation even harder. Not having furniture, a bed, or basic household items has forced us to eat out constantly and even stay in hotels at times so she can be comfortable. The extra costs from this have added up fast. Today is the 9th. Since we hadn't heard anything, I called just to check in. That's when I was told our delivery had been pushed back--without anyone calling us--to the 12th or 13th. The 13th will be day 30. I was also told it could still change again. So if I hadn't called, we apparently just wouldn't have known. I already took off work through Wednesday to be available for delivery. With this change, I'm now looking at missing nearly a full week of work because of a company that keeps moving the date with zero communication. This whole process has been incredibly stressful, expensive, and frustrating. The lack of communication and constantly shifting delivery dates are unacceptable. At this point, I'll be shocked if our belongings actually arrive when we're now being told. If our things are not delivered by the 30-day mark, we are seriously considering filing a complaint with the FMCSA. I do not recommend going through this process. I take back what I previously said the language barrier between the drivers dispatch customer service is astounding when my items were picked up I told them there would be absolutely no room for a 50' trailer and they still showed up in one even after the driver had called me to ask if a 50' trailer would fit t two days prior. ALSO--maybe be suspect of a company that somehow adds (4) five star reviews within three hours of this review---all by "people"who have only ever posted that one review. Easy way to manipulate your star rating. Don't get "sold" by any kind of scammer. Don't make our mistake. RESEARCH. Dig into the Google reviews where an uncomfortable number say they felt intimidated to post five star reviews before their items unloaded. VERIFY. Check with the Better Business Bureau For interstate moves, movers typically charge based on weight, not cubic feet, because it is a more standardized and regulated method that is easily verified by the Department of Transportation (DOT). Weight is the standard for long-distance moves, and estimates based on weight are required for non-binding estimates. You have the right to be present for the weighing of the truck and to request weight tickets to verify the final cost. NOTE: be highly suspect of any company who will move your items interstate by cubic foot. WEIGHT is the standard. Because it's SAFER for the consumer. Used moving.com I did not realize at the time I was hiring a broker. I had (12) estimates all ranging from low $1950-2700. I sent detailed photos to each company. Factored in more $ for a "binding estimate". The agreed upon price was $2250 for furniture (no boxes or personal items) from STL to chicago suburbs. ....We were assured those photos and details had been communicated and sent to Stanford, whom they hired to complete our move.... Payment to the broker was completed by credit card, but we were told Stanford would only accept cash or money order upon loading and unloading our items --which was fishy. Upon arrival the Stanford van lines driver told us that instead of 440cu ft of items it was 880. And the price was now $4700. We called the broker who rather smugly informed us that it was just an estimate and if we didn't use them we would be out the $700 deposit. Stanford offered to reduce price by $500. We declined and sent them on their way. I received a call from the driver saying he was authorized to take a price of $3000. We still said no. I had genuine concern they would hold our items hostage and require more cash-money to unload. I have since hired another company. We had a walk through on property before move noting square feet and weight of all items to be moved--exact same items as original contract. Move actually came in lower than what they estimated (this moving company priced by weight) Our move cost was $2400-contract estimate. That was with a licensed freight company with a forty-year track record. And I paid with a credit card. No demand for cash or money order. Adding to clarify: Every moving company representative that saw our items in person or on video (a total of two in-person estimates and one video--all from large, long established well-known carriers after the Stanford debacle) stated we had LESS than 440 cubic feet. Including the mover we eventually hired for the job. Furthermore--the *actual* weight was in the neighborhood of 3600 lbs. We paid for this move based on weight. What I learned: It's safer to hire the moving companies willing to walk through your property and see items. "Binding estimate" is not a guarantee of pricing. Weight feels as if it may provide a more secure method for the customer to gauge pricing. Clean and exact. There is no layman method to disprove cubic feet. And in a desperate moment, feels this is how people may or may not be subject to fraud: ready to move, on a time line, no way to disprove "the drivers" estimate of the size of the load. At their mercy at a vulnerable moment. ---Adding here that Stanfords first reply to this yelp post was that it was the homeowners right to deny the move. Then that was deleted and revised. Yes. That's the homeowners right. However in the moment how many are inclined and have the pragmatic option to make that choice. With a moved based on cubic foot, the mover has all control ---- Note the five star reviews here where that is the "only" review from that "person". This is what I posted after no response. Finally got a response asked to take down and wast told would work on as priority. It's now been over 45 days. How is that a priority? I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding the extremely unprofessional service I received during my move on Friday, June 13, 2025, from Beloit, WI. At 2:24 PM, I received a call stating that your movers were on their way to my residence. Upon arrival, I was informed the truck would be loaded and we would depart the same day. When I asked how long loading would take, I was told 3 to 4 hours. Given the move was a 5-hour drive by car--and approximately 7 hours for your truck--I made it clear that I was not comfortable towing a U-Haul trailer in the dark, nor did I want the truck unloading late at night in a residential neighborhood. After a back-and-forth discussion and a phone call by the driver, it was finally agreed that the truck would depart the following morning. After signing all the paperwork, the crew began packing. One of the movers worked diligently wrapping my TV and other items. However, the driver took a total of at least five breaks (I have three photos documenting this), which were not brief. By 8:00 PM, I was told they were done for the day and would return Saturday morning to pick up my bed. At this point, I noticed a significant amount of my belongings still hadn't been loaded. When I asked why, I was told the truck was full. I inspected the truck and saw it had been packed inefficiently--if done properly, much more could have fit. Because of this, I had to make a second trip to Beloit on Sunday to retrieve the remaining items--resulting in an additional day of U-Haul rental costs, which I had not budgeted for. On Saturday, I was told the truck would leave at 7:00 AM. However, I didn't hear from the driver until 2:41 PM whenIcalled him, at which time I was told their arrival would be at 4:20 PM. Upon unloading, I requested that larger items--including my bed, TVs, dresser, and totes marked "kitchen" and "bedroom"--be brought inside. None of the totes were brought in, and my bed was not assembled as promised. Furthermore, both my old and new homes were left in disarray. Tape, boxes, and packing paper were left behind--some of which flew out of the truck while it was being moved with the doors open, putting my belongings at risk. I also noticed a leg of my kitchen table was loose. I saw the driver notice this issue, yet he neither addressed it nor mentioned it to me. Instead, he placed a TV on top of it, leaving it unstable and unsafe. When I booked this move, I was told I'd have my bed set up and ready to sleep in on the first night at my new home. Instead, I was left to sleep on a couch after a long, exhausting day. My tool box, needed to reassemble my bed, had been placed somewhere in the garage without my knowledge. As a result of the delays and disorganization: I had to rent the U-Haul for an extra day. I had to make a second 10-hour round trip. I missed a day of work on Monday to catch up on unpacking. I am requesting appropriate compensation for the following: The extra day of U-Haul rental My lost wages due to the missed workday The additional labor I had to complete myself The unprofessional behavior and disorganization of your crew It has also been extremely frustrating that, despite assurances, no one from your company has followed up with me. If I do not receive a response and resolution within seven (7) days, I will file a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau and share my experience across social media platforms and relevant consumer forums. That was my letter...below is my review I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. As their service was beyond horrible. Their communication is horrible between the mover and employer employee. If I could, I would upload the pictures of the mess, they left me. I had Stanford Van Lines for my move from MN. to MT. I originally called Safe Ship Moving Services not knowing that they brokered to outside companies. The movers who packed my items did a great job. My move date was 8-18-25. My possessions arrived 9-4-25 for a total time of 18 days. The drivers (different from the packers) were late by an hour because they got lost. Once they started to unload I specifically request boxes with red writing on them to be placed upfront so they would be easily accessible for me since they had all my winter gear in those boxes. That would be clothing, boots, jackets, etc. Some of those boxes were in fact put in the front however, when I went to retrieve them, I had to empty out about a third of my storage unit to try to reach other boxes and then ultimately realized that there were some way in the back that were completely inaccessible (I could see them). While looking for these boxes, I came across a living room chair that had a very large heavy plastic bin placed on it, and then on top of that bin four more heavy large boxes. Because of the weight of all of these boxes, the chair buckled and was destroyed. I immediately put in a claim, but unfortunately because I had picked the release value protection, which is your basic partial coverage I was only offered $30 in compensation for my chair which cost me $782 and was only three years old! My possessions were very haphazardly placed in my storage unit, even though I was trying to keep an eye on them and I had a couple rows of boxes that had actually tipped over and were leaning against the wall. Regardless of the protection that I picked it shouldn't excuse Stanford Van lines from doing the right thing due to very careless and improper handling. Bottom line I would stay far far away from Stanford Van Lines, and safe Ship Moving Services. This has been a horrible experience for me. It has been almost 4 months and I am nowhere close to receiving any fair compensation from this company for my destroyed chair as I have been told in no uncertain terms to go through arbitration. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I waited to write this review to see what would come from me filling out the insurance info due to all the damages they caused. Worst moving experience ever. And I've moved multiple times to multiple different states. Horrible experience from beginning to end. Initial quote was great - told them 3-4 bedrooms worth and price seemed worth it. Yet when they arrived, they tripled the price, telling me I was under quoted. And whose fault was that, when I listed what I had and rooms it took up? So I called another company who quoted cheaper, resulting in Stanford Van lowering their price some. Yet I was still stuck with this awful company as the initial costs I put down was non-refundable. So it was either I lose out on the thousands I put down and go with someone else or stick it out. I should've just lost my money and gone with someone else.. they broke or damaged almost every item of mine. And the best part? They gave me $100 for the damages. They broke electronics (like TVs - worth far more than $100). Laughable. Even more laughable when the first movers specifically wrote on some items WITH ARROWS pointing how it needed to be kept upright. And how was it delivered? On its side or upside down. Yelp doesn't seem to permit photos, but on Google I was able to post photos of how they threw everything into the truck and a few damaged items. Don't go with them. There are better, more reliable moving companies out there. In addition, they've recently reached out to attempt bribery to get me to remove my review. $500. When I paid almost $10K. this company doesn't care about rectifying the issue, only getting their poor reviews off any site. read more

We contacted a moving company which subbed out the move to Stanford Van Lines. Right from the start the price changed 3 times increasing about $1500.00 each time. When they finally loaded out and got to our destination the next afternoon and unloaded we noticed that there were 4 items damaged. First and most consequential was the washer and dryer set. This was a 2 year old set in pristine condition when picked up. After unloading there were several dents, chips and scratches in both. Also the headboard and a dining room ch were chipped and scratched. We submitted a claim to Anthem claim management which denied the washer and dryer saying normal ware and tear. We provided before and after photos which clearly shows no damage. All said and done. The insurance company suggested a payment of $124.80. the washer and dryer cost $2200.00 Alone. Read the fine print as the insurance is a complete joke and the movers will destroy your property. They also put a hole in the bedroom wall we moved from. I repaired that would have cost about $600.00 to repair and paint. Do yourself a huge favor and avoid this company at all costs as they are terrible!!!! read more

Very poor, missing a complete bed and they say they cannot find it, missing glass shelves for refrigerator. Have yet to find power supplies and remotes for stand-up recliner and sofa and love seat. Most boxes not labeled as to contents. Two weeks after 10 day delivery window they showed up. Excuse was that a crew member had a family emergency and they were trying to find replacement. Then driver could not drive 18 wheeler to our street, I had to rent u haul for them to transfer goods from 18 wheeler to U-haul to our house. I was told my belongings would be delivered to my new destination by Ivan, if that's really his name, on October 1,2025. As of the 3rd we have no idea where my belongings are or when they will even deliver. They have Demanded $1500 in cash upon delivery. The police have been notified and a complaint filed with The Better Business Bureau. Maybe they could avoid a law suit if they actually delivered my belongings, all of them without damage. I was charged almost an additional $700 for the extra 100 cu sq ft that was added after my quote since the driver who picked up said he wanted to ensure my items were packed safely. I agreed to pay, since the truck was already packed, it took almost 7 hours to load my 2 bedroom house it was after 10p and I had a two hour drive ahead of me with my small children. I was also charged $180 for packing crates that I was not aware of nor was anything in crates when my items were delivered. My main complaint is since I paid the extra money to ensure my items had the extra space to be secured when the driver showed up everything was packed to the top of the truck, smashed, and falling over. A box fell out of the truck falling onto the driver when he opened the door! I have broken items, smashed boxes and the driver was standing on my items there for breaking them while unloading. I did not get my deposit back from the house I was renting that I moved out of since the carpet was black from the dolly's they used during pick up and it was the night before I had to move out so there wasn't enough time to have carpet cleaners come again! No one ever picks up the phone no matter what extension you select and it hangs up on you so I can't put in a claim if I wanted to. read more

I'm going to continue to document this journey. So I was told that my furniture would be here between Wednesday and Saturday. Today I was told that it's probably looking more like Sunday. Originally they said they couldn't drive more than 800 miles in a day and today he said it was 500 miles. It's been three days since the original conversation and as of today it looks like they have only made it to Springfield, which is about eight out of the 32 hours that needs to be driven. I have already been without any furniture or supplies for over a week. Like I have mentioned I think that communication in terms of delivery date, the responsibility mostly lies on the actual broker. That said, hearing today that they're not going to meet The Wednesday to Saturday delivery date is not promising. So I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I will continue to update so that hopefully this helps somebody else. been pleasant and professional. read more

Worst company ever!!! Don't use!!! From day one this company made this move difficult. Then when they showed up they demanded more money before starting and it just so happened to be the same amount of money as our deposit .. (strange huh???) they packed us in two box trucks over two days and when they finally arrived at our new home it was in a huge semi truck which means they moved it twice now without telling us ... on top of it all being Russian speaking workers and no English with both the pack up crew and then they sent 2 new Russian guys to unload a truck that needed at least 5 people if not more esp since they had a baby grand piano to put back together ( which these two guys new nothing to do about it) .. they dropped the 10k dollar piano off the truck onto the ground and it's now damaged, broken and needs to be fixed or replaced.. this "white glove" service is joke.. every box we opens was packed like a 2 yr old packed and in a rush .. nothing wrapped in bubble wrap or paper and everything came broken in the box since they just throw the stuff inside and tape it up .. even the clothes that we paid to have in wardrobe boxes were just piled up high and all my suits just in a pile and nothing hanging on one rack .. the two movers got here and complained for two days straight and kept asking us why we moved certain items because it was just more work for them .. when it's our stuff we had payed to have moved so why are you asking any questions about anything in our pack up .. just do your job . Nope .. had to use a dolly for everything including dumbbells going down into a basement and they dropped them all down the stairs so I asked them to use their arms to carry them down and they yelled at me to do it . So I almost had to get physical with the movers but, held my restraint and told him I was paying him to do his job correctly so to get back to work .. and every 10 mins they took cigarette breaks for 20 mins so they could of had us unloaded in one day but, nope 50 smoke breaks and we took video and photos of every time they stopped .. they refused to bring things where they belonged they refused to put beds back together after they took them apart and refused to do anymore after truck was unloaded and we paid 21k for this move !!! All we got were boxes with broken things we loved and complete attitude from two Russian idiots for two days straight that move people for a living but.. for some reason found it impossible to go up and down stairs and or move anything without bitching about what it was or where it had to go . They just did not want to work .they kept asking us to help them and once we touch any of the stuff from the truck we are held liable for something broken so we didn't fall for that trick .. they were just rude, slow , incompetent jerks that def hate what they do for a living and I'm not even sure they had their green cards .. best part of the whole thing is they drove off with all of our paperwork since we wrote "have not had time to inspect everything on all 12 papers and he ran off with carbon copies !!! So don't ever use this mafia of a Russian incompetence moving company !!! Worst experience of our lives .. and wow!! Still going through the aftermath!! Already owe us 10k for a new piano .. time to just add it all up !!! This has got to be the worst moving company ever! If I could give a zero star I would! It took this company three weeks to get my belongings from Ohio to Florida. When they came to pick up my stuff in Ohio, they charged me an extra $1200. I had basically an efficiency room of my things. They said that I had more volume than what I was originally quoted. When they finally decided to deliver my stuff to me, it was on a Saturday afternoon and then called and said they could come a day earlier at night. I was told all along that I could use either a postal money order, cash, or Zelle. When they arrived, they wanted cash and I fought them because I did not have it. I was paying through Zelle. Unfortunately, Zelle decided not to that night. So they tried to charge me $700 more to go not even a half a mile up the road to the truckstop by my house overnight. I fought them about that also and then they lowered it to $350. Which was !! A couple of things were damaged, nothing important. So they ended up charging me about $1500 more than I was originally quoted. They are a big rip off!! Run far far away from this company!!! read more
