Hello, I don't like leaving a bad review due to me being a customer of Stan Parente Maple Valley Salon for a few years. I had to switch to a new hairstylist to get an appointment in and decided on Jessilyn due to her being a senior stylist. I made an appointment a week in advance. Everything was going well till the person at the front desk came to the back where I was at the sinks getting rinsed and said there was a person that needed to get their hair styled and could Jessilyn do it. With no regard to me and my in-progress appointment she agreed. From there on I was delegated to the helpers in the salon to finish what was needed at the sinks. Jessilyn then rushed over cut my hair quickly in an obvious rush to get to the other client and then delegated the helper to blow dry my hair. It was obvious the poor helper did not know what she was doing. I ended up with a flat head of hair with no body. Jessilyn who was next to me cutting the other person's hair, did not even check to see how my hair turned out and if there needed to be any additional trimming made to my hair. When I went to pay, I mentioned what happened to the front desk person, and she got very rude and asked me to pay and leave. At that point I was very disappointed and not happy with the treatment of a long-time customer and left. I know they want to make money and fit in as many customers as possible but, if there is a customer in the middle of getting a haircut and color, they should not shortchange them just to make more money and fit someone else in. Was a satisfied customer of this salon for several years until the Stylist unexpectedly charged me $70 for a "dusting" that took an entire 30 seconds. The latter was in addition to the $300 service I scheduled. Historically, not charged for a dusting ,and the fee caught me by surprise. Should have said something at the time, but did not. Paid the bill-- never to return, and the Stylist hasn't contacted me to ask why. read more

I rarely leave bad reviews, but I have to. Someone I know, goes to the salon, and she raves about it, so I was excited to give it a try. She had the opposite experience than I had, but she also had a different stylist I went In with bleached highlighted hair, complimented with my brown, it was already a step ahead for what I wanted. I came with a photo of what I wanted, which was adding some stripes in my hair of a darker and lighter violet brown. I shared the photo with my stylist and instead of doing what I wanted, she told me it was very hard to achieve this because the color would bleed. I was incredibly shocked by this response. I know if you take the time and take individual strips of hair, deposit the desired color to them, wrap them in tinfoil and keep them away from the rest of their hair, you can achieve this, but because she was a professional, I thought "OK she knows what she's doing and can achieve the results. I want" she didn't pay attention to the photo and decided to take a very lazy and easy approach. It was as if she dismissed and didn't care about the photo that I was very excited about. maybe because I'm almost 50 and she's in her 20s I was very boring and who cares what I want? I felt that dismissed. She took one color and used a gloss (not dye, a gloss), leaving it on my roots for a longer amount of time and then rinsing my hair and applying the gloss to the rest of my hair, my hair was damp and leaving me in the sink. I've been to many salons and was very confused by this process. She use she took a shortcut and glossed my hair. No creativity, no interest,. It was a shortcut. My hair came out with very red tones and was almost entirely one color.I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings and said OK. it looks good, believing her story she couldn't do what I wanted because it would bleed. I left so disappointed and $300 poorer. I was there for an hour. She cut and blow dried my hair as well. After having everyone that saw me say, "oh wow your hair is red." I decided to go back and ask for a color correction . Thinking she would pull the color and do what I had asked for originally, again showing the photos that I liked. Instead of pulling the color from my hair and starting over, she focused on the purple and put it all on my hair for a longer amount of time. Again, this was done within a very small period of time, with a gloss, where she wet my head, and I laid back in a sink with one solid color all over my head. I came out looking like a horrible purple marker. She squeezed me in at the end of the day, so it felt weird because they were cleaning up the salon and closing, and I felt like this was very rushed, again feeling like I was unheard, and that it didn't matter. Maybe I should have spoke up more at that time, but I was so frustrated at this point, and I kept thinking, "I wonder if she's ever had someone cry in her chair" and I couldn't wait to get out of it. again, feeling very weird because at this point, the salon had closed and it was just she and I and I was feeling guilty for keeping her. I look back and realize I was silly for not asking for a different stylist or not crying in the chair. I wanted to be gracious and not hurt her feelings because I don't think she knew what she was doing. I think she only knows how to do one thing ; Put one color over someone's head, which wasn't even a color, but a gloss-but thank God it was just a gloss, and I'll get to that. She got the Purple right, but I did not intend to have my entire head a dark, bright purple. I drove home and cried. I looked awful. I told her I liked it, even though I hated it, but I just wanted it out. I was so frustrated. I came home and researched how to do a color correction and I ordered the supplies. I did it myself, which took time, not 30 minutes,. I went through the process at home of pulling the purple from my hair because I looked ridiculous. Guess what? I was able to pull it from my hair, and then, I purchased professional dye, mixed it with a 10 volume developer, took the time to go through my highlights, add the color to my highlights, wrap them in tinfoil and let them develop. On my own, I was able to achieve what I went in to a professional salon to achieve. It took time, over two hours, and the stylist did not want to take the time. This was a disappointing experience, After going back twice, there was no way I was going back for a third time. I will not share the stylist name and the reason being, is because I'm a nice person and I know how it looks to get bad reviews, specifically aimed at you. The reason for my very long review is, if you go in with something very specific and your stylist ignores what you want, tells you she cannot achieve it, and just dumps one color on your head, tell them to stop and get someone with the skills to do what you asked for. I know the owner will reply and ask me to come back, but I'm not; two times is enough. read more

I have curls and sometimes its hard to find a hairdresser that understands how they operate. Im so happy I was set up with Brie for my haircut and balayage, she is such a personable and talented hairdresser, I'll definitely be coming back to see her. She really listened to what I was looking for and made me feel super confident in her abilities (she also has gorgeous curls herself which is a bonus). Elyze is fantastic. She is such a gentle spirit and brings that approach to her work. I have very thin, low density hair with natural 2c curls. She's talked me out of a lot of chemical paths to better hair health after extreme postpartum hair loss. She cuts my thin curly hair so well and really listens and applies my wishes to my cuts. It's really hard to find a stylist to put more effort into hair that is difficult and thin. She makes me feel more confident and eases my self criticism of my hair loss. I've been going to the salon with Erin as my stylist for almost a year and she is fantastic. She's friendly, she listens to what I'm wanting and delivers it every time, she's a fantastic stylist. Icouldn't be more happy with this salon. I am not a newb when it comes to hair. I am extremely picky and precise when it comes to my hair. I will start from the beginning. I arrived at the salon 10mins early. They had all of the Covid PPE precautions. Temp checks, hand sanitizer, social distancing, etc. My stylist Charina was so cheerful, patient, kind, and took her time with me. She could tell right off the bat that I was no novice in the hair world. I sat down with a 6 box progressive photo montage of myself ready in hand to show her so she can see where I started 2yr ago with my hair in the middle of my back, where I have been (pixie 1yr ago) and what I am thinking about. It also gave her a good idea about my range of comfort in length and style. She joked many times that I was "talking her language" or "a dream client" or "she couldn't believe I knew all the hair terminology". I watch far too much youtube, had way too many bad hair cuts, and I listen closely when they do mess up so I know what to ask for when I get a correction. So I know when I things aren't blended correctly, or I have shelving, unbalanced layering, bulky framing, etc. She took her time, worked with me, gave me a FIRE cut, scalp massage, and blow out. I left feeling like a million dollars. What I loved the most were the following things: (first few are stylist focused last on the salon itself) 1. From the very beginning Charina got me. She made me aware that I WAS NOT married to her and that I could change stylists there at any time and I could correct her work if I wasn't liking it. 2. Charina wasn't constantly trying to sell me on something. Herself, a product, a tool, anything... 3. Charina respected that I knew what I was talking about and that I really was a woman who did do their hair daily. I am not a wash and go girl. I am a 1m products in the bathroom girl and I USE THEM. Embarrassing..I know. 4. Charina made suggestions and told me what she liked about the 6 box of photos I showed her of me. Which I respected. Most people shy away from constructive criticism but I loved that she didn't and that made me respect her. 5. Charina was genuine. For that reason alone, I will be back. She has a new client now. ME! 6. The salon over all was clean, neat, organized. Not overly product filled or product pushed. 7. Stan of Stan Parente was walking around talking to people, that felt super neat to me! 8. The entire staff felt approachable 9. Even during Covid, it still felt homey and inviting. Which is hard to achieve. 10. The Touches that each salon station has is very cute. Go see Reyna! My cut was amazing, I love my long layers. She listened to what I wanted and was extra attentive to not cut too much length. My Brazilian blowout is also amazing. My hair is naturally a certified nest. Reyna was able to pull out almost all the frizz and give me a low maintenance glossy do. I'm so glad I can use the hour I used to spend on calming my tresses to do literally anything else. The place is clean and super on top of covid precautions and everyone was masked. I've been a Stan Parente client in Maple Valley for a few years. Zoe has been amazing, and cut and colored my hair and cut both my teen boys' hair. When she went on maternity leave, we had two really poor experiences. The first was my own cut. Color was great, but the stylist left me with uneven hair, so I had to cut the front at home on my own, even after asking her to check it. The second was my 11-year old's cut. He showed the stylist what he wanted, which she did, but then cut more upon request but knowing he had a cowlick. The result was bad. And she charged us for a men's cut, saying she didn't do kids cuts. Now we know why. I sent an email to the salon but never heard back. It's a real bummer- I loved Stan Parente, but will not be going back. No pics as I didn't want to remember either of the bad cuts. read more

Stan started in Federal Way and has since expanded, opening a salon in MV and one in Bellevue. I have been coming here for over five years and no one else has cut my hair since. The stylists in the salon have become like extended family at this point! All of the stylists really know what they're doing and Stan is the man. Every time I see him I feel like he has another show coming up that he is doing hair for (we're talking like Paris, NYC, etc) and he is always booking trips to stay up to date on the latest in the biz and keep on top of his game. His salons are consistently ranked among the best in Western Washington as seen in Evening Magazine's annual poll... in my opinion he should be #1! He has sponsored a number of charity events in the Maple Valley area and we are fortunate he opened a salon of this caliber in our little ho-dunk town (that doesn't seem so ho-dunk anymore...) They sell Bumble and Bumble products, every one of which smells amazing and works as advertised. I used to just use whatever I could find at the drug store, but he has converted me. read more

This was my first time here. I have a business event in a couple of days, and realized I had long hair that I've grown out since covid. I wasn't sure if the salon would be able to get me in on the same day, but they did. When you first walk in, you are greeted by a nice lady in the front. She will make you coffee while you sit by the lounge with a fireplace. Between having coffee and smelling the spa scented aroma, it was off to a great start. I started going to this salon and I love it. I have Erin do my hair. I like that she works late on Thursday's because it accommodates my work schedule. Erin does great in coloring my hair and covering the grey. Recently she helped my pick a new hair style. We chose an updated age appropriate hair style that is fun, great for my job in the trades and pretty for those nights out. Erin really helps me find the right products for my hair.
