I brought in a stained glass picture frame that needed a replacement 'eye' or 'new hanger wire'. For starters, call ahead an make sure Peter is there. I waited one hour while he was looking for parking. I found a spot in front of the shop with metered parking. By the time this guy Peter entered the store I had already fed the meter multiple quarters. When I showed him the piece that needed a repair, I was immediately kind of taken back that he criticized the way the picture frame hook/hanger had been made originally. I said nothing while he remarked on this for a moment, but thought to myself, this stained glass picture frame has been hanging exactly as it was intended to for 35 years in the exact same place without ever being moved. I'd have to say the way it was made originally was just fine! The hook broke, when I aggressively yanked the frame from the wall. OK, I got over his remarks simply because I wanted this fixed. Peter stated, I'll put two eyes and a wire on this and I'll call you when it's ready. He gave me a price. It all sounded good.
I got a call the repair was done. I sent a friend to pick it up. When she gave me the frame she said 'he (Peter) said he did it with one eye hook'. I thought well that's OK as long as it works. When I unwrapped the frame to re hang it, I saw that he put one eye hook on the frame way to close to the top of the frame so as not to show the hook on the wall that the eye hole hooks in to. No matter how I would move the hook on the wall, the hook was always going to show, because the eye hole to catch the hook that he put on the frame was simply to close to the top of the frame. I was really pissed at this because for starters I live way on the other end of Brooklyn, so getting to this shop is not easy for me. Then he did 1/2 of the work the work he proposed, so actually he should have charged me less, and the worst of it all is that he essentially couldn't visualized that where he placed the eye would be problematic. And then I thought, and he actually criticized the work done by the original framer as being done wrong.... I had to return to the store. Once again, I got there and the other gentleman in the store, was not even certain if Peter was coming in or not. However, that gentleman remembered me and noted quickly how annoyed I was. I showed him the problem, I told him how Peter proposed the fix originally and he agreed to fix it without Peter being there, or Peter doing it. This man fixed it while I waited which I was very happy for. read more
