Have been a member here for quite some time and my membership entitles me to a complimentary Estate Experience once per year. Abraham was our guide and started us off with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc as we started our tour of the caves. He provided a nice history of the winery and the caves and then we were escorted to a private room having a beautiful view of the vineyards and mountains, to taste the various estate Cabernet Sauvignons. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars make some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon in the valley. Abraham LED us through the various estate cabs finishing off with the 100-point CasK 23. We were with a very fun group and Abraham did a great job of guiding us through the wines. To finish off he let us taste a collaboration wine between Stag's Leap Wine Cellars and Stag's Leap Winery after they completed their negotiations over trademarks. Would recommend visiting Stags Leap Wine Cellars anytime you're in the Napa Valley area. Or even making a special trip just to visit Stag's Leap. read more

Was hands down my favorite winery until the sale in 2007 after which it lost its charm and turned into Disneyland. Understanding that Winiarski couldn't run this forever and the sale being the succession plan available to him, the results are massive tour buses and staff that read from a script and lack an understanding of the winery's role in putting Napa literally on the map. At least they ditched the expanded branding / vintages / blends and have returned to their roots. Skip the winery, buy Fay, SLV or Cask 23 off the website or from your local wine store - and visit elsewhere. read more

This is a very beautiful elevated winery. Their tasting room has floor to ceiling windows with views of the Fay & S.L.V. Vineyards. Their tastings start at $95 for 4 current release wines. I visited during their Napa Neighbors complimentary tasting for California residents. I very much appreciated being able to experience this winery during their promotion. I will note there is no welcome splash or offer to revisit any of the wines tasted. The pours were extremely small, so finished the tasting significantly under the time allotted for the reservation. I love stag leap area cab wine - they are rich and structured. I also appreciate an estate / single vineyard bottling. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and gave us a great recommendation for lunch in the area. Amazing Cabernet Sauvignon- we left with a bottle. read more

This was our first wine tasting after a morning hike. The wines we tasted were all delicious. I'm not a white wine type but I even enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed the SLV. Pricy but it was good. Will have to wait for a special occasion to pop that bottle. The view was also gorgeous. They had huge windows so we were able to enjoy our flight and admire the view. read more

We did the signature tasting here during the Napa Neighbor promotion in January and overall it was a really nice experience. The property is absolutely gorgeous, and we were seated with an amazing view overlooking the vineyard. The wines were really good, but the pours were very small. Because of that, the tasting ended up being much shorter than expected about 40 minutes instead of the 75 listed. It didn't feel rushed, there just wasn't much wine. They also mentioned the price of the tasting a few times, which felt a little unnecessary for an upscale winery. Still, it's a beautiful property with solid wines and worth a visit. read more

We are glad we chose Stag's Leap as one of the 4 wineries we visited during our Napa area stay. We two did the Estate Wine Tasting & Cave Tour. Very good, and we had a server, Julia, for just us two. The Cave Tour was interesting, in particular the pendulum installed in the cellars. The wines we tasted were excellent, and the cheese, sausage, dried fruit, and pickles that accompanied them were savory. Julia was attentive, and we enjoyed learning the history of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars and its vineyards from her. The experience started with a Cave tour with a glass of wine, and then a sit-down tasting in a room with a nice view of vineyards; in the room were several other groups of varying sizes, most had their own server. read more

If you enjoy red Cabernet Sauvignon wines, this is a great stop! Super neat to do the Estate Experience Wine Tasting and get to learn about the history of this winery in relation to the Judgment of Paris in 1976. The Cave dinner hall can be rented out for events and they let you walk through the cellar of lined wine barrels. Our wine guide provided excellent and personable customer service! This is a pricier vineyard stop in Napa and requires an advance reservation, however we thought it was worth it. read more

Four great years of the Napa friends trip. Lots of wineries to choose from and this one is my top 3 to visit. I enjoyed the scenery when we set food on the vineyard grounds all the way to our private room with a nice view of the winery. This Stag's Leap was the ultimate winery experience in taste of the wine lineup, the story of how this establishment started, and the many years and details they've dedicated themselves to the art of wine making. Of course my friends and I were one of the groups that went to the other Stags' Leap first and then made our way here. This winery by far was the best and all the wine selections given to us impressed us where several of us bought orders to gift our loved ones for the holidays. My mother and I came to Napa on a bucket list trip. This was our first stop of the trip, and it did not disappoint. We had a tasting with "Mo", who absolutely set the tone for the entire rest of the week. He taught us so much and shared the best wines we had and have ever tasted. Their Cabernet's are created with so much detail and science it is truly astounding. If you are a Cab lover, you HAVE to come here. We felt like from the moment we walked in the door we were treated like we were special and important. We were seated on a nice little couch and encouraged to get comfortable and relax. Such a wonderful experience. Mostly, we will never forget Mo. He truly made our whole trip. We want him to know how much we appreciate him. She had such a warm and friendly personality and went very in-depth about the history of Stag's Leap, which made the experience even more enjoyable. We were lucky to get a fantastic seat by the window overlooking the vineyard. The views were beautiful, and the seating was super comfy, which added to the relaxing vibe. We tried four wines: three Cabs and one Chardonnay. All of them were absolutely amazing, and it's clear why Stag's Leap has such a great reputation. The best wine and winery imaginable if you are a fan of cabernet. Stunningly beautiful setting. No room for another human on the 3:00 tour but not to worry. We were offered a fantastic wine to sample and, inevitably, we bought a bottle to accompany our Niku steak that we'll shop for later on in the week. This place used to be one of my favorite spots to visit in Napa but sadly I will not be returning. My last two visits were pretty awful (June 2023 and June 2022) and it has become clear to me that they have sold out and commercialized. This visit we did the Cellarius Kitchen Experience with a party of 4. Another couple friend joined last minute and in making us a table of 6, they added an automatic 20% gratuity on top of the already steep Cellarius Kitchen experience ($295pp). What's worse is that we were all seated in the same room as everyone else joining the tasting served by the same server so it's not like he had to do any more than had we sat separately. They overcharged us $360 not accounting for the fact only 4 of the 6 people in our party was doing the full tasting (2 were drinking and only participating in the food which was $150pp). Going to have to reach out to see if they can fix it. As for the wine and food pairing, I didn't love any of the wines this visit or last year. The food pairing came with four courses - halibut, a weird beet/berry "soup," a lobster "cappuccino," and a buckwheat waffle with duck confit. We enjoyed the halibut, the lobster and duck were ok, but the beet/berry "soup" was so weird and off putting that most of us couldn't have more than a few sips. I think the chef may have tried too hard to be innovative. As for the tour, it was somewhat cool to go through the cave and see the breathtaking views outside but overall, I found it went too long. I found the commentary a little boring and our wine guide not particularly knowledgeable (honestly most of our group found him pretty annoying). It was also one guide for a large group of maybe 20 people - for $300pp, I would hope for something a little more intimate and private. Sadly will not be returning and I would not recommend to others. read more

Storied winery with a great view from the tasting room. Reservation is required for tasting. Tasting now costs close to $100. The staff are great. They are personable, knowledgeable, and friendly. You won't feel pushed to buy wines. Take a point off because of the recent changes in the wine club experience. --- It's always a great experience visiting the winery, whether it's tasting great California-style 100% Cabs while looking out to the vineyard and mountains or exploring the wine cave on a guided ~15-minute tour. The staff are friendly but not overbearing. They usually provide efficient explanations of the terroir, the story, and the wine but will gladly offer much more when you ask questions. You don't feel rushed (but recently, I've felt a more strict time limit), and you don't feel pressured to purchase wine or join the membership. It's a great way to spend an hour or two at the winery that put the California wine on the world stage 50 years ago in your Napa itinerary. The tasting cost has increased substantially over the years to almost $100 per person now. The estate wines now cost more than $200 a bottle. Is it worth it? Yes, if you are visiting Napa for the first time. After that, it really depends on your lifestyle and what you are looking for in wines. I've been visiting Stag's Leap Wine Cellars for more than 10 years now. There was a time before the current tasting room was built, and the tasting was standing only. The signature Fay, SLV, and Cask 23 Cabernet Sauvignon are still great, but the experience has changed over the years, especially recently with the new owner. They no longer welcome you with a pour of the Sauvignon Blanc while you wait for your table, and they don't pour as many bonus wines as they used to. I've been a wine club member for ~7 years now. I've seen the best of times when Cask 23 was included in the tasting, when they offered free lake-side picnics for members, and when you got to try several member-only wines. I am glad the new owner kept the unlimited complimentary wine tastings for members, but I do wish more effort could be made to keep their loyal members. read more

This is one of the finest wineries I visited while in Napa this month. I visited 14 wineries and this was my number 1 favorite for everything from the best wine, the best hosts and the most beautiful layout. I was so busy enjoying wines that I really only snapped a few photos- my fault as the winery is superb! Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is the winery that won the 1976 Judgement of Paris Cabernet Sauvignon Competition and this winery was founded in 1970 and is a Napa so called first growth estate. The Stag's Leap District is established as an American Viticultural area. One of my favorite wines that they produce is Artemis. Try it or any of the wines here and you will be impressed! I recommend this winery over every vineyard I visited. read more

Made a reservation for a tasting here through tock and had such a great time. It wasn't super crowded when we were there (Sunday around 1230pm) and the tasting room was spacious but intimate. We really enjoyed the Chardonnay that they started us with on the tasting. We tried the fay, the slv and the cask. We even got an extra pour of heart of the fay which we really loved and ended up getting two bottles of. They comp your tasting ($75) if you spend $200, but we ended up just going for the wine club instead which worked out better in terms of value and gave us a reason to come back and possibly bring friends. This was the most expensive of the tours/tastings that we did (we did the celestial tour experience) but it was by far our favorite of our trip. SLWC had the best overall wine that we tasted, but they specialize in Cabernet Sauvignon. We love cabs but if you want variety then you may want to go elsewhere. Took the lady here for her first time in Napa and she absolutely had a blast! We made reservations online to do wine tasting and we opted for the tasting without the tour since we already did one and were walking around all day. The vineyard was nice to look at while enjoying our delicious wine. The outdoor area where you get to sit down and have your wine is relatively spacious and is super relaxing. We got to try some of my favorites which were the cab and chard. The lady really loved the reds and we had to take some home. If you buy a certain amount of wines they waive the tasting fee which I think is pretty cool but you will spend a few hundred bucks. Our sommelier was knowledgeable about the products and was schooling us on the rich history of stag leaps. Extra shot out to him for also giving us a nice pour! read more

We were booked for the 10:00 am tour and tasting and unfortunately, we missed our scheduled time. However, the team was very accommodating and still were able to provide us with the tasting experience for which we were extremely grateful for. Justin took care of us for the tasting, and he was wonderful. I genuinely feel like he was happy we were there, which is unmatched service. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. The estate tasting was the Arcadia Chardonnay followed by three cabs - the Fay, SLV, and Hillside. After hearing our thoughts on each of the estate wines, Justin poured the Armillary as well for us to try which we both loved. I highly suggest this tour, it's truly incredible to see the caves, learn the history of Stag's Leap and it's founder, learn about the area, and ultimately enjoy some of their best wines! Mark, our wine educator was incredible and very informative. We enjoyed everything he had to tell us, and you can tell he's enthusiastic about wine. He did such a great job, that we ended up joining as members. The grounds and caves are beautiful! We just had the most amazing experience here celebrating a friend's big 40th birthday! (Light and day difference from the "experience" we had the day before at Vineyard 29). We reserved the Stag's Leap Cellarius Kitchen Experience ($175/pp). It's a wine with luncheon pairing with Chef Travis Westrope. The experience is a group experience so it's important to arrive on time. We were 10 minutes late so missed the beginning where they do a 15-20 minute walking tour around the winery. Once the tour finished, we all got seated in an intimate dining room. Our host Victor poured the first wine and explained the flavors, notes, and concept behind the wine. Shared how the first course will bring out the flavors or change the taste of the wine. Then he came back around and poured more! So you'll get multiple pours of every wine while you enjoy your courses. They're very accommodating to food allergies/sensitivities too and gave me a gluten-free version of all their meals. I overheard that someone else in our group didn't eat bacon so they gave her a bacon-free course. Both Victor and Chef Travis were warm, engaging, and clearly passionate about their craft. It was such a warm, hospital experience. We learned so much about their wines and could really taste how each course brought out different notes in the wines. Even though each group is seated at their own table, by the end we were all laughing and having a great ol' time with one another. The winery itself is breathtakingly beautiful too, and the tasting room is modern and gorgeous with floor to ceiling windows and a full view of the lush vines outside. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars was introduced to us several years ago from my BF's friend who got us an Artemis bottle as a house warming gift. We liked it so much that we made sure to go to their winery during our first Napa visit back in 2018. Before even visiting the winery, we ended up signing up for a membership. We knew we would be big fans of their wines and I haven't seen a membership as good as theirs! First visit was awesome, but had a hiccup when we weren't told we couldn't book a tour and an estate tasting the same day. Either way, Danielle contacted me and made sure we were taken care of during our next visit, which they did! The most recent visit was last month during Thanksgiving weekend (11/28/2020). Theee best day of my life! My BF (now fiance) worked with Stag's Leap Wine Cellars (Leilani and Danielle) for months to surprise me with a proposal! The day was perfect and I cannot be thankful enough for what Stag's did that day and the next day. We always make sure to start our first winery here and have our last winery back at Stag's before ending our vacation. Coming back the very next day, every staff congratulated us. We were surprised that they all knew, next thing we know there's a personalized menu! The weekend was just so special! Every visit is always wonderful. Everyone here, from Josiah (Jojo), Steve, Danielle, Ed and every staff we bump into are just so down to earth, chill, personable and make our visit fun every single time. My personal favorites still are 2010 Cask 23, 2013 Chase creek (Yea, ended up leaving with two bottles before) and 2014 Chase Creek. Sometimes I like the SLV and sometimes I like the Fay more. Overall, we love their cabs! :) Definitely recommend Stag's Leap Wine Cellars (Don't confuse them with Stags' Leap Winery - they are completely two different wineries!!) I am in the wine business and go through Napa often on my way to Healdsburg. This time around I visited Stag's Leap Wine Cellars where I had not been in many years and had the best experience. Not only were the wines phenomenal (as they always are) but the experience was top notch as well. Even though they are selling $200+ bottles of wine (don't worry you can find less expensive ones there too - I recommend Artemis which is around $75) it was not stuffy at all. The overall vibe was laid back and they let the wines do the talking. Josian (Jo Jo) was an awesome host. He was fun, knowledgeable and dedicated. Not pushy at all... The Fay Vineyard is always my favorite but of course the Cask 23 is stunning as always. JUDGEMENT OF PARIS continues! Appointments are recommended but not necessary. read more
