I have been going to Stacks in Redwood City regularly for 6 months. I always sit in one of the small booths to the right of the register. Gerardo has been my server for all of these visits. He is a delightful presence in the morning--so helpful and kind. He remembers all my preferences and is attentive at service. He is a real asset to the restaurant. The food itself is very good--a lot of choices of savory and sweet items for breakfast, and they serve sandwiches and burgers all day, which is great when you want something different. I want to start by saying the servers were kind, attentive, and provided great customer service. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about management. This was our THIRD time coming back after previously bringing up concerns about dirty dishes, plates, and cups. We genuinely hoped the issue had been addressed after our first and second experiences. Sadly, we were disappointed to find the same problem happening again. The food itself was decent, but it is hard to enjoy a meal when you are served on plates and with cups that are visibly filthy. In a time when people are increasingly aware of hygiene, food safety, and the spread of illness, the absolute minimum a restaurant should provide is clean dishes, clean silverware, and a sanitary dining environment. When we spoke with Manager Natalie, her response was not what we expected from someone responsible for customer experience and restaurant standards. Instead of taking initiative, offering alternatives, or showing genuine concern, the response felt dismissive and sarcastic. We were simply told she was sorry to hear the dishes were dirty -- but there was no effort to actually make the situation right. A restaurant can make mistakes, but what matters is how management responds. After giving this place multiple chances to improve, it is clear that cleanliness does not seem to be a priority. We will not be returning. Customers should not have to wonder whether the plate, cup, or silverware in front of them is actually clean before eating their meal. We stopped by this place for breakfast today, and I was surprised by how delicious it was! It definitely is a little unassuming, and the building and seating area are a bit dated. The staff were very friendly, and the menu was extensive. We decided on a full stack of buttermilk pancakes, a waffle, two sides of the potatoes with cheese, and the eggs Benedict. While the presentation was just average, the food tasted amazing! The pancakes might be some of the best I've ever had: so fluffy and light, yet still incredibly flavorful. Definitely add cheese to the potatoes, it was a game changer! The cheese was broiled, and both the cheese and the potatoes were crispy and flavorful. Stacks food menu is large you will definitely have to make return visits . Our food was served hot and prepared fast and delicious. Portions are large my peeps so bring your appetite. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed 3 to 4 times before being seated so cool. Our waitress was super nice and accommodating. I came here on a dreary rainy day with a Groupon to use, and it was pretty full for a random weekday lunch. They have their own mini parking lot in the back, which was very convenient for these random Redwood City roads. Stacks is a bay area-based brunch restaurant with several locations around the bay, and open 7 days a week! Because of the egg crisis, there's a surcharge for menu items containing eggs. - Chicken Fried Steak The chicken fried steak patty was crusty and a little dry. Even with the house gravy that consisted of ground pork sausage and mushrooms (a rather thick and gloppy consistency), it needed more moisture. Taste-wise, it was fine. I do wish the gravy was more wet, and that it came with more scallions. It comes with potatoes, your choice of bread, and two eggs done in your preferred style. The way they cooked the sunny side up eggs was really odd; it looked more oven-baked than fried on a pan, and it was devoid of seasoning. The toast thankfully came toasted and buttered up well. I also liked the chopped up crispy potatoes that were like a hybrid of hash browns and house potatoes. - Seafood Benedict I wanted a benedict because I loved the way Stacks composes those plates - there's a ceramic skillet with the benedict, the potatoes, and a cup of fruit. The seafood benedict comes with crab meat, bay shrimp, baby spinach, swiss cheese, tomatoes, scallions, and bearnaise sauce oozing throughout the benedict. This made the benedict ultra creamy and eggy. The egg was delightfully runny. The seafood amount was ample, but I wasn't too fond of it because of a strong ocean taste. Yeah, the crab was real crab meat, but there was something about it that just made it taste more like ocean than the subtle sweetness of typical fresh crab. The shrimp was also tiny. I appreciated how there was more seafood than spinach in this mixture. The fruit cup it comes with is very small! I would recommend getting a different benedict flavor. It was an interesting experience and a good deal with the Groupon, as I don't typically enjoy brunch places. The plates are pretty big and filling, they have good options for plant based eaters, and it's a cozy place for some good old American brunch. I had half of my benedict plate as leftovers! With a lot of brunch competition in the bay area, it's hard to say whether something will bring me back here again especially with these prices (about $20 per plate). read more

They didn't write down the order correctly or there was some confusion because the burger came with dairy cheese instead. We came during the week at around 12:30 and there were a good number of people here, but we didn't have to wait and the parking lot still had spaces left. I said "hello" to the Reuben Sandwich (always a go-to when I see it on any menu). It was served on lightly toasted marble rye, with sweet potato fries, salad, and fruit. It was a huge dish. The bread, however, wasn't toasted enough so didn't stand up too well to the rest of the ingredients. I think they must have run out of corned beef, because I had very little in my sandwich. It was thin on filling. Sweet potato fries were just OK. Needed a sprinkle of salt when they came out of the fryer. My Mom ordered the fruit crepe. She loved it. It was bursting with fresh fruit and was topped with a bit of yogurt. It was served with hash brown potatoes that were tasty, but anemic - they were in desperate need of some more "alone-time" with the grill. We also ordered a cup of the tomato basil soup. It was creamy and delicious - the highlight of the meal. Overall, service here was good, crepe and soup were great but Reuben needed some attention. Would I go here again for lunch? Yes, sure, but I would try something else on the menu. The best "Chicken and Waffle!" My niece and I met up for brunch last week, and since she was coming from San Jose and I from Marin, we decided to have a meal at Stacks in Burligame. My niece took the train and got off at the train station across Stacks. It was our first time to try Stacks. I ordered "Chicken and Waffle" and my niece had the "Carnitas Crepes." We were both very, very satisfied with our meals! My Chicken and Waffle was truly delicious! Perfect waffle and the tastiest fried chicken! All that being said, I have a confession to make. Today, I drove to Stacks in Burlingame again, to satisfy my craving for their Chicken and Waffle. Quite a drive but definitely worth it! I had to do a Memorial Lunch for 25 people over this last weekend and I had heard great things about this restaurant/chain from some of the locals who were attending. I was flying in from out of town and made arrangements with Lawton, one of the owners, who was able to accommodate our large party in a private dining area. The Lunch, Food, Ambiance, Service and Price were phenomenal! They took the stress out what was a highly emotional day. I would absolutely go to this restaurant as a regular if I lived in the area.
