    Gouda Grits
    Chris W.

This is a substancial breakfast I ordered the Gouda grits. They were a little drier than I would have liked but the flavor was still impeccable. The spinach sautéed in garlic along with the blistered tomatoes elevated the breakfast meal. But the icing on top was the sweet and spicy bacon. My girlfriend indulged in the breakfast sandwich 2.0 . Which was delicious. This place did have a good solid breakfast especially if you are in the area. Also the coffee cake was good. It had a decent blueberry flavor but it was more on the subtle side. Overall it was more because of the convience of the location. Still a good place to eat once and a while

Great food that tastes wonderful with fresh ingredients and special recipes that make the most of high quality ingredients. Been going to Hobees many years. Try the burgers (beef, beyond, chicken) you can't go wrong! The bowls with hash browns OR quinoa are fantastic. Salads- filling, fresh, so many choices... AND loads of breakfast items - eggs, burritos, coffee cake! Mmmmm This restaurant has been going strong for decades, great food, service, variety, several locations.

This is such a great place to stop and get brunch. In all the years that I have been coming to the San Francisco area, the menu remains consistently awesome. There used to be more locations but COVID did some of them in. This one is just south of SFO and makes a great place to stop and get lunch after a morning flight in from DTW. Hobee's tea is such an experience. I have had it both hot and cold though I prefer it cold. Everytime we go, our wait person keeps our drinks full. During my last 2 visits (in September 2019 and this past Thursday (June 19, 2025)), I was able to get a to-go cup of ice tea as I left. Their coffee is quite good. It comes out at the right temperature. Given the amount of times that I have been, I have picked my favorite/go-to meal for the one time I come...aka the DeAnza Browns Bowl. It such a great dish with a well balanced depth fo flavors. I typically get it with an over medium egg on the side. Prior to going gluten free, getting the blueberry coffee cake was a must. If and when this dish ever goes gluten free, I would/will be all over that. The restaurant had decent sound handling so it doesn't get to noisy or at least when we have been there. This is a must visit when I'm in the Bay area.

Went here several times over the 5yrs when we're in the area. It sort of hit or miss for us, since it was great at the beginning...great service, great foods, great vibe to whatever service, still great foods, and just cool vibe. This time, it's just okey overall. Plenty of parking and good location since it nearby or next to several hotels & motels. We got seated right away, and easy order with a nice waiter since we knew what we wanted, since then he only stoped by to drop off the foods and then gave us the check. No check in between. The place is big layout and simple decor. It reminds me of diner setting like. The foods are hot and good and very tasty, especially the blueberry coffee cake (we alway order this everytime we're here). Price wise, it's high but worth it - for us, it Is a good place for breakfast and will continue stop by whenever we're in the area so sure.

I was craving some coffee cake so that was 90% of why I decided to come here. The service here is on point like a fancy restaurant. They seem to know their regulars and they are super at their service by asking if we wanted lemon for our water, letting me try their famous orange tea (not my thing but thanks for the sample where I found out it's not my type of tea), and got boxes for us asap. No frills breakfast place. Decent bacon. Decent eggs, and great coffee cake. Plenty of parking, kind of empty vibe. I felt like I was at like an upscale work cafeteria.

We had stayed next door to this restaurant and decided to give it a try for breakfast. Wow was it amazing, the food was just impeccable! their crumb cake or coffee cake, whatever they call it, is divine!service is beyond excellent! I wish they had side dishes so I could've ordered for my service dog, but he ended up getting a children's meal, so he was happy. but other than that, I highly recommend this place. Everybody needs to go. It seems to be very world renowned so it says and I can see why.

So glad to have found Hobee's! always plenty of parking and seating. I have celiac and they have a gluten free menu if you ask for it. Not many choices, but very happy there's any! I get the ham and eggs breakfast with corn tortillas. I wish they were open for dinner too!

Considering it was only in NorCal, I had to try this place when I was in the area. It gets busy and wait times can add up. I would say (not sponsored) it's better than a Denny's or a Norms. Ordered a simple breakfast item ( eggs, tots, toast, and pancakes) it took a while to arrive but it was made perfectly. Eggs were nice, tots have the perfect amount of crisp and bread the perfect amount of crunch. Pancakes were not too much batter like some other places. I can't really write a detailed review because I have only been here once and ordered a simple item, but I would recommend this to a friend if they ever visit NorCal. 4/5 because my order was simple but it cost more than I expected.

This yelp page DID NOT NEED any more pics of the infamous blueberry coffee cake, as there are already THOUSANDS... but hey ‍

Twas next to our hotel, and we'd heard LEGENDS of its blueberry coffee cake, covered in thicc butter. It did not disappoint, on that level. Service was EXCELLENT. So sweet and outgoing. Very attentive. But for such an old school place, it sure feels like an empty banquet hall someone is renting out for your breakfast. Not very cozy, or lived-in. Eggs needed to Be hotter, And sausage needed to be crispier-- but hey! It's the ol school San Carlo experience.

Salmon Avocado "Toast" ! A meal!

For you Silicon Valley OGs, who might remember those pre-worldwide web days, when the Steves (Jobs and Woz) were just starting, and people worked at Fairchild Semiconductor, and shag rugs and avocado colored kitchen major appliances decor was in, when the very first emoji, "smiley face", was 10-15 years old (designed in '63), and the first major health craze hit America (running, tofu, organics), a few years after Cigarettes were banned from advertising on TV, a couple of healthy local restaurant chains existed: Good Earth, and Hobees. Hobees started in Mountain View in the 70's, and ultimately expanded to about 5-6 locations in Silicon Valley, including San Jose, Palo Alto, Cupertino, Los Gatos, and the only one in San Mateo county, this one in Belmont/Redwood Shores, back when Marineworld was located here, not in Vallejo (ergo the Marineworld or Marine Parkway street name around here). This restaurant is attached to a large Motel 6, and they are only open from morning to 2, breakfast and lunch. The decor still has remnants of 70's decor, wood paneling, but no hanging Ferns like the old Henry Africa's bar in SF, or avocado green kitchen appliances. Speaking of Avocado, I ordered a brekkie special, Salmon Avocado Toast, tea and oj. What came was a full meal! 2 pieces of salmon draped over a bed of arugula, cherry tomatoes, on a thick slice of chibatta type bread, and sprinkled atop with feta cheese and a side of half an avocado! Yum yum! Healthy and filling! No Good Earth Tea, but you can still order that online. Hobees was famous for its good service, good food and blueberry coffee cake. Maybe you Millennials and Gen-Zers can check it out, and understand what your parents or grandparents were reminiscing about, or why they can't text in a full range of emoji, only a Smiley Face! (Is the plural of Emoji, Emojis?)

Bunch date to catch up with some friends and we came across this classic diner. Starting with the wonderful service, our waiter was great he was patient and didn't forget a thing. Grand finale the food, most of the food came out all together some items look a little longer than usual. Everything hit the spot for our breakfast cravings, leaving all plates empty. Give this place a shot if in the area.

Huge menu with lots of options, there's something here for every one; breakfasts, sandwiches, smoothies, omelets, scrambles, Benedict's, salads, pasta, burgers. The Salmon Hash is really good. The potatoes are buttery, garlic roasted with artichoke hearts and small chunks of salmon, with your choice of eggs on top. Casual family restaurant, good stop for relaxed weekend brunch.

Unfortunately, the service was disappointing. After we were seated, no one came back to take our order or even offer water for about 15-20 minutes. When I eventually gave the server feedback about the long wait, the response came across as somewhat rude and dismissive rather than apologetic. The food itself was average--nothing particularly memorable--and one of the items we ordered was completely missed. Overall, the place has a good setting and potential, but the service, food quality and attention to customers need significant improvement. For a breakfast/brunch restaurant in a great location, I would expect much better hospitality and order accuracy.

Our food was staggered over a 15 min period also very expected at this type of brunch place. The problem came when the lady would brought the last food item the GF item and she said hey are we missing anything and I said yes my cortado and friend who ordered 10 min before we did so half and hour ago said she never got her hot coco. She was Super polite and brought them pretty quickly . We said thanks for finding them for us and she lectured us on how busy they are etc etc and were like WHOA THERE we did not complain although my friend could have as he drink came after she had eaten and 30 min after she ordered and yet we never complained. My complaint is with this staff members attitude, and I "assume" it came from dealing with folks expecting the food or drinks to all come out at same time and thats not how these types of places work. WE GET THAT and again it would have been a 5 had we not been lectured after thanking her for hunting down our drinks ;-) Will I be back SURE the food was great

I completely understand that there was a wait since it was a busy day--we waited about 25 minutes, which seemed reasonable. What disappointed me was what happened next. Another family walked in after us, and it appeared they knew one of the employees. She greeted them by saying, "Véngase, consuegro, los voy a sentar arriba," and they were seated immediately while we continued waiting another 15-20 minutes before finally being seated. Once we sat down, it took another 15 minutes before anyone came to take our order. Our food arrived, and I asked for a coffee. Unfortunately, no one checked on our table afterward. The server was constantly running up and down the stairs, and although I tried several times to get her attention because I wanted a refill, I never had the chance. We eventually had to leave without it. The food was okay, but the service made us feel overlooked. I don't mind waiting when a restaurant is busy, but I do expect customers to be treated fairly, regardless of whether they know someone who works there.

By day, it's warm, welcoming, and family-friendly. You'll see families enjoying dinner, friends catching up over drinks, and locals stopping in for great food and hospitality. But once Friday night hits, the entire atmosphere transforms. The lights dim, the music turns up, the dance floor fills, and the energy becomes something you'd expect to find in a much bigger city. Friday nights bring a fun mix of crowds; from younger groups looking for DJs, dancing, cocktails, and nightlife energy, to older guests enjoying the live music, atmosphere, and social vibe. Honestly, I'm a little older myself and still absolutely love the younger, high-energy scene here. It's fun, welcoming, and never feels out of place no matter your age. That's what makes this place so unique. Everyone fits in and everyone has a great time. Then Saturdays bring a completely different experience with live artists and an incredible variety of music. One weekend you'll hear young country performers getting the crowd singing along, and the next you'll find authentic Irish fiddlers creating that classic pub atmosphere everyone loves. That variety is what keeps people coming back..every weekend offers something different and memorable. The food is outstanding, the beer and cocktail selection is excellent, and the hospitality is second to none. I finally had the chance to meet Molly, the owner, and it's easy to see why this place has built such a loyal following. Her passion for creating a place where everyone feels welcome shows in every detail. From the amazing service to the live entertainment and unforgettable atmosphere, this isn't just another local pub. It's become a destination spot and one of the true nightlife gems in San Carlos. Highly recommend checking it out, especially on the weekends.
