We started out on the right foot with Sta-built. They came door to door soliciting business at a time that we'd already been contemplating redoing our driveway and front porch. And they offered "free" design services with a 3D rendering as part of their sales pitch, which helped sell us on their proposed plan. Everything started falling apart after we signed their initial proposal. We requested a few small changes from their initial design, but almost immediately after signing the proposal it seemed like we became low priority. It was increasingly difficult to get in touch with our designer Todd who had just solicited our business and took our deposit. Even more problematic, throughout the entire design process Todd was insistent that we shouldn't pursue permits for the project. We knew a sidewalk was slated to be added to our street at some point and suggested permitting to prevent any future issues with the city. He said that it would be simpler and more time efficient to apply for the permits after the project was completed so we should let Sta-built continue with the work at their earliest opportunity. He gave no regard to our concerns related the sidewalk nor the fact that a permit after the fact was four times more expensive than an advance permit. We were on his schedule and it became quite obvious we were inconveniencing him with the permitting request. After I pushed back and requested they pursue advance permits, it took only an initial search of the county GIS by their permitting person to show a city right of way for approximately 1/3 of our 75 ft driveway. Their permitting person told us pavers were a non-starter for that portion of the driveway so it was not even worth submitting a permit application. She indicated the proposal would have to change to remove the pavers in the right of way, making our driveway mixed material with pavers and either concrete or asphalt. She said she would reach out to Todd. Yet, after that discovery, we heard nothing from Sta-built for several weeks. Due to this right of way discovery and the compounding lack of communication, I finally reached out to Todd and indicated we were not interested in moving forward. Todd responded to state that the mixed material design change was "not unusual" and that he was having his graphic designer update the design with this change. Then came more radio silence for 5 weeks, at which time the updated design was provided. Review of that design confirmed we were not interested in moving forward with the project and I reiterated the same to Todd. Upon this (second) cancellation, Sta-built decided the "excessive" work they'd put into our project to date had consumed the almost $5000 deposit we had paid them. To confirm, no permits had been applied for, no materials ordered, and almost all of their design work had been done promotionally as part of their sales pitch or after we had communicated an intent to cancel to try to keep us on board. When I pointed this out to them, they, of course, failed to respond. Unless you are looking for a company that will rush you through design of a highly expensive project, encourage you to avoid permits to your detriment, and drop the ball on communication at every turn, I suggest avoiding this company. I would say this project should be one of the most difficult works in the south hill Eugene area, because the work is in a downhill site without direct access to transport those heavy concrete rocks, soils... materials. I was disappointed with my experience with Sta-Built Construction. The prices they charge are very high when compared to national averages. Once I submitted a request on their website, I received several emails and text messages from them. I responded in kind by providing the same details of my project I submitted to them in their inquiry form, which was very straightforward: approximately 720 square feet of thin paver overlay on existing concrete. Ranging from a basic installation to the very best, the average cost in my area ranges $6.00 - $8.30 a square foot (basic to best). What was their price? $28.00 per square foot! The response I received when I challenged the figure was that there was a misunderstanding about the scope of services they provide. I wasn't confused in the least about my request; it was inferred that it was my misunderstanding. Frankly, had they simply responded by stating they don't do this type of thin paver overlay installation, I would have been fine with that response. For me, personally, it wasn't the best experience. No job is too small! We have a very small front yard area where we wanted to install pavers. Chris came to our home and helped us work out a design to suit our needs. Really loved working with Sta-Built. They designed and laid pavers for a patio project at our house. Brent showed up for consultation and used an iPad to map the area and come up with a technical design on the spot. He had good suggestions on how to best utilize the area, and provided a competitive bid. Other companies were scheduling for months later, but Sta-Built said they could start within a few weeks. Bios of, and meeting the management team of Peter, Leland, and Ben, were all positive - these are go-to entrepreneurs, dedicated to quality, and to serving the customer honestly. After project's end, I was sent the final bill, but asked that they retrieve the left-over pavers before I pay it - no questions asked, they got it, and prioritized getting the product picked up. Hired them out for about 500 sq ft of patio/walkway. Based on other reviews here, your results are entirely crew dependent. If you are not a priority job, or you get unlucky.. yeah, you'll be writing a 2 star review like me. Overall - very amateur job. Which makes sense because this seemed to be staffed by amateurs without specific experience building patios - just Crews With Tools that you would find at local big box stores hoping for work. Pros: -The job is done? I think. They have left a lot here in terms of leftover materials (including an unlocked port-a-potty which is drawing a VERY fun crowd) and my manager has ghosted me in terms of warranty information and final walk through scheduling. But there's a serviceable patio built. And I am glad that it's finally finished. -They were (relatively) cheap. This should have been a bigger red flag for me, but they came in 15% lower on bid than others. So I got what I paid for. Cons (Technical Complaints): -The pavers were laid unevenly and do not line up well. Looks very amateurish. -The gaps between pavers vary from tight nearly 1/16" to large 5/16th" gaps. Again, looks amateurish. -A drainpipe was previously laid in the yard that the patio was being built over. This was discussed with the designer and manager prior to starting. However, this was not addressed during the build - the workers cut pavers around it, and then covered the drain pipe up with sand hoping to make it less obvious, I guess? This feels like a safety hazard, so I guess I'll be figuring out how to chisel some pavers and get a grate over this. -The workers did not properly measure the height that they needed to build and dig to - there is non-code compliant 8.5" drop from my backdoor to the new patio. This also feels like a safety hazard and I'm sure I'll need to figure out building a step or landing before I ever go to sell this house. Fun! -The workers did not properly measure the height that they needed to build and dig to - the gate to the backyard was hitting the pavers that they were laying down and they noticed this too late. Rather than consult me, they simply took a saw and freestyle chopped off a few inches of the bottom of my gate, again hoping that it wouldn't be noticed? This actually infuriates me. I do not think they were going to re-do the whole patio over this mistake, but to not even point it out and make a decision to saw down my property is.. really something. -Play sand was used for the install rather than polymeric sand; all pamphlets of the company mention poly sand and that is the most common way to build and set these. Ants are already tunneling through that soft, unset play sand. This also REALLY annoys me. Who uses play sand?! Why wasn't I asked about this, especially when their marketing material talks about poly sand. Cons (General Complaints): -Have to chase these people down for everything. The designer, Sean Hamilton, arrived on time and was overall great.The manager, Cole Clark, seems to be actively avoiding the project. I will charitably say that he has been involved for 15 minutes total over 3 visits, and I have given up on trying to contact him - easier to have the office manager reach out at this point. Cole gave a range of times for the project to start - and blew through even the charitable week range that he gave himself. The last time I've seen anyone Cole told me I would see warranty information that night and we would be scheduling a final walk through. A week has gone by with total radio silence. I am not interested in having to spend time to figure out how to get a port-a-potty removed, but I guess they are not interested in sending an invoice and getting paid? -The crew have left my place a wreck. Cleaning up the snack wrappers and garbage that they would leave around each day was annoying - having them destroy the front and back yard by dragging their wheelbarrows through and then dumping sand and gravel anywhere they turned into mud is pretty infuriating. read more

Imagine you're sitting at Costco waiting to get gas, you're up next. So the person who was pumping his gas finished and got into his car. And then sat there on the phone for the next 15 minutes. I tapped my horn a few times, and other patrons looked at me like something was wrong with me. One attendant gave him hard looks but kept on walking. The other attendant finally got tired of me tapping my horn and finally knocked on his window and signaled for him to move to the parking lot to take his call. And on the outside of his car were the decals of his company "Sta-bil Construction". I have witnessed lots of different ways that people can be rude these days but this rates up there. I would never even consider doing business with someone who could be so thoughtless and inconsiderate. 1 star is way too generous. read more

First, let me say that I was at the Tacoma Home Show when I first decided to contract with Sta-Built. Since my house is in Seattle, and their office is in Olympia, they were hesitant to take the job since it was quite a distance from their regular area. That being said, Sta-Built agreed to take on the work since my house is on the South end of Seattle and they would not have to fight downtown Seattle traffic. Brian was the estimator and he gave me a feeling that he really cared about the customer. We corresponded by email to clarify questions I had on the written contract. Once I was satisfied that Sta-Built would honor my email requests, I signed the contract. Then the job was turned over to Leland. I must commend Sta-Built on their professionalism. The finished retaining wall looks incredible. I love it. The work started on April 18, 2022. I was told the work would be complete within a week. After 3 months, on July 22, I met with Fin from Sta-Built who finished the project on July 29, 2022. I was extremely happy with Fin and his work ethic. He never left me wondering where he was. He always texted me as soon as he found out his schedule would cause him to be late or schedule another day. Fin actually did exactly what I asked and more. On August 1, 2022 Leland texted me that the work was complete and asked me if I had had a chance to look at it. On August 5, 2022, I did go to the house and inspected it. It was complete with a few minor items that I will plan to take care of myself. On a scale of 1 to 5, I rate Sta-Built during construction as follows: Responsiveness - 1 Leland, Brian and Fin - 5 Punctuality - 1 Leland, Brian and Fin - 5 Project - 3.5 Company - 3.0 Communications - 1 Leland, Brian and Fin - 5 Itemizing my concerns: 1. It should not have taken over 3 months to do a job that was originally promised in 1 week 2. My texts and emails to Leland were not answered in a timely manner, sometimes it took several reminders. Sometimes no answer at all. This is the primary concern I have about Leland. So much so that it soured all of my opinions toward Sta-Built who otherwise seems very professional. 3. For example, I waited for 2 hours for a phone call from Leland who did not bother to tell me he was on a flight from the East Coast until after he landed. Leland seems to value his time more than mine. 4. Some of the written contract requirements were not strictly adhered to but were brushed off by Leland as "not needed" [river rock, backfill, drainage behind front wall] 5. A drain pipe that was supposed to have been extended below and beyond the wall was not installed prior to the wall being built on top of it, so after several failed attempts to comply, I as homeowner had to suggest an alternate method, which Fin installed to my satisfaction. 6. Sta-Built hired subcontractors to build the wall. There seemed to be a lack of communication and project management oversight. Sometimes the crew was not aware of the work specifically asked for. Sometimes Leland was not aware of what was actually accomplished by the crew. Many times workers would show up unannounced when there was nobody home. Many times Leland said workers would be there but nobody showed up. 7. Leland attempted to personally caulk a trench drain that Sta-Built installed in my driveway which resulted in a totally unprofessional look. Fin had to eventually remove all the drains and reinstall it and seal the edges with appropriate materials. 8. The driveway trench drain - I explained to Brian prior to the contract that I was planning to have heavy tree cutting trucks and contractors driving on the driveway in the future and wanted to be ensured that the trench drain would be heavy traffic rated. Brian sent me a jpeg of a "metal" trench drain prior to contract signing. The drain that was actually installed was plastic and cracked when I drove my Prius over it. I repeatedly asked Leland for a spec for the installed trench drain and he repeatedly ensured me that it was rated for heavy traffic and repeatedly promised to send me the spec but never did. Finally, when Fin brought replacement drain to the site I photographed the label to find out it was rated for small cars and "light" trucks. I sent a text to Leland and Brian with my concerns and received no response at all to this day. 9. An existing electrical supply to an outdoor fountain was not properly protected from the elements causing several trips of the breaker which also controlled lights and fans in the living room and front bedroom. Leland explained it was not in the contract to protect or reinstall. I have written emails to Brian discussing this issue prior to my signing the contract and was assured it would not be a problem. Leland said I would have to hire a separate electrical contractor to fix it. I believe Sta-Built is responsible and should have hired a qualified person to ensure the power was restored. read more

Time from first contact to finished project was under a month, if you can schedule in early spring, do so! They were responsive when I asked for a quality soil blend for planting and a couple of additions during the process. Plenty of communication and early notice on the one snow day they couldn't work. The plan also included a paver patio, seat wall, fire pit, and lights. The crew was friendly, polite and hardworking, even in the midst of a record breaking heat wave. They demolished the old concrete patio, built a landing from the existing steps, and moved sprinkler lines. They paid attention to details, taking frequent measurements to ensure accuracy of the construction. Ben was the project manager, checking often on the crew's progress and occasionally offering a helping hand where needed. He was very approachable and quick to respond to our questions. Sta-Built is a professionally run company with creative minds and skilled workers. We were kept apprised of the scheduling date through the Sta-Built App, which we found helpful for tracking the project stages and making payments. The bid for the amount of the work done was competitive with other companies. We trusted Sta-Built to do the job right, and they came through with flying colors. I don't even know where to start. Communication skills were extremely sub par. The first person to come over to give us a quote seemed knowledgeable. He walked us through their "process" saying we would talk to the contractor before the project even started. This was a lie. The project had to be corrected when it was being built because the contractor didn't even know what we talked about with the first guy we met! This led to multiple issues..like the concrete shown in the before photo was going to just be covered in the pavers which is not what we talked about in the quote..in the end the step made with the pavers was not made how we had originally discussed with the first guy that came over and to top it off the WRONG color pavers was used. The color was one thing I was sure about from the start of the project. The color was even in the paperwork we originally signed. When my SO mentioned it to the contractor all he said was "sorry". We paid over 6K for this so to have the wrong color was extremely infuriating. Also, the quote they give you is not the final quote. It's the quote without tax. Which is important when you call to finance. Not sure how everyone else that gave a good review got lucky but we were definitely taken advantage of. We have shown photos to our friends in the area and they like the work done and wanted the builder a information although don't know what a headache it was and how its not even the right color so we have told them to stay away from dealing with this company. One last thing, they told us it would take a month to start building it because they were so busy but came the very next weekend which is great but I would have rather waited the month to get the right job done. read more

I don't know what the difference might be, since everything about this company is truly professional, with outstanding communication. The crew could not have been more industrious and respectful - this work is hard and you would want these men to last - I only wish that they all wore respirators when the stone was being cut. Leland, the terrific project manager, is obviously sincere and aims to please - wonderful customer service on a couple of minor details that needed to be wrapped up. This is a customer-oriented, transparent company. Would work with this company again in a heartbeat. Also, they did what I asked and if they were in doubt before they started on a phase of the project, they sought my input. Bottom line up front: I do not recommend this contractor. Everything from the quote process of our paver patio to completion of the project was painful and exposed many embarrassing problems this contractor has in their business. They clearly lack attention to detail when working with customers to ensure the project is quoted correctly, customers were informed adequately of the plan of work, and that the project is conducted in accordance with what the customer wants. It required many hours from work to make corrections to onsite work to ensure it met what was quoted to us but ultimately left us with a patio we do not love. The business owner did little to address our concerns outside of offering to discount to the original price we were told. So we have a patio with the wrong stone color, various hiccups, and likely overpriced valuation. Our initial appointment for a free quote was on a Saturday, 11AUG. The salesman came 30 minutes late and had his kid in the car. I brought him out back where we discussed what we wanted (a paver patio). Initially we did not want to do anything with the concrete patio we already have, just pavers around it (150 sq ft) so he quoted the project as so and detailed they would dig out 6-8 inches of dirt, put gravel, sand, then the pavers. He quoted us a reasonable price but we decided to tear out the concrete patio and add paver stairs. Instead of using a new quote sheet and sketch, he used the same one and crossed over the old price (this detail plays a part later). He offered financing for 12 months, no interest and no monthly payment through Enerbank which seemed to be a great deal. We decided to go forward with the project and we were told we would be contacted by the project manager when they would be available to do the project since it was a busy time for them. The following week they started the project. I could not be available at all times while they worked on my patio but I stopped him during my lunch from work to check in where I had to correct several issues. They did not dig out 6-8 inches of dirt as I was told they would. A point that made the price make more sense, they did not tear out my concrete patio but instead had prepared to lay pavers on top - a major screw up, and the price that I was told by the first salesman was the "out the door price" had not included taxes so the financing we applied for at Enerbank was insufficient. These three initial issues were brought up as a concern to the project manager and then escalated to the business owner. The final problem came when my spouse came back from Texas to see the stone they laid down was not the same stone we wrote on our quote sheet. No resolution was offered. read more

This business is happy to do the work-but doesn't stand by their warranty at all. The job would be pretty simple for them to complete but after numerous inquiries and asking for a response nothing has been done. The business owner Peter Stadeli refuses to return emails or respond. The business owner did not return emails, I have complained about this company one time before for bad business practices to the BBB and here we are again. It was not until I filed a small claims notice that I got any response. The owner is not a good business person-nor does he stand behind his work. His businesses customer service is extremely lacking. Very poor follow through when requests are made-I wish now we would have never used this business for our patio. read more

Peter and the team did an outstanding job of completing our landscaping project. They modified our existing paver design and added pavers from the garage in front to the back yard. Great job of blending the two stones so it looks like it was originally designed this way. Also included was removing boatloads of dirt and installing Synthetic Lawn Grass Turf. The whole experience working with this company was outstanding. We discovered them at the Tacoma Home & Garden show and made an appointment for a quote on a retaining wall. We had a double sloping front area overgrown with 2 kinds of ivy that made any kind of gardening a challenge. We experienced excellent communication and prompt response time to questions. The retaining wall in the front yard grew to include pavers, steps, and stepping stones with work being done on all 4 sides of the house. What an amazing team of guys who did the work! Very thorough and conscientious with fantastic vision and recommendations on changes to the original design of the retaining wall to accommodate for the discoveries made when the ivy was cleared away. Receiving compliments from neighbors on the look and curb appeal improvement as well as requests for contact information. Just a short story about our Sta-Built experience. It was perfect!! From first visit to completion can't say enough for how smooth they make a home improvement project. We had a paver patio, retaining wall and lawn border added to our backyard and couldn't be happier. I am a professional airline pilot and folks say when they work for me I'm a little anal and extremely picky. I expect to get what I pay for. So, to work for me I expect on time, professionalism and the job done right or to my satisfaction. I have been in Customer Service with a Company that prides itself and being above others to their customers. I just read a one star review from a couple (Two different reviews appears same job) trying to discredit this company and feel that this review was, well take it with a grain of salt. You cannot please everyone all the time and some folks you could never please thats life. We actually found Sea-Built on line and looked at the reviews. Our project included 120' feet of sitting walls and over 3,000 square feet of pavers and border along with a fireplace and stone wrapping of our pergola pillars, drainage and sealing. The crews were on time and professional and the work was beyond my expectations. We ran into a small problem when our order for cement could not be fulfilled on time and Peter stepped in to remedy the situation and he said he would do anything to make me happy. In all of these reviews you see mostly five stars. Our project was not cheap and in fact because of our job, there have been three other larger projects than mine from it, Two of them premium contractors in the Browns Point are and one a very close friend of mine. Once people see the work, they ask if I had a business card for them (no I don't get commissions from Sta-Built, I was just impressed with the owner and company). I am retiring in a year or so and this was the last thing we needed to do to our home. I cannot say enough good things about this company, Peter or Leland. Personally, the detail and work was beyond reproach or our expectations and you will not be disappointed in the final outcome. read more
