Was looking for something good for to eat while in the area and this was the first spot to pop up and this is exactly what I decided on. Pictures looked incredible and the reviews were good so I gave it a whirl. It's like a mom n pop type of joint but not so much, there's a bit of seating indoors with a bar also. There's tons of old "memorabilia" of old alcohol containers and New Orleans themed decor. They have plenty of good menu items to choose from but the waitress said they are known for their roast beef. Went ahead and got that as well as the meat pies for starters and onion rings, and my girl got the shrimp poboy. The meat pies were good and cooked to order (we arrived at 8:30pm on a Tuesday), the onion rings kind of let me down but they weren't terrible. They're battered really thick and the inside isn't as crispy. Her shrimp poboy was outstanding, I only had a bite or 2 and I was quite jealous. The roast beef was really good and a bit messy, not too wet but messy. There's a reason the reviews are high like they are. The waitress was very nice to us and they had a couple of guys together just kicking the with another older woman there. It's like everyone knows everyone over there and that's a great environment. It was $38 for all of our food and I was expecting more therefore I can't complain one bit about this visit.

Best local spot for poboys, can never get enough! Service is slow because everything is made fresh. Plan to hang out for a while with family and friends. I recommend the roast beef!

Little busy during lunch time. Food takes a bit.. But food was good and staff was friendly.. Ordered large/18inch stuffed shrimp poboy.. Well it was 18 inches alright.. Lots of food..

This place has a lot of old school charm out on River Road not far from Destrehan Plantation. The menu has a VERY extensive history of the evolution of this place into its current form and makes for an interesting read. The ladies working here were very friendly and gave great service. I had visited this establishment at their previous location and this was my first visit to their current location. The prices seem to have not changed since my last visit at their previous location and the prices are a GREAT value here so this is a VERY affordable restaurant and bar. St. Rose Tavern offers a selection of changing daily specials along with a selection of fried seafood plates and po boys. The medium shrimp po boy is the size of most other places large but had the shrimp a bit overcooked which made the shrimp on the tough side. The large 18 inch roast beef po boy seems like a lot of food and usually would give me the expectation I would have some left over. The roast beef po boy was imposing when I first unwrapped it and the French bread was perfectly toasted. The roast beef itself was good but there wasn't a great deal of it on the sandwich and there also wasn't a lot of gravy. The meat was adequately juicy but it just had a hint of gravy flavor that I wanted more of. The thin layer of meat enabled me to easily finish the entire 18 inches of the sandwich with no problem. As a point of comparison eating the "smaller" whole roast beef at R&O's leaves me far more full as there is a greater quantity of meat and the flavor of that po boy still leaves R&O's as my top choice for a roast beef po boy. St. Rose Tavern definitely makes a good roast beef and I will certainly return to this charming spot to sample more of their menu.

Nice place by the river. Looks like a normal house except for few signs, but inside has an old barn tavern feel. Mostly po-boys and few other items. The po-boy didn't come fast, but with toasted bread and strong flavor pulled beef. Good food with easy going down Mexican beer, the life is good by the river. Should stop by when in Norlco or in Destrehan!

We found this restaurant years ago when we were on vacation. Although the original is no longer there, the new place is delicious or to try.

We tried Boudin Balls that were stuffed (with cheese) and the regular. They were both outstanding but I'd say maybe the ones without cheese were better. It's hard to say because they were both very good. The smoked boudin was better in my opinion only because the casing dries out a bit it makes it crispy so we of course just ate it whole. The regular boudin has a casing that isn't crispy so we chose to just eat the filling. The inside was just as good as the smoked. We only tried the chicken cracklin's and holy cow were they good! Some pieces were real crispy while others were a bit bigger and still had some meat on them. There was a perfect mix up large and small pieces, crispy and not crispy pieces. I wish we had these in Michigan. We brought home some andouille so we could make jambalaya and gumbo. We just cooked some andouille, and it was a little bit spicy and so good. We also brought home some boudin and can't wait to cook that. Be sure to check out their freezer section and take home some different things. This place was such a gem to find! The staff was very friendly and helped us make decisions on exactly what we needed to try since we had never been before. There is seating inside if you're looking to eat there. We just ordered things we could eat on our road trip home as well as things to cook/eat later. I'm only complaint was that the bathroom was not very clean and the toilet didn't flush. That doesn't matter much because you should really be going here for the food! :)

We had no idea how right we were. The island was almost empty and the only people we encountered were state troopers sitting on the side waiting for some speeders. Further down into the island we had almost given up on the idea to have a "real" shrimp meal and turned around. Since it was time for a "natural" break we stopped at several places but they were all closed - except for one. When we drove on the parking lot a lady came out waving at us and asking us to come in. It was in fact the ONLY place that was opened selling beverages on Christmas Day. However, food was provided for free by the residents that came together to celebrate Christmas and they invited us to join them for their Christmas meal. We had ham and turkey, sweet potatoes, stuffing among many other things. What a great experience. Everyone was so friendly and kind that even the 90 minute trip to and from N'awlins was worth every minute. Thank you!
