Jambalaya Shoppe came highly recommended by a work buddy so I met him there one day. After that, it became my go-to lunch spot. Like its name indicates, this place sells a bunch of jambalaya. I rarely eat jambalaya that isn't made by me so I was skeptical. But they also sell gumbo which every red blooded Louisianaian loves so that is what I ordered. The gumbo here is legitimately good. It is filled with large pieces of chicken. When I say large, I mean multiple whole thighs. Get it with a fork and knife. Seriously. This is not your normal restaurant gumbo. It is thick, rich, and has a well developed roux. In addition to the massive amounts of chicken, it also includes a massive amount of sausage. Luckily for me, it came pre sliced and only the chicken needed to be cut up before eating. The best thing about the gumbo is that it is super reasonable. Don't quote me on prices because my brain doesn't work so good, but I think it was like $9 with tax for gumbo and a water. This is a massive meal for $9! If you want good gumbo, and are in LaPlace, get yourself to Jambalaya Shoppe.

The best catfish I'd ever had was at Paula Dean's in Tennessee -- that is until I had this catfish. OMGGGG! Unreal. I love these hole-in-the-wall places like this that just make the best food. You'd never assume this would be the best meal I had all trip by looking at the pictures, but it certainly was. Fairly priced. Friendly staff. Super clean. 10/10 experience! My only complaint if I HAD to say something: I wish they had a house-made tartar sauce. The little packet they give you was lackluster. But otherwise incredible meal!!!!

But the counter service is quick and you won't have to wait long. The full-size po-boys are massive. If you get a Ferty (roast beef, ham, Swiss cheese), bring a construction crew to help you eat it, or be prepared to be eating leftovers for two or three days. I love a good shrimp po-boy, but it's usually too big for me. I have landed on the Shrimp on a bun as a fantastic alternative. It's so overstuffed with shrimp you can't eat it without them falling out. And it is perfectly dressed with just the right amount of lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mayonnaise. And the fries! Y'all, the fries are so crispy and delicious, and they also come in a massive amount. Too many for one sitting. This is a place I regularly stop at for lunch when I am in this area.

I like the onions actually cut and dont stay whole when trying to eat them. She didnt care for the pecan chicken salad. It looked heavily overdressed, over fried, dry, tough and just unappealing. My "smoked" primer rib was very salty. And even though it is smoked, it had the texture and taste of being raw. I normally eat primerib med rare, this wasn't a hit for me. When I tell you that was top 5 best salmon I've ever eaten. It was so flavorful and moist. It was PERFECTLY seasoned and cooked. The spinach, veggies, and potatoes were an excellent touch of freshness. I will definitely be back for the salmon. The Caesar salad was also divine. In fact, I think it's the best Caesar salad I've tried. The dressing is slightly more tart than other Caesar dressings; however, it's tart in the most palate-pleasing way. The cheese was abundant and fresh, and the romaine was crisp and fresh. I did not try the redfish but our family friend was satisfied. Finally, the warm rolls with that butter are enough to start a fight over for the last roll. I ate 3 at the table, which I never do. They're so light, buttery, and are served warm. The butter is possibly a whipped garlic butter concoction. I had to stop eating them. Overall, I really enjoyed our dinner. Do not be thrown off by the dated decor--some of the best food comes from places like these. My only hangup is the imported seafood. I'm not a big fan of imported seafood, in general. However, I do not think that takes away from the restaurant if you're looking for a great meal. And I'm mindful that domestic costs are often (and are growing) financially infeasible for some restaurants. Great spot!!

The same Mac & Cheese was listed for $4.00. It was never explained of a cost difference after being told I can substitute because so I was going to get the Mac & Cheese regardless to try it out. I also ordered the Baked Bread Pudding. Placing the order took a little time and the Kiosk seemed to be a little cumbersome. Paying attention to my receipt, I see a To Go Fee of. $0.75 which isn't much but it was just an observation. Service is not quick! Order was placed at 11:57 and I received my close to an hour later. So I took a seat and patiently waited for my name to be call. Started paying attention to other patrons who were dining in and waiting for their food. Each table had people sitting down and having casual conversation. I counted about 21 people including myself. The atmosphere was pleasant but it was not giving. They had music playing from station 107.5. I'm a stickler for sanitation and it's the little things that matter....dipping cups in an ice machine vice using a ice scooper, wearing gloves particularly when servicing food to those dining in and not using a tray bring out food. Simply doing too much to not be consistently washing hands. Same person taking away soiled trays is bringing out food. One customer had to ask for utensils for his Togo orders as he didn't have any. A second customer just got her Togo order and had to ask for utensils as well. Just saying with a To Go Fee, you think that someone will check or maybe they are just overwhelmed with the services they are trying to provide. 30 minutes later, I'm still patiently waiting and listening to Drake with my AirPods in. So this is heavily leaning towards a One Shot One Kill for me. This business had 6 potential customers who came in and walked out. I witnessed four potential customers who were never greeted or given an explanation as to how the operation goes. It's safe to say they more than likely will not be coming back. They were on the lure but the lack of acknowledgment allowed them to get away. Update: Got my food in To Go containers at approximately 56 minutes after paying for my order. I did check my bag before leaving and no utensils could be found. Once I got back to my office, I saw that they did place a fork in each tray which was essentially covered with food as it was not separated. I would prefer to have a utensil pack or a knife and fork wrapped in a napkin. Guess only reason is that my food all being cooked fresh as it's ordered Joking How was the food? Fish and Shrimp: Tasty with a nice consistency for then breading. Lasagna: Simply did not have the layers for me as meat sauce, noodles, cheese filling (did not exist. The top layer of the lasagna had some hard spots and the ends of the noodle were crunchy. The sauce beneath it was on the sweat side and did not match the same flavor of the lasagna itself. Mac & Cheese: Peppery flavor with cheese tasting more on the Velvetta side. I never pictured Mac & Cheese with shells. Surely was not expecting it to be like this. Bread Pudding: Best Part of the Meal. The flavor, consistency and sweetness were all on point! . They did have sauce on the Menu for a $1 but prior to my order, I thought a sauce was automatic like many other locations serve. I did not let my emotions overtake my Honest review!
