I stumbled upon Jay Flem on Yelp, and I'm so glad I did. It's a small cozy spot, only a few people were seated when I walked in but I was greeted like family the moment I stepped through the door. It's open seating, so I grabbed a table in the middle, and the Jae immediately made me feel taken care of. She handed us physical menus (even though there was a QR code), shared her favorite dishes, and offered drinks with such genuine warmth that it felt like we were regulars. We ordered the fish pasta platter and the red beans and rice plate, and let me tell you every bite was a flavor bomb. The fish was tender, crunchy, and perfectly seasoned. The pasta was creamy, full of Cajun spice, loaded with shrimp, and just addictive. The red beans and rice were soft, hearty, and deeply flavorful, paired with a fresh side salad and four crispy wings. Every item on the plate felt intentional. The food came out piping hot, condiments were offered without even needing to ask, and the garlic bread? A star in its own right. Crunchy, buttery, garlicky heaven. To top it all off, we had the bread pudding, and whew, that dessert took me out. Rich, sweet, and soul-soothing. I'm pretty sure I went into a food coma afterward. We are from New Mexico and travel often to actively seek out local flavor. If you are looking for an incredible meal, look no further. Chef Terry is a true professional; the attention to detail and depth of flavor here is something you usually only find in high-end city spots. Our server, Ronjae, provided service that was absolutely outstanding. Before we even ordered, he told us we wouldn't need to touch the salt or pepper because the food was 'off the charts' flavorful--and he was 100% right. We ordered the pasta and fish plate. The pasta with the shrimp and crawfish was incredible! I am not usually a big fish person, but this was outstanding--if I could get it prepared that well everywhere, I'd order it every day. And whatever you do, don't skip the bread pudding. It was out of this world! Pro Tip: If you happen to get there on a Thursday, you would be wise to purchase some of Crystal's pralines. The local food you were looking for!!!!! Stumbled across this place on my road trip East and it should have been a featured stop! The staff was so friendly and clearly loved what they were doing. The food was otherworldly. Ordered the white beans and rice. Savor and not needing any additional flavoring. It was creamy, had that homemade flavor. Clearly someone cared about how good this food tasted. The wings had the biggest crunch with tender meat. And the bread pudding was absolutely the best I've had. A not overly sweet base with the most sensational sauce on top. I couldn't decide if I wanted to savor every little bite or devour the entire thing whole. I did get chicken wings by mistake, but they were top 3 for fried chicken. It was juicy and flavorful, just like the white beans! Everyone can't make potato salad but they can. Awesome it was open on a Sunday after the game and on the way home. Food and music was good and service was super friendly they just had a mishap which made us wait over an hour for food when it wasn't busy which was tough to swallow considering we were tired and my father is not a patient waiter. They did apologize and give us a free dessert without asking which was nice but for waiting so long felt they could have offered something more. Red beans were great, fried chicken was good but could use some seasoning. White beans were ok too salty. Pork chop was fantastic in certain parts and little dry in some. The burger was good and big but didn't taste mushrooms as they were too small or not enough. Bread pudding was drowned in sauce and great. OMG! When I visit an unfamiliar city, I like to get out of town and find a small joint where the locals eat. Well, today, we found Jae Flem in Boutte Louisiana. The kind of place where the staff knows everybody, and the customers all know each other. We were obviously out of place there. The place is nothing fancy, but the best damn red beans and rice and fried chicken I've ever had. My wife's grilled shrimp and potato salad were also stunningly delicious. It Monday and I was looking forward to the teddy burger but when I arrived the guy I think is an owner said we are closed and only open Thursday and Friday. I was bummed out and told him this is mr first try and it sucks ghat you are closed. He said I have the grill on as friends are coming. So I hate for you to come all this way and not get to try and said he will cook a burger and fries as long as I wanted to wait. I said are you sure because I will wait as I heard the burgers are awesome. So the guy is cooking me a burger right now while I wait. Awesome guy and I will definitely be back. I looooove love love Jae Flem, the owner Ronjai has an amazing personality, and the food is so much for such a great price! I eat here so often id have to go back a long time ago to find a picture!! My favorite is their Ronjai burger, it's ginormous enough to eat in two sittings or share. My son loves the Friday special with fried fish, salad and pasta, he destroys it!
