This is one of my favourite little cafes in Crows Nest. It was the artisan organic bakers tag line that drew me but it was the gorgeous range of pastries, cakes and sandwiches that kept me going back. The sandwiches are the kind you make at home when you've bought a be Italian loaf and have just been to a fresh food delicatessen... like that but better in my sorry sandwich making house. Whenever I get lunch here I can't go past the lemon chicken with aioli dressing sandwich. But what I love is that they don't mind making one up fresh for me with gluten free bread - homemade bread. And as far as gluten free bread goes this one is a winner. I've tried all sort but this tops it for me. Even better - I buy a loaf for home consumption (my sandwiches are never as good as St Malos' but I make a mean avocado on toast drizzled with olive oil, salt and pepper... don't forget the butter!). The coffee is smooth and the organic bottled juices and fizzy drinks are tasty too. Price wise a loaf of the gluten free bread is $6.80 and the sandwiches are about $8. To use a card for payment you have to spend over $10 which is pretty easy to do in this place. Children's high chairs are available. No WiFi. One final and worthy note is that one time when I was eating said sandwich mentioned above Mr Gary Mehiga - the Masterchef judge himself - sat himself down and ordered the same sandwich I was eating. Good taste buds munch alike ;)

    Great coffee

Fantastic brekky and, great coffee. The berry-custard brioche's are amazing.

Today was a lovely sunny winters day so was looking for a cafe in Crows Nest where I could sit outside and do some work.

Nice looking baked goods with a tight seating area. Too bad the taste of the food did not match the appearance. The chocolate croissant had about a snack size candy bar's worth of chocolate in it. The beef filling inside the meat pie had dried up a bit and was quite salty. I've had much better meat pies from frozen food sections at way less than half the price.

Haven't been back to either of the aforementioned shops since then. I always seem to get a combination of some of my favorite items: red bean buns-not to be confused with their red bean "paste" buns, which are thicker and sweeter-, custard buns, egg tarts, plain polo buns, and taro polo buns. There's all range in price $1.00 ~ $2.00, and I definitely prefer their versions to the ones found in other shops as these ones are less sweet and more generous with filing. Also, please be on the lookout for their pre-close specials, where they bag a few assorted items for a hugely discounted price in late afternoon around 5-6pm!

"World-shaking."…read more Not normally how I'd describe anything, let alone a patisserie, but - mon dieu! - what slice of provincial France exists here in outyling suburbia. They serve coffee in bowls. Bowls! Where are we, Biarritz? There's always a queue, a necessary evil I'm afraid but then, with the sheer Gallic quality of, oh, let's see, *absolutely everything* they produce (in the bakery you can see with your own two eyes (three if you're Tasmanian) out the back of the shop, no less), I'd be worried if there weren't a queue. And really, they could charge what they want, these taste magicians. Their artisan skillz endow them with a virtual license to print money. But do they? They do not! A regular latte is a mere $2.80. Say whaaat?! If you don't get in afore 8am you won't even see a Country Loaf let alone snag one. You'll be left with perfect baguettes, homemade jams, petit fours, and the best almond croissants I've ever tasted (and I once adjudicated at the Best Almond Croissants Awards).

Arrive anytime after 10 in the morning and you'll find a seriously depleted selection of breads (their country loaves are a personal fave), but the range of sweets is grazed on throughout the day as guests stop for morning and afternoon tea. Considering the perfection of their pastries and intricacy of each creation, the prices are more than reasonable - just $1.60 for their mini items like raspberry tartlets and coffee éclairs, or $4.50 for a larger items, like the individual roasted, caramelised macadamia cake covered in dark chocolate ganache and flecked with edible gold. The seats are scarce with only some four tables on hand inside, but try to grab one if you can to get the full Gallic experience: the woman regularly manning the till speaks with a bona fide accent, the coffee served as bowls of café au lait rather than paper takeaways, the chairs familiar black-and-white Parisienne wicker creations.
