I have probably been to over 100 Irish pubs over the years...This is the first time I have ever given a bad review to one, as they're usually quite consistent in providing a great experience...I had a less-than-favorable visit to this establishment a few years back, but wanted to give it another try this weekend...This is a beautiful, authentic Irish pub, with interior decor brought over from Dublin...Has good food, however the quality of service is sorely lacking...Had done a great hike with my wife, and had a craving for a couple of cold pints and a light snack...The Irish lass that took our order recommended the Stuffed Yorkies, which were a pleasant choice...Ordered a pint of Kilkenny, which was also good...Restaurant was less than half full, and we were in the back next to a young family...Our waitress was quite attentive to them, but never bothered to see how our food was tasting, or if we needed another drink...Sat with an empty glass in front of me for over 10 minutes, as the waitress checked on the table next to us twice...Finally had to walk up to the bar to ask about getting a pint...Bartender said he would have the waitress bring it over...Bad idea ! Waited another 10 minutes, still no drink...Waitress finally came over to see if I wanted another drink...Politely told her that I had gone to the bar to order one, to which she replied " I know, but just wanted to double-check ", in a rather condescending manner...I mean, why not just bring me the drink if she knew I had to go to the bar myself ? If she had had the decency to say "Hey, sorry about that", all would have been fine...Instead, we got a snotty attitude for no apparent reason..Not cool..In all, took 25 minutes to get a simple pint....Put somewhat of a damper on what had been a great day in Banff....Afterwards , went around the corner to The Bear St. Pizza'n'Beer Tavern, where the service was very friendly, engaging, and prompt...Would not recommend St James, as the service has been unacceptable and rude on 2 different occasions...Must be a lousy place to work, as all the employees seem pretty crabby...Too bad, as it should be an awesome place to drain a couple pints...Go somewhere else.... read more
