Sorry but I love this place. The villas are where it's at. Says you can sleep 6 but we have crammed 8-10 people before. We rent them for $500 a weekend and it's worth it. Bring your cooler and drinks and head on up. The pool is solid and the bar/restaurant is as well. The villas have AC and stove, fridge and microwave. Villa 5 has a huge deck and grill. Bring your own towels and linen and you are set. Sometimes we don't even make it over to PIB. Middle Bass more for locals and not near as rowdy. Good weekend read more

First I'd like to start with my husband & I had an amazing trip to MBI overall... Unfortunately we stayed at the worst villa at St Hazards. William Herzog, was the slumlord we rented this Air bnb from, Please do yourself a favor & find else where. When contacted he didnt want to do anything except finally after communicating all day, give a free day on a future trip (Which WHY would I want to go back to a disgusting unlivable villa? I'm sure him & his family don't stay in a place like that on the island!) It was disgusting & the photos from this villa was not updated on Air bnb. We cleaned the entire first day, water didn't work when arrived either. There was food in the microwave. I have photos from this whole experience, only negative was the villa itself & we were told it was the worst one. Thankfully we got it last minute when it was on sale or we would have paid $317 a night to sleep in filth. I went home with bites on my arm, dead insects everywhere, the shower was GROSS and the liner was even more gross. Spiderwebs everywhere. We have never stayed somewhere so gross, & contacted Heroz with multiple photos and cleaned the place. You'd think we'd at the very least get our $100 cleaning fee back, but that was a no go! Onto the positive side, golf cart at the resort was $60ish a day and they have a bus that will take you anywhere on island for $3, many places you can just walk though. The guy bartender was there everyday/night & was great. the resort Food was mediocre & it could be updated but we didn't mind that. I'd go back for another trip, but we'd probably be staying at Walleyes. read more

William and Ryan our Air BNB Hosts were awful and deceitful!!!! We booked a so-called "villa" # 15 but arrived to learn they put us in # 11. These are no villas!! These are trailers on a glorified trailer park with a dumpy pool and bar. William stated that # 15 was under construction and later told me that # 15 was sold only after I kept messaging him about our stay in #11 and why we are not at # 15 which is what we booked and paid for. The locals told us they had done this before to others so please BE AWARE of this scam!!! read more

Resort is a very generous term.. we stayed in Cabin 1 at St. Hazards. DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE WE DID. It was bare bones, as anticipated, but the porch light and inside ceiling lights didn't work. Porch was covered in cobwebs and dirt, with a loose front step. We didn't have a fire pit outside as we were sold -the front desk said we could take one from another vacant site. Inconvenienced, but okay. The WORST part was definitely the bathrooms... They were constantly dirty and clogged, even the restaurant/pool ones. I've stayed in state parks for 1/2 the price with much nicer facilities. The bath trailer was disgusting, it smelled just walking up to it. I would've loved to shower, but wasn't sure what I would contract in there. It was filmy and rust colored. The cleanliness was our biggest concern and it should be yours too. Pool needed updating, but the music and drinks were nice. Too bad we didn't want to relax & drink more because then we would've had to use those disgusting bathrooms even more. Spend the extra $$ and stay in Put In Bay. read more

It was our first night on Middle Bass Island and we didn't feel like taking the ferry over to Put-in-Bay for the night. Luckily, there are 2 bars on Middle Bass. This one was closest to our house so we stopped by. We walked but they do have a shuttle, which is nice. We got there around 10 or so and I liked the tiki bar vibe. There was a group playing volleyball in the pool and about a dozen people bellied up to the bar. They have your basic beverage choices, priced about what you'd expect for a casual laid-back island bar. AKA not breaking the bank. There was a fire pit set up, which was nice when it started getting a little chilly. We had fun here, but one night was enough. Definitely recommend going at night -- this place loses its luster in the daylight. read more

This is a fun little patio with fountains and a pool. The music was very good, the Flyin' J's were there. We had been warned about the slow service, I heard it described as double island time. I also heard it described as redneck tiki, but I think that's a little harsh. As the night wore on, the bartenders started to grow on me. I realized, they did not at all care about being fast. This was a hobby for them and they were actually doing me a favor getting me anything at all. Once I realized the score, I just mellowed out and enjoyed watching the bartenders get as lubricated as the all the patrons. I'm being a little sarcastic, but honestly we really had fun and adjusted to the laid back vibe. No idea why it's called St. Hazard's. Commodore Perry was anything but a saint. But anyway, it's a five minute walk from the marina. read more

August 2013 This review is for the bar/pool only. This place is weird. It looks like someone spent tons of money making the place look really really cool. You're at some kind of tropical island resort, the layout is labyrinthine and amazing, the inside of the restaurant looks really cool, and you don't even have to be checked into their villa/hotel/whatever it is to hang out at the pool. The trouble is, it seems rather poorly run. They used to brew their own beer, now they don't. The restrooms were... appalling at best. Overflowing toilets with no soap, and no apparent care from the employees. The bartenders were nice, our fellow pool loungers were entertaining, the drinks were cheap, the setup is extremely cool, but overall it seems poorly/sketchily executed. They've got a serious diamond in the rough here. read more

We stayed at a nearby condo, and the St. Hazards Bar was very convenient. The staff at our condo recommended that we stay away from the food at this bar because several people had gotten sick there the week before. The beer was served cold, so no complains about that. The staff was friendly, but unorganized. They have an indoor and outdoor bar, along with a pool and hot tub. The bathrooms are disgusting and all parts of the outdoor bar/patio/deck area are poorly maintained and dirty. The indoor section is better, but not by much. I would go back because, it was an easy place to get a drink near our condo, but would not go out of my way to visit this bar. read more

I am not sure where to start with our experience - I guess I will start off with the good - The employees at St Hazards are great, very helpful and understanding and willing to make it the best as possible in the situation they are dealing with. The property is super cute and has tons of potential however management is terrible - Ed has no business owning any type of business. We booked a cabin for the weekend that was to include a double bed, bunk beds and mini fridge and a working AC unit. Upon check in our AC unit was not working (blowing hot air) its was 90 plus this past weekend so our cabin was basically a sweat/hot box! I went back to the front desk and the girl working tried everything possible to move us but could not because they were completely booked (understood). They offered us some fans which they took from the kitchen staff (I guess they only have 2 fans on the whole complex....) My husband and our friend cleaned the AC filters out that did help somewhat when it cooled down in the evening - it was just tolerable at that point. Our party of 10 went to the bar to have some drinks and that's when I encountered Ed - I went to ask him about our AC unit not working and he immediately jumped up pointed his finger in my face and started screaming at me "what do you want me to do about it" I was taking back I certainly did NOT expect that sort of a reaction. I was simple telling him that our AC unit did not work - he continued to scream at me and tried to belittle me by saying that all "I wanted was a free weekend" and that "your on a remote island you paid $99.00 a night ohhhhhhhhh what do you expect" well I expected to have working AC in 90 degree weather. He also confronted my husband screaming at him as well saying that he would give us 4 free drinks but we must leave the next day, that he was evicting us and also calling the cops. At this point I offered to call the cops, I would have loved to explain the situation to them..... I was not asking for any type of compensation originally we wanted to stay, just with working AC. The shower houses are absolutely terrible!!! Reeked of urine BADLY! The lights in the showers did not work so you had to shower with the door open.... The main bathroom facilities were never cleaned from the night before so they were always filthy the next day. There is a huge dumpster in the back over flowing with garbage - I understand that you are on an island and garbage pick up is probably random but the old saying goes out of sight out of mind.... Should be fenced off and not seen to your guest. We were told to not drink the water - honestly thought it was a joke but now reading other peoples posts I am a little worried - I only had one cup with my breakfast. Also, you have to pay in full before you even arrive, which now explains A LOT - I have never had to do that before its usually down payment first balance due when you arrive or check out. This should have been our first warning sign because now you are stuck - last ferry is at 7:15pm So long story short - Ed is a terrible business owner and terrible person, very combative he's does NOT want to or TRY to make it right and he makes that very clear, slum lord at its finest - Just wants to scream and tell you that you are the obnoxious one. Do yourself a favor and do not book from this guy. We will be reporting him to the BBB, Trip Advisor, Yelp and all other social media outlets. read more

I don't feel like I am in Ohio anymore!!! This bar has such a tropical and laid back atmosphere. The fun and friendly staff keep this place in business! It is managed poorly, and service can be slow, but the entertaining staff made up for it. If the owner of this place ever gets it together, it could be a very successful business. I would go back regularly, for the staff and locals make the best of it! read more

Was there for Xmas in July weekend 2013. The trailer which they call Villas was unlocked when we got there. Water smelled of strong sulfur. So bad that you could not shower or use sink because your trailer would smell of rotten eggs. The window unit was covered in vomit and it went on to curtains. There were dead flies and other bugs through out. One room that had bunk beds but did not even have a window unit for air. Carpet stains and garbage outside overflowing. Lets talk pool and hot tub. Hot tub closed and green. Pool green but not as dirty as I thought. Good pool side service. However when you are in pool you can see under all lounge chairs- beer cans, wrappers and leaves every where. One person working the actual bar and no one inside the main building. We heard that late night the indoor bar was popular. No one was there and the indoor smelled of cat urine. As for food there are no prices listed on menu. Place has a lot of potential but someone needs to rescue or just shut it down. read more

Stay away! They had one of their own beers and it tasted like an old sweaty sock smells. It seems like this place is suffering from terrible management. It is filthy and only one person working the floor. I must say she was a good server but had way too much to do to offer good service. We waited over an hour for food and it was average at best. I love the vibe and nearly everything about this place. However, the food is definitely not a high point. I've tried the food several times before deciding this will just remain a bar and hangout place. The last time there I thought i would try the potato skins, figuring they are hard to mess up. We stopped in the restaurant for some drinks and food. Unfortunately, we sat for an hour waiting for our perch basket. We mentioned this to our server after 30 minutes and 45 minutes and he assured us our food was coming. There was only one other table occupied in the restaurant so, I think service for two tables should be beyond reproach. After the hour was up I paid our bar tab and canceled the fish basket order. I got the impression our experience was SOP because nobody seemed to care. This took place at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17th. Next time we visit Middle Bass, I will be sure we go directly down the street to Walleye's where they prepared a fish basket in ten minutes. If I was to Hazard a guess, I'd say this place needs some management. Any management. read more

Do NOT stay at this horribly ran business. My fiancé and I were not able to stay in our chalet we had rented because it was so disgusting. Our toilet seat was broken, literally hanging off, our mattress was stained so we decided to sleep on the futon, only to open it up and find old food and hair ties. The pillows that were provided had looked like someone peed on them. We felt very uncomfortable. We were certainly mislead by the website. It is NOT a RESORT. This is a CAMPGROUND. And unfortunately the only place to stay. When we had brought the issue to the "manager" he had replied that it's "just too bad" and they DONT DO REFUNDS. We had planned on staying two nights, but didn't stay any. (We stayed with a friend who owns a house on the island one night, and just went home the next day). The "manager" who said he was only "kind of" the manager, who actually WAS THE OWNER, was actually yelling and raising his voice at me. He was even questioning how our friend could afford their house??! This is a very very very poorly ran business. I have reported them to the B.B.B and will be demanding my money back. The owner was trying to explain that he doesn't give refunds because ITS NOT THAT KIND OF BUSINESS. I paid over $150 a night for a nasty bug infested chalet. Definitely do not ever recommend this campground to anyone. What a horrible business/business man. read more

Years ago we stayed here and it was fabulous, this should be a spectacular resort, but the owner and the staff have let it deteriorate. I knew there was trouble when I called to make my reservation and the girl could barley finish a sentence or communicate when asked simple questions. When we checked in, there was no one at the front desk, and finally a young lady came out from the bar area eating an ice cream cone. She did not say "Hello" or greet us in anyway, instead we offered up our name, and as she continued to eat her ice cream cone, she pulled out our paper work and walked us to our accommodations, still, eating her ice cream cone and saying NOTHING. I asked her a couple questions about the grounds and where everything was, and she mumbled something I could barely understand. During our stay, we found this to be the same with ALL of the staff. No smiles, no greetings, just head down, ignore you and if you asked a question, they were very rude and "put out" to have to answer you. No actual office hours or drop box, so you never knew what to do with the key when you checked out. This once beautiful and posh resort is overgrown with weeds, paint chipping and faded, dirty facilities, and extremely poor customer service. Gordon Ramsey would have a field day with this place on Hotel Hell. What a shame! The possibilities for it to be fabulous are there....if only someone actually CARED! OH, and there is NO beach area and Tiki bar, just rocks on the beach and the shuttered remains of a Tiki Bar. The pool and Tiki Bar had a few guests some of the time, but the pool looked dirty and had stains all over the bottom of it, so I was apprehensive to get in. I noticed most guest walked up the street and hung out at JF Walleyes. A restaurant, pool and bar where the staff was friendly and everything was well taken care of. I can almost forgive the fading paint and unkept grounds if the staff treated you decently, but in this day and age, there is no excuse form POOR customer service. plain and simple. Treat people how you would like to be treated. At least that's what we are trained to do, in MY customer service job! read more

We paid $250 for the weekend in a cabin. It did have cob webs that could have easily been cleaned. It was a basic little cabin that had ac, fridge, microwave, and small little table. One queen size bed and bunk beds. The mattress looked like it was really old but it wasn't that bad. Of course you bring your own sheets and blankets ect.. we knew that we weren't going to be spending much time in the cabin so it was fine for us bc we don't need much. We just basically slept there. The pool and hot tub was nice and clean. The bar was nice and a lot of fun. The band was just okay. We are simple ppl so we don't need luxury. For $250 for the whole weekend was perfect for us. The atmosphere and vibe was really nice. The bartender was personable and the food was actually really good. However, the restrooms/ shower room was disgusting. Every single toilet had urine in it. Ppl don't know how to flush the damn toilet or what.. it smelled of urine so bad that I had to keep stepping out when doing my makeup bc the smell was just overwhelming. I was actually gagging.. if they would just do some simple cleaning and keep things maintained then it would have been better. The restrooms is really my only complaint.. other than that we had a blast and loved the vibe of the place. Just needs to be maintained. Maybe more staff to be able to actually clean the place up. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!! 0 Stars I'd give a negative 5 if it allowed Filthy, dirty rooms. Bird nests and piles of bird feces in the halls. The extra broke refrigerator in the living area and broke dishwasher full of dirty dishes was a nice perk. Sheets, blankets and pillows should all be thrown away. Listing Says "furnished" but also says sleeps 10. Maybe 6 max, we had no plates no cutlery, nothing and 2 mugs for 6-10 people. No towels or extra linens (not that we would use them anyway) maybe their definition of RESORT is different. You couldn't even sit on the couch it was so dirty. The leftover garbage under the beds was another great touch the Grande Finale was overwhelming smell of retrenchment eggs coming from the showers and the water. Our family couldn't shower or make a pot of coffee due to the odor. You are better off sleeping outside. The pool looks decent at first but the Weeds and poison Are overgrown. The Manager was nice but had no authority to refund or credit. Couldn't even get anyone to clean the hall or the rooms. The owner should just close this place and have it demolished. Ok, I felt compelled to make review. As a boater we have been to this place many times in the past 10 years. The place has had a dramatic improvement. Strictly speaking to pool and bar area. Clean, bright, colorful and the wait staff (from Jamaica ) awesome! This place deserves a stop on your list of to dos at MBI... Great job to anyone that helped this place turn the corner. Place is a dump. The staff will ignore you to the point of being rude. Worst customer service I have had in years. They could barely mumble a response when asked a question. The ground was littered with beer cans, over grown, run down and usually the staff was nowhere to be seen. My advice is to run as fast as you can to other accommodations unless you are a glutton for punishment. read more

I stayed at St. Hazards for memorial weekend 2015. I have been to Hazards many times before so I wasn't expecting too much. When me and my friends arrived it was the same old hazards on the outside, meaning the villas left a little to be desired. But when we went into Hazards, that's where the 4 stars go. The whole staff on the inside were terrific. Kris and his gf (I'm sorry Kris gf I forgot your name!) have done an amazing job in the kitchen. Food is great. Jenn the bartender...probably the best bartender I've ever had. Have to try her up in smoke drink, I wish I had one right now. The rest of the staff including the managers Bob and Rob were great. Highly recommend. Would have gotten 5 stars if the villas were a little cleaner. read more

St. Hazards Resort offers people a MUCH cheaper alternative to the lodging on Put-n-Bay. They have many small cabins and villas to rent as well as tent camping areas and places to park your camper or travel trailer. They also have some waterfront condos to rent on the water (the beach still needs some work so don't plan on swimming here or anything).They do NOT have a minimum number of nights to stay like most of the places on Put-n-Bay. We LOVE hanging around the St. Hazards pool & Tiki Bar, especially when they have live music playing on the weekends. If you are a picky person who complains about everything, this is not the place for you. But if you are a fun loving person who enjoys a tropical atmosphere and comes prepared with your own towels, sheets, & blankets, you will have a great time at this resort! The bartenders are great at the Tiki bar and their prices are reasonable. You can tell that the owner has really tried to establish a Key West/St. Bart's tropical atmosphere. We usually take our car over on the Middle Bass ferry which is about a 40 minute ferry ride...so beautiful and relaxing. There is a clean, small general store with its own small restaurant on the island. There is also a tropical restaurant called J F Walleyes which offers great food, drinks, and a shallow depth pool with a waterfall that is absolutely stunning...it also feels like you are at a tropical resort. There is a small ferry that you can take over and back to Put-n-Bay...about 10 minutes and $6 each way. Great way to enjoy PIB without the huge price tag which is usually attached. We have come to Hazards at least once a summer for the past 15 years. Sometimes several times a summer...with our kids and then just with adults sometimes. All of our friends enjoy it (35 to 45ish) and look forward to coming here. Please ignore the bad reviews...some people are never happy and obviously do not investigate a place thoroughly before they go. We have stayed in the condos, villas, cabins, and camped here and have NEVER been disappointed because we ALWAYS bring our own towels, sheets, etc. We enjoy music and having drinks around the pool; we don't expect plush bedding, new furniture, etc. for the price that we pay here instead of staying on PIB. We love St Hazards, Middle Bass Island, and its easy access to PIB. read more

If I could give negative star rating I certainly would. The worst experience I've ever had. We were charged $811 to stay 3 days, it literally smelled so bad we checked out early the next morning. When we walked in the door of the condo it smelled like sewer. It was furnished with plastic bar stools and dirty cushions on filthy wicker furniture that looks like it was brought in from outside. When we checked in we were given no information about the activities available on the island. The television didn't work and forget trying to get phone or internet service. I would say that the name St. Hazards describes this place perfectly. It is a Hazard, if you stay there it is Hazardous to your health and financial situation. We are hard working people from Oklahoma that wanted an island experience. All we got was screwed out of a lot of money with nothing to show for it. read more

What a difference one year makes. Read a lot of reviews dated from 2012. They now have new owners that are going above and beyond to make you happy. Spent a birthday weekend there with some friends and could not have been more pleased. While they are not 5 star accommodations, they are priced right, clean, and a water taxi away from PIB. If you go there, be sure to ask for the "signature shot" from the bar. read more

We stayed at St Hazzards for a bachelorette party last week. We wanted to stay on a Thursday and Friday so we could relax and enjoy the pool on Thursday, then take the Sonny S to Put in Bay on Friday for a little excitement.. The girl I talked to on the phone the day before was very accommodating when I asked for an earlier check in since the only ferry I could bring my vehicle on left at 9:15am. She made sure our villa was ready by 10. The villa we stayed in was ok. There was some debris from a previous tenant on the patio and around the fire pit but the inside was cute, clean and what we expected. The tv was positioned on a wicker end table and propped up against the kitchen island. I had to keep laying it face down when we left so no one would come in and accidentally bump it, knock it on the floor and break it. It should have been secured to the island. We brought our own linens, towels and blankets. Bring a lot of bottled water- you don't want to brush your teeth or make coffee with the stuff that comes out of their faucets. We enjoyed our afternoon at the pool, which was very nice and clean, then decided to go back to our place to clean up and then get dinner at the bar. Thats where our stay started to go downhill. The bartender decided to blatantly ignore the 4 of us who were waiting for drinks so he could flirt with another girl who had come in from the pool. We stood there patiently for LITERALLY 10 minutes while he chatted it up with this girl. This cost him quite a bit in tips because we are all servers, bartenders and restaurant managers. I don't know why he refused to acknowledge us but the only service we received was from the cook who came out and must have noticed the steam coming out of my ears. He took our food order and we all ended up getting pops because the bartender wasn't giving us any service. About a half an hour later our food came out. It was awful. Our burgers were extremely overdone. I could barely swallow the one bite I took. The fries were the only edible food on my plate. After paying our bills for our horrible service and terrible food we were all in a bad mood so we wanted to just go back to our villa and watch tv. The 2 Direct TV boxes did not work so I walked back down to the office to find out why and the cook again was the only one that would talk to me. He informed me that it was an island and no one had service. Why were there 2 Direct TV boxes in our villa then?! We were so annoyed we ended up going to bed at 9 which is really sad for a bachelorette party! On Friday we spent most of the day at Put in Bay. We decided to come back to our villa and freshen up before our night out. We were told to call at least a half hour ahead of time to request a shuttle so we called 45 min prior to our arrival on the Sonny S. Of course when we got there the shuttle was no where to be found. I called again asking where it was and they had no clue what was going on so we walked back. Luckily we found a shortcut through the woods which cut our walk back down quite a bit. When we returned from PIB on the last ferry that night there was a shuttle waiting. We had a great time in the pool and hot tub when we got back. I liked the fact that there were no pool or hot tub hours so we were able to hang out late but there was no way I was stepping foot back in that bar after our experience the night before. This place is super cute and could be so much fun. It has the potential to make a ton of money and the service staff could too if they just realized the benefit of decent customer service. read more

Unfortunately, there isn't an option for 1/2 a star. While I have not experienced staying in the condos, villas etc. I do have something to say about the "camping" area. When I called to make the reservation the lady was very nice, but did not give much information regarding the campground. Upon arrival, we checked in and we were lead to the campground area (which I guess could be considered a campground because there was ground and you could camp on it if you wanted). We then drove our car a couple of feet from one end of the "campground" to another to find that there were (what appeared to be) hornet or yellow jacket nests in the grass/dirt on each site. There was also trash everywhere, dead trees, crumbling picnic tables, and all of that luxury was only a couple yards away from the towns treatment plant. Without much hesitation we left and quickly reserved a campsite on Middle Bass State Park's campground (if you can stand on and off heavy winds it's beautiful there). I don't think I have ever written a negative review about anything, but I felt this needed to happen. They also said I would be reimbursed for switching our reservation to a weekday (which costs less) and I have yet to see that. We still don't know if they knew we left or even cared. read more
