Famous for always having live bands to play. Not a place for a family at all. This local dive bar is great but needs much improvement in cleanliness, seating and of course, making proper steps to improve it's image. Know to the locals for a place to be infested with drugs and local bums hanging outside smoking joints or whatever hit there fancy. Definite a biker bar for sure buy not one for younger crowds. If you like the feeling of tuff older crowd, this may or may not be for your tastes. Definitely great venue for live bands but depends on the venue you desire. More mellow and nicer bars in town for sure. read more

Oldest continuously running bar in America! While visiting a friend she took me here to show me the local hangouts. The service is great (bartenders super friendly and attentive), but what really makes the bar great is the locals and atmosphere. It is a bit divey but super friendly patrons and great prices on drinks. Definitely a must stop if you are in Bisbee. read more

We've been to St Elmo's many times and have had many great times there, so it's regretful that I am writing this review. But I really can't believe what happened. We met some friends there visiting from out of town, three couples, we all ordered a drink and were chatting amongst ourselves. As we finished our drinks each of us requested another round, the girls wanted some crazy mixed drink, while the guys wanted (1) whiskey and coke and (2) beers. Leah, or Lea was the bartender and seemed overwhelmed and obviously quite agitated about something. Leah made the girls cocktail, while the guys were ignored. I politely reminded Leah we still wanted our drinks and she snapped at me with "I need to wash these glasses right now!" Odd timing but ok. After washing a few glasses, then watching her make and serve several other patrons, I tried to get her attention again but to no avail. Everyone in our group saw what was happening. One of the girls in our group requested the drinks we were apparently not going to receive and was immediately served. I have never seen anything like this. Leah clearly had issue with us. We had absolutely no idea why, and while normally I'd engage and look for some clarity, I felt it might just give her a way to somehow justify her own actions. As I'm typing this I'm still in disbelief. I would bet the farm this has happened to our patrons while she is there and they were probably just as bewildered. Not sure Leah belongs in the customer service industry. Maybe she is the owner and feels she can cherry pick which patrons to serve. Hopefully that's the case as Leah is not good for St Elmo's bottom line. I would normally encourage anyone to experience St Elmo's but be careful of who is behind the bar. A server can without question enhance or spoil any experience. Good luck St Elmo's! read more

It's easily the dive-est dive bar in the county and it does not apologize for being so. If you're drinking in Bisbee, you already know this place is on your list. It's rowdy, bawdy, and just plain weird -- but really, that's Bisbee for you. Place was packed on a Friday night but people continued to pile in. Not a lot of young people, I'm afraid; mostly people in their late thirties and older. Beer selection is basic, but you're not going here for that. You're here to get hammered and people-watch. Bikers, army vets, drag queens, you name it: St. Elmo's is the place to meet new people and get shoved out of your comfort zone. I'm surprised there was karaoke on a Friday night, but at the same time I have never been to a bar where the patrons are so willing to sing along with you. Pool tables and a tiny dance floor further cement the dive bar experience. It's noisy, so you gotta speak up to even get service. No food, but there's plenty of other places to get your fix. St. Elmo's is for the brave, but if you want to raise hell and have fun, this is the place to do it. read more

My husband and I walked in, noticed the 90/10 creeper to non-creeper ratio, and stayed close to the door. The bartender was very rude and completely unhelpful. I asked for a mojito, she said I don't make mojitos. Ok...do you have any specials? We don't do specials. Can you recommend anything else for me to drink? Nope. Ok, well, thanks for all your help. We left. Not sure how they bring in all those people on a Saturday night with such a bartender. On a separate occasion, my husband wanted a quick shot. He said it was a different (friendlier) bartender who served him quickly and at a fair price. The two experiences combined give 2 stars - one horrible experience and one very short, decent experience. read more

I try to make my way here at least twice a month. Good scene, historic venue. The well drinks are fairly priced and well made. Music is fun and I love the local vibe. The stickers on the wall are great. It is supposably the oldest continuously running bar in the entire state of Arizona. That's pretty cool. To top it off, it's pet friendly. read more

If you are looking for nightlife in Bisbee, this is your place. With live music and an eclectic crowd, this was the busiest place on Brewery Ave on a Saturday night. We loved the live band and the large dance floor. The crowd was eclectic, as I mentioned, with bikers, cowboys and military boys from the nearby base...which may be a little scary for some, but it is harmless. We has a great time here. Our bartender was Darcy, a blonde with quite the body for her age. Plus she was friendly and made a good drink. Some of the local bikers came in and talked to us, one guy showed me a new bar trick. It's funny that they act like they're so tough but they're nice guys. The best part was when Moulin Rouge came on and Darcy got up in her fishnets and danced on the bar. Totally unexpected and hilarious. All of the bikers are in love with her. We tipped her for the show and everyone had fun. I'd totally go back. It's a little worn down since its been around so long, but worth visiting for sure! read more

Don't leave town without it. St Elmo's is my favorite place in Bisbee to have a drink. The place can get really rowdy, but there is a great sense of community for all. The interior is a classic dive bar, with the lots of interesting historic flair. There is often live music, typically rock and blues genre. I like that you can bring in food and kids during the daytime. All the staff are AWESOME and provide lots of laughs. Heather is a goddess who manages the busiest of weekend days with truly amazing skill and humor, plus she is a plethora of local knowledge. Fallon and Jackie are both super sweet and and keep the drinks flowing no matter how busy it gets. Head to St. Elmo's to meet nice and down-to-earth people who enjoy having a good time! This place rocks! The old crusties at the bar were fun to talk to. The bartender was very hospitable and tried very hard to make us happy. I was disappointed when we arrived to find they didn't serve food, as we had ridden our motorcycles 4 hours just to come here. The bartender rounded up a menu from a local Mexican restaurant and we had food brought to us within a few minutes. I don't think this is a regular thing, but the bartender did his best to see us happy. I found St Elmo's by accident back in 2003 (???). Have always wanted to go back. Last weekend I got to do it. Better than I remembered. If you like glitz and glamor, fake people, it's not for you. If you like Apple bee's and Chili's, don't bother dropping by. If you like to see if you can get past the velvet rope because you're wearing the latest fashion and you just lost ten pounds, go to Vegas or New York. If you like live local music in a bar that's been around since 1902. If you like a bar where you feel everyone in the place accepts you the way you are. If you like to dance but maybe you're not the best dancer. If you're sick of paying stupid prices for drinks......St Elmo's just might be for you. Bisbee, AZ is a cool town. So this place is a hoot! Bikers galore, as well as a good variety of locals from various walks of life. Didn't seem to be geared towards tourists at all. A ZZ Top look-alike will card you at the door, so have your I.D. prepared. It was cool to take in everything that was on the walls of this place - it's really piled up since it was started in 1902. There's a saying that the locals in Bisbee use: "Keep Bisbee Weird". Well, St Elmo bar is doing a great job of that! If you want to hang out and watch the most eclectic mix of people imaginable, this is your bar. Established in 1902, you could spend the evening just looking at the walls of the bar and reading all the signs and checking out the old photos. Or you can wander over to the live band area and watch people in their 20's dancing along a few in their 60's (wearing headbands and braids I might add) dancing to disco music that should have died (the music, not the people) long ago. Of all bars in Bisbee, this was the busiest and most entertaining. I enjoyed watching others do karaoke on a Friday night. This is a large bar and they have several bartenders, so it didn't take long for service. The drinks we ordered (vodka soda) weren't that potent. I'd come back here because it was lively though. Hit Bisbee Friday 9/28 at 2pm. The streets were relatively empty as were the bars/restaurants. We had to kill a couple hours before The Quarry opened for dinner, so we snuck into St. Elmo's for a few beers. Definitely a time machine full of eye candy, and the tunes are ok if you take over the TouchTunes machine. No table service as far as we could tell so you have to go to the bar to order. Not sure if they had food but it didn't appear so. If you like "interesting, old school" bars to visit, this is definitely one for you in Bisbee as long as the timing is right. Mid-afternoon during the week worked well for us. Sorry, but couldn't justify 5 stars on just the one short visit. read more

Dive bar. Well popular for good decent band to play while having a few drinks. This is a frequent bar by some locals but mainly tourist. In town, it is know to be the non casual bar. Expect elicit drugs to be offer as this bar is geared towards allowing local dealers to roam free into the bar and mingle with it's customers. Type of bar to keep an eye on your drinks for sure. Nevertheless, the attraction is the atmosphere provided by great music and live bands. Overall, not a chill or relax type of bar. Other bars in town offer a more comfortable atmosphere and ability to have a pleasant conversation with friends or family. This bar is okay if you want to have a semi wild time. read more
