Nurse Christen and ER Tech Sandra were warm, efficient, and personable when they checked in with me. Christen, whom I saw several times through the visit was consistent and helped me feel like she really had my back throughout. Radiologist Keith was equally warm and helpful, patiently explaining my CT procedure to me. And Dr Racey helped me work through my various ideas as to what might be going on while being absolutely direct and honest with his answers, including what he didn't know and couldn't confirm. He was also clear in his recommendation to me to do what was needed to rule out stroke completely, and set up an emergent MRI for me at Seton Hayes nearby. I was SO grateful for that. Once in an ER room, the nurse, Teresa(I believe) was very up front and told us everything they were going to do. I have never seen a medical team swarm around someone the way those nurses did my mom! It was awesome! The doctor on duty that day was Dr.Torey Elizabeth Alling, MD. She truly knows what to look for by "reading the room". The fact that my mom is almost 84 and had Flu A&B and pneumonia, Dr. Alling immediately went into action and drew a lot of blood, got a CATcscan and ECG. Turned out, my mom was in Afib! The Dr. admitted her right away and put her on oxygen and a breathing treatment, as her oxygen was low...due to the pneumonia. The first nurse we had was Bryant. He was helpful and kind and friendly. Our second nurse was Tommy (overnight nurse). Tommy was A+, 100% FANTASTIC! He truly listened to my mother's concerns on some of the meds that were prescribed to her and consulted with the doctor (Dr. Mac). They adjusted the medication to fit her needs and help her rest. WOW! Truly amazing care at Baylor, Scott & White. The morning nurse was Rumi and he was also very friendly and helpful! The staff here is concerned with their patients. My mom was asleep and Rumi was going to come to check on her, but waited because she was asleep. So nice since usually when you're in the hospital, the nurse will come in, turn the lights on and wake you up startled. They knew she hasn't been sleeping, so he let her rest. My mom was discharged with in-home PT. Dr. Mac is a caring and knowledgeable doctor and Dr. Alling was so wise to do all those tests, knowing the "perfect storm" my mom was experiencing for Afib or worse. I am thankful for this staff and wish them all good health and I encourage them to keep up the stellar work they are doing! I had a very disappointing experience at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center's Emergency Room. My…read moredaughter was crying in severe pain from what appeared to be a migraine or severe headache, and before deciding whether to check her in, I simply wanted to ask if the hospital had the appropriate equipment and specialists to treat her condition. If not, I was prepared to take her elsewhere. Unfortunately, the receptionist, Jessica, was on her phone when I approached. When I asked my questions, she was rude, dismissive, and spoke in a condescending tone. Rather than showing empathy or helping us understand our options, she responded, "This is an emergency room hospital," in a way that made it clear she didn't want to be bothered. As a parent with a child in tears and obvious pain, compassion and professionalism matter. Instead, I left feeling like my daughter would not receive the care or attention she needed. Because of that interaction alone, I made the decision to drive 40 minutes from Kyle to Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin. The difference in care was night and day. From the moment we arrived at Dell Children's, the staff was compassionate, attentive, and made us feel like my daughter's well-being truly mattered. I understand working in an emergency department is stressful, but there is never an excuse for treating worried parents and children with such a lack of empathy. First impressions matter, especially in healthcare. I sincerely hope Baylor Scott & White addresses this, because no family should feel discouraged from seeking care due to the attitude of the person greeting them.

I will say, if you're there long enough for a meal, it's going to be a frozen dinner that they throw in a microwave. The upside is you have an exact calorie and carb count, if that matters (I'm on insulin, I have to dose based on carb intake - they let me self administer since I'm on an insulin pump). At one point they apparently would order from restaurants, but that probably cut into the CEOs hush fund too much (joking) Thr care is great. The food is terrible (I mean... It's a frozen dinner). The bill will max out your deductible (and likely your out of pocket even on a HDHP). But they truly do care, and they've stayed in touch to see how I'm doing. An hour and a half later I called asking about my results and I was told "ah, someone should have called you unless they didn't have a reason to call haha... oh. you're positive for strep." It was not a great experience and they may be understaffed, I don't know, but it did not feel professionally run or like I was well taken care of.

Here are pertinent points from that letter: "* If you currently have an appointment scheduled after December 31st with Dr. XXXX, one of our staff will contact you to reschedule with another Seton physician, and ensure the smooth transition of your care. * We are also pleased to announce that XXXX XXXX XXXX, MD, Family Medicine will be relocating to Seton Family of Doctors at Hays and accepting new patients beginning January 14, 2019. * Alternatively, please feel free to contact us, (512) 504-0855, if you have any questions, would like to obtain a copy of your patient record, or choose to arrange transfer of your records to another physician." I didn't have an appointment scheduled but needed one so I called. I told them who I would like to see at the practice and they told me "no." They assured me that the letter clearly explained that I had to see the new doctor at the practice. I told them that them letter said nothing of the sort. Never mind the fact that I was due for a follow up before the new MD was seeing patients. I guess they figured a couple of weeks wasn't a matter of life and death. They were insistent. They were complete a--holes. And they still are. If you want any say in your care, go elsewhere. The one thing you will not find here is caring about what you want.

She is fantastic and we're glad to have her as our Primary Care Physician. She is the definition of what a Primary Care doctor should be. She familiarizes herself with your whole medical history and determines if you need to be examined further by a specialist. Then I found Dr. Wenzel... probably the very best Endocrinologist I've ever met. I left my last Diabetes doctor because I only saw the actual doctor twice in the year-1/2 I went there. Dr. Wenzel was very thorough, spent a good amount of time with me, and was kind enough to phone me (on a Saturday morning) to deliver the results of my lab work. Unbelievable! Needless to say. He's the ONLY endocrinologist I ever want to see. It's not just the wonderful Doctors at Seton, but also the Staff. From Reception to Nurses and PAs, you feel welcomed and cared for every visit. They also have their own Lab on site and it sure beats going to one of those places where you wait for a long time just to give a little blood. The Phlebotomist is the best I've ever seen. Never a bruise or sting. Smooth as glass. Seton also has the very best Patient Portal I've ever seen. It's easy to get a message to or from the Doctors, manage appointments, pay bills, and view test results. I just love this Medical Team and am happy to live close enough to use them exclusively.

Annie mentioned that there were many patients waiting, which was inaccurate, as only two people were in the waiting room. Then with each hand-off is a wait/hold time filled with a recording about all the medical procedures they offer, running in a loop, such that by the end, you are in more pain listening to the recordings while on hold than anything else.
