The new staff is rude. Had a virtual appointment but never got a call to start it. Tried to call the office but they were having phone problems all that day. When I finally got ahold of them a few days later I was told i would be charged a fee for missing appt. when i was there waiting for them to call. I was told i was a liar. read more

I still really like Dr. Glicrese, but his staff has significantly decreased. Unprofessional ladies. The wait times have increased. I waited an hour past my appointment time before I finally had to just reschedule. While waiting, no one checked on me or gave me an update as to what was going on. I've worked in health care and I've always been taught to let your patients know it won't be much longer (even if that isn't the actual truth) just to let them know you haven't forgotten about them. Well, my family has been going to Dr Gilcrease since 2003, 19 years. I have to say, when he first started up, i admired his bedside manner. He always went the extra mile in asking about how i was doing and catching up on all my ailments. When he moved and changed to the medical group all things changed. I never felt the staff was as friendly. It seemed cold and uncaring. My most recent issue has forced me to seek out another doctor. I needed a reference to a physiotherapy office so visited the nurse practioner. I got the reference after three calls to get them to fax it over. But as a backup to make sure i didnt have any actual damage, i had an xray at ARA Imaging. They should have called me within a day with the results. I waited several days. Called the office to temind them. Still no call. Went through this 3 times. Finally asked my therapy office to check and they called me back in 5 minutes with the results. That was rediculous. No follow through at all. No red flags or lists for them to finish. A complete failure of the office staff and no follow up by the doctors. His staff has given him a bad name. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Let me preface this by saying I've never actually seen Dr Gilcrease. Mostly just PAs so I can get my referrals to other doctors. I have stage IV cancer so most of my care comes from oncologist. The PA I saw today had no idea about my cancer. Like I've been seen by them for over 3 years now??? Is it not in my file. I was told I needed a mammogram which I responded my scans are taken care of. I felt bullied and belittled and what I said didn't really matter. Not to mention, the office staff is horribly rude and seems like they don't really care about any of the people coming to the office. Do yourself a favor and find a different doctor. Sad that my review is the same as so many others. Rude staff. Treat you like you're a child. Refused to do an emergency refill on my psychiatric medication (which you can't abruptly stop taking it or you can die) right when the pandemic started. They claimed they couldn't do it, which is bs. I ended up getting everything refilled at CVS instead of my regular pharmacy because normal people in a medical setting understand the word 'emergency.' I realize you have to go in for med checks every year, but maybe I didn't feel like sitting in a waiting room during a freaking pandemic we knew nothing about!! The best part is that my 'wellness check' was me getting weighed, blood pressure taken, and for some reason an eye exam with a plastic spoon thing. That's why I had to go in instead of them considering my safety in this pandemic. These people are employed when organized people with real compassion are not. I know of three people who have dropped him because of his staff alone!! Dr Gilcrease is amazing. He had literally saved my life twice in less than twenty years. He's so nice. He's so good to talk to. Explains everything he's doing. He's even drawn me pictures before so I understand everything he was telling me My latest adventure with them is that I've been sent a bill three times now. I called all three times to ask what it was for before I start just handing over money. No one EVER called me back. One day I went in there and not only did they tell the whole waiting room what amount I owed, they told everyone what it was for!!! WTF. I've been in arguments with these people. Literal arguments. And don't try and ever leave a message for Dr Gilcrease because they won't give it to him. I hate having to leave. I'll be stunned if one of these... people doesn't get on here and start bitching. They sure as hell aren't doing their jobs so they have plenty of time. When I was supposed to have my online appointment I had someone at the front desk trying to get my information that the website with the patient portal said they had everything on file. So I missed my appointment because these unorganized fools can't get their paperwork straight I'm done. Thought about sending Dr Gilcrease a certified letter and letting him know that his staff is awful. I can't believe he doesn't know this yet. I imagine his staff is hiding these complaints from him to save their jobs. The weird thing is that the bad reviews are all about his staff!!! Where do I begin? Hands down the worst experience I've had at a doctor's office. The two ladies at the front desk are beyond rude and unprofessional. After my dealings with them today, I believe it's from a total lack of intelligence. In short, because the length of their abusive patient behavior is too much to tell, I filed a complaint with my insurance company and left to go to the Redi Clinic at HEB. I started going to Gilcrease Medical Group when I first moved to Austin in 2009. Dr. Viscardi was an excellent Doctor and the staff at the Buda location seemed ok. Upon Dr. Viscardi leaving the practice I was transferred to Dr. Gilcrease. I can say that I absolutely have no problems with him, so far. On the other hand, his Kyle office staff is less than desirable. On numerous occasions I have been ignored by the ladies who work the front desk and the clerical Supervisor Julie Ramero needs to get her attitude in check. I've been in the field of Customer Service for over 20 years and like Ms. Ramero, a Supervisor as well. She is the rudest person I have come across in a while. I've noticed other comments and this office staff seems to have a history of being rude. Too bad Dr. Gilcrease doesn't recognize that he is and will be losing a lot of patients because of them. read more

Again, took forever to be seen and not to mention I sat on the floor because there were not enough seats.. Patients were overflowing, complaining about how long they had been there. As I sit here it has been 1.5 hours since my appt and I have still not been seen. Oh not to mention I got here 15 minutes early..This place has horrible time and patient management skills... Despite my warnings to avoid this place, my husband misunderstood and made an appointment here. He was newly diagnosed with diabetes by Nurse Practitioner Julia and she prescribes him Metformin. She tells him take this and follow up in three months.... Are you kidding me???? You prescribe him a very high dose of metformin twice a day to someone who has NEVER taken any diabetic medication and you don't even tell them to buy a glucometer or to check their blood sugar? She did not write a script for a glucometer or the test strips so he paid out of pocket. She didn't tell him the signs of low blood sugar which if left untreated could leave to coma or death. Not to mention what could happen while driving his car if he didn't know what was going on. I can't say enough to avoid this place if at all possible. Horrible and unsafe. read more

My mom has been going to this office for her check ups since she moved to Buda about 4 years ago, and even though the doctors and nurses are friendly, the front desk/ receptionists are NOT. They are Never friendly when you have a question to ask them. My mom needed her high blood pressure meds refilled so she called to see if they could do it over the phone. The RX had expired and they asked her how she was getting them refilled and basically accused her of forging the RX. They acted like she was trying to fraudulently fill pain meds or something?? It was for high blood pressure... Needless to say she will NOT be back and will spread the word about how the receptionists treat their patients. read more

I am sitting in the lobby of Dr. Gilcrease office while I wait for my wife to be seen over 45 minutes late. It is well past 5pm and the office manager and a staff member is in the lobby gossiping about their staff members and discussing grievances without a care in the world. This is freaking nuts and completely unprofessional for both the inability to manage the appointment times and the staff gossip being freely spewed about. My family and I have been seeing Dr. Gilcrease since 1999. Then he moved to Kyle and joined a medical group. The staff was all changed and now they are all rude, uncaring, horrible people. The office manager will argue with you. His admin doesn't verify insurance correctly and I ALWAYS end up with a bill that is over $125, even though I have phenomenal, insurance that still uses a co-pay. They don't answer phones, and they will NEVER respond to prescription refill requests. On top of all of these issues, there always seems to be a wait of more than 30 mins past the appointment time. I wish I could keep seeing Dr. Gilcrease because I love him. His confused, unorganized, unprofessional, & uncaring staff just isn't worth dealing with. Sorry Dr. G. Dr. Gary Gilcrease is our family doctor. We have been patients of the good doctor for over 10 years. It's not just that his location is convenient for where we reside. Dr. Gilcrease is pleasant to speak with, and he listens to what you are saying. He has answered every question I have asked him about my health. He likes to converse on many subjects. He is a very good musician so that probably helps with him being pleasant. My wife and I have been using this practice for over 5 years. During this time we have seen a doctor only one time, other visits we have always seen a nurse practitioner. My wife has been sick all day and night, could not hold anything down. We called this morning, Monday 9/11/17, to make an appointment. We were told that there was nothing available and that we should visit on of these local minor emergency facilities. Our insurance policy has a $50 copay for a doctor visit and a $300 copay for an emergency room. So we never/seldom see a real doctor and they are not available when we really need them, so we have decided to fire them. We have changed to another general practice. read more

I had to wait 3 weeks to get in as a new patient, and when I did finally go in for my appointment they told me they were not comfortable seeing a baby and I needed to find a pediatrician. I came down with a bad case of strep throat just a couple of weeks ago and decided to go to Dr. Gilcrease for two reasons: A) My wife grew up going to see him and always recommended. B) We called ahead and they said I would only pay $73 without insurance. We hopped in the car and start driving towards Buda from downtown Austin. When we arrived I stood at the reception area thinking I would be greeted, but instead stood there while being obviously ignored by the receptionist staff. Was greeted nice enough after waiting but then was told I had to pay $109 instead of $73 since I had not been in to see the doctor for a while. I was charged $30 extra because I dont ever go to the doctor unless it is something that really needs to be seen by a doctor. So I fill out all the paperwork that I already filled out but that paperwork probably was thrown away by the staff because I am not sickly enough. My appt was at 11, I didn't see the doctor till 11:45. Was taken to a room by a nurse named Debbie (or Roxy both were equally rude) and coincidentally she was not at all friendly either. She began by swabbing my extremely sore throat WITHOUT telling me she was going to do so. I was told to open my mouth and my thinking was that she is going to look at my throat for symptoms. Nope, she pulled a quick one and shoved the swab down my painfully sore throat like she was digging for gold. After gagging and feeling like my throat had just been stabbed, I proceeded to tell her that I didn't think a swab was necessary given all the symptoms point to strep. I asked if she could talk to the doctor about not having to do expensive lab tests (especially since I already was charged $30 more than told) because it was clearly strep throat. She said that was not possible and started walking out the door while I am still talking to her and shut the door while I was mid sentence. At this point I look to my wife and our 3 year old daughter and just laugh because thats what the staff are.....laughable. The doctor, Julia, was awesome and understood that I didn't need to do a swab test given that I had all the symptoms of Strep Throat. I was given my prescription and left feeling conflicted about the whole experience because the doctor was very nice and professional. Well I ended up having to call the office 5+ times to figure out when and where my prescription was going to and was HUNG UP ON because one of the ladies did not like my tone after I was passed around the office without any real conclusion to the whereabouts of my prescription. Overall just a extremely unprofesional experience that I would not wish on anyone else. read more

Amazing that the first two posts I read are exactly how I feel. I have never met a more caring and intelligent doctor, but his staff is the equivalent of a call center in the bad part of town. His nurse tries to run his show, and not in a helpful manner. The front desk is as bad as it gets... My appointments get written down on cards, sent as a call reminder, etc., but when you show up you are informed that you do not have an appointment. Your pharmacy refill faxes go unanswered, as does their phone much of the time. The door is usually locked for the first 15 minutes or more after opening or after lunch. I would be willing to bet poor Dr. Gilcrease hasn't a clue. My family and I have gone elsewhere. It is unfortunate, as he is genuinely concerned for his patients. read more

Very disappointed - I've given them several shots and it just gets worse. First, I've never even seen a doctor there. The PA is a nice guy and has been just fine for most of my visits, but just because you have seen the PA before, doesn't mean that they should ASSUME that you prefer him over a doctor. Once I saw the PA the first time, I was stuck with him. And even when I had a problem he couldn't figure out, he sent me to a specialist without consulting with one of the doctors on staff. The office staff is less than helpful and somewhat discourteous. (See above problem with getting an appointment with an actual doctor) The last appointment, I arrived 10 min early and waited almost an hour before seeing the PA. The whole time, the office staff gossipped and carried on like no one was in the waiting room. It would be nice to let the patients know if/when you are behind schedule, that way our days can be planned accordingly. I had to arrange for someone to pick up my child at the last minute because of this. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Gilcrease for a few years, because of convenience at first, and out of loyalty after moving to Austin. What a mistake. I have NEVER once been taken on time, with an average wait time of 30+ minutes. Dr Gilcrease, himself, is wonderful, but the staff is something else. I'll quickly touch on a recent experience that is the final straw: After waiting for 30 min into my appt time, i finally asked when i would be seen, only to be told that it would be another 30 min and that someone scheduled my type of appt at the wrong time. I stayed calm, reschedule and left. The same girl called me not even 5 min later, telling me that i had to be seen for my yearly check up and could not just get a prescription refilled. The next available appt (that i could make work) was over a week later. She said they were doing their best to "accomodate" me, as if it were my fault. I started to complain and she just put me on hold while i was speaking. After 5 min on hold, the office manager, Russell, picks up and has no idea who he's talking to or what for. I'm already upset and trying to reschedule my appt while he continues to interrupt me. When telling him the next available appt times didn't fit my work schedule, he told me to "get my priorities straight" if I wanted to be seen. He also told me that it was my fault that the dr's offices aren't getting as much money as they should when i told him i pay a lot of money for medical insurance. I simply am baffled at not only the lack of customer service, but the nerve of a human being to treat someone else like that. I will be 100% happy to give someone else money, even if i'm only treated 50% better. read more

After calling several times until 8:05 am and still getting the after hours operator I then had to leave a message. I did this by providing all the necessary info they need and told by the recorded message that someone would call me back. Well, they sure did at 2 pm! Dr. Gilcrease is still the same (still good, still busy, but obviously willing to take the time to talk to you). Location has changed (behind Discount Tire, in Kyle). But his staff has gotten worse. Don't bother to show up early... because they don't care about you or your time and you will be waiting for 45 minutes. read more

Terrible customer service. I had 3 appts cancelled on me consecutively, no one ever calls me back to reschedule. They expect you to take the time to do it, but NO ONE ever answers the phone. Every time my pharmacy sends a refill request, it goes ignored and unanswered. Now Im without medication, and unable to make an appointment because I cant get anyone on the phone. I have been going to Gilcrease Medical Group for about 3 years. I've never been impressed. I switched to Gilcrease after my other doctor opted to size down his practice and I had a close friend that recommended Dr. Gilcrease. I have actually never seen Dr. Gilcrease. I see one of his PA's and it has taken some time for me to feel comfortable with her. The office staff just sucks. I have had an issue with them nearly every time. They are rude and treat you with very little dignity and very little respect. It's so sad that the very first impression you get is that when you check in. I have complained and they said they would talk to her about it. Yeah, I'm pretty sure they could have cared less about my complaint. It's actually quite surprising that the staff is still there after all the complaints I have read on here and talked with others. The only reason I haven't switched doctors yet is that I don't usually go that often, and I only think about it after I already need a refill or an appointment. I wish they could get it together. I hear great things about Dr. Gilcrease. However, I cannot confirm any of them. read more

I've been going here for 10 years, Dr. Gilcrease is great! His nurse practitioner Monica is the greatest as well!! I highly recommend either of them. Now if your going here for Ideal Protein then you are going to see Juile...DONT DO IT!!! Dr. Gilcrease has been the primary physician for myself and my family for over 14 years. He is a wonderful Doctor. My issue is not with the Doctor, it is with his horrible, unprofessional staff. WOW. They are terrible. The saddest part is, Dr. Gilcrease is completely unaware of it. In November of 2014, my husband had the misfortune of meeting Miranda, the Doctor's front office check-in person. She badgered him in front of other patients in the waiting room over a $28 dollar delinquent charge from a statement back in January of this year. My entire family has been seeing Dr. Gilcrease for over 14 years and we have never been late on a payment, or been delinquent in any fashion. When my husband had the nerve to question the $28 charge and it's validity, little miss rude, I mean Miranda, told him to "have a seat sir, we'll have to see whether or not we can work this out." In other words, SHE was going to decide if he should see the Doctor or not, over $28 dollars!!! Wow. She's on a huge power trip. Miranda finally decided she would let him see the Doctor, provided he sign a form consenting to a lawsuit if he doesn't pay the $28.00. He was mortified. When he made it into the back area, he told the vitals nurse what happened. She seemed unaffected, and said she tries not to talk to the girls up front too much. She also acknowledged that they get "a lot of complaints about those girls." When I personally called the office to complain, Miranda was rude, a liar, refused to patch me through to Dr. Gilcrease, made excuses about being new, told me it's not her fault, blamed my husband, blamed the billing department.....I could go on for an hour about our unpleasant conversation. She finally (reluctantly) put me through to the office manager, who is kind but clueless. He also refused to put me in touch with Dr. Gilcrease directly, obviously protecting his incompetent staff. My last resort is to let Dr. Gilcrease know what is going on while he is not looking vis this poor review. I will be shopping for another doctor because I can't stand the thought of going back there and listening to Miranda at the front desk belittle me or my family while she text's on her phone and chomps on her gum. After reading some of the past reviews I felt compelled to write one of my own. I have been seeing Julia Huo for almost a year. Julia takes her time, asks pertinent questions and then takes the time to listen. She is one of the best medical professionals I have seen (and I have seen MANY medical professional over the years). Her medical advice begins with the least invasive and if that does not work she will continue until a solution is found. As far as wait time, there has only been one time that I had to wait more than 20 minutes, otherwise, I have been seen within either at my appointment time or shortly after. Mary Alice, Julia's nurse, is wonderful. I have found all the staff courteous, professional and helpful. read more

I've been taking my 9 year old son to this practice (in Kyle) for almost three years now and never once got the chance to meet Dr. Gilcrease himself. The nurse practitioner was ok. Absolute horrible, unprofessional, RUDE office/front desk staff. Miranda in particular. Setting appointments is a nightmare. That is when they answer the phone or call back after repeated messages. A good example is when I attempted to schedule an appt but their system was down which seems to happen a lot. I gave her all of my son's info for a call back. She then calls me back to tell me that because my son had not been there for a while they no longer have his file and will need to be established as a new patient. I told her that he had just been there for a cold only three months prior. I insisted she look into it further but she preferred to argue with me. I finally asked for her supervisor. I gave him my feedback regarding the call with Miranda and her horrible attitude. It went in deaf ears. I proceeded to give him my son's info and he was able to find his file immediately. Rather than set the appt. directly with me, he placed me on hold and sent me back to Miranda. I thought maybe he would speak to her and ask her to apologize for her rudeness. Instead she got back on the phone to insist that I gave her my son's wrong birth year which would have made him 54 years old if she would have done the math. She gave me a date and time and immediately hung up the phone while I was still talking. This is only one of many bad experiences. They blatantly ignore you when you show up as you stand there looking at them awkwardly waiting for them to acknowledge your presence. I've spoken to the Office Manager several times to give him my feedback but clearly no one is being held accountable for the lack of customer service in that office. As much as I hate to start over with a new practice, I'm breaking up with Dr. Gilcrease. read more
