Granted the "classes" are about 3-4 kids average but the classes are all at the same time as everyone else and in a small section of the lane. This is not conducive to learning for the other pitfall, the overstimulation and inability to accommodate children with special needs. Trying to learn to swim in a loud, busy and crowded pool is daunting. No dig at the staff, they are doing the best they can given the circumstances presented. Maybe Foss can carve out some time and space for kids with non-neurotypical or special needs.

The splash pad stays open if you get too hot or for it the little ones that can't sit still for very long! (Like my son lol). Come early if you want a foldable chair for sun bathing, the place fills up very quick, but there's always usually some room in the back grassy area for you to lay down a towel and cozy up with a good book. If you get hungry, run to the snack bar and they've got multiple options for hot dog toppings and even a meal deal with chips and a drink! The staff are always so kind and they also have life jacket rentals for FREE! (with admission) We will absolutely be spending more hot summer days here!

I want a fairly cheap entry fee and lots of seating and a decent sized pool. That's all. Highland has this, and more! Parking, shade, a decent bathroom and concessions. You can bring your own food in. Plenty of space for the little ones to play in the two small pools/splash pads. A good diving board for the bigger kids. (The drop slides aren't really drop slides per se, and they are best for shorter kids) A big water slide...that's truly only ok but who cares. A HUGE POOL. With a HUGE DEEP END. No lifejackets in the deep end, and still a large area where your tweens+ can easily touch. Bring a pool friendly throwing item. (no nerf, just light weight stuff that won't hurt if you get bonked. The lifeguards will tell you)

That's right. They have a different filtration method here using sphagnum moss which significantly reduces the amount of chlorine in the water. There is nothing better then getting out of a pool and NOT smelling like a chlorine tablet. Less burning of the eyes and itching of the skin. A win all around. Plus they open @ 6:30am some days for you early morning risers and open it up from 5:30-7pm on other days (see website for schedule). As a parent, this really helped relieve some of the stinging of the sticker shock. They started taking teacher consistency, more seriously, and I think it is made a huge difference. No more cycling of teachers as much. It's a warm pool, warm locker room, and Good curriculum where your kid will make progress. There's lots of repeating of levels, but that's true at any swim school. To avoid that, you just need your kid to have tons of pool time outside of lessons. They have a few family open swim times a month but not a lot, you almost need a gym membership with pool access such as at the YMCA in addition to foss lessons if you want to avoid repeating lots of levels. It's still crazy expensive, but you get what you pay for. I have yet to find another swim place that can produce the results that Foss can.

Our little guy was a bit scared the first class (groups of 4-5 kids plus 1 parent per kid), but we kept going and the teacher kept working with him and now he loves swim class and even dances around in the lobby when we get there. The pool is free to use and open from 1:00pm to 7:00pm, Tuesday through Sunday (closed Mondays). When you arrive, staff will check your bags and ask if it's your first time--just part of their safety and welcome process. The pool area includes shallow zones for kids, lap lanes, and a grassy space for lounging. Be sure to bring a towel or chair for seating. There are lockers available, but they don't lock, so it's best to bring only what you need. A few helpful tips: 1) 10-15 minute safety breaks happen every hour, so be prepared for short pauses in swimming. 2) No food is allowed inside the fenced pool area, but there's space just outside to picnic or snack. However, when I was there, I spotted a food truck (ice cream!) near the street (perfect on a hot day!). 3) There's also a playground and tennis courts nearby. 4) Restrooms and changing areas available onsite. It was a refreshing spot for a dip on Saturday!
