Shoreview Community Center gets 5 stars! I went in not expecting much but I was blown away by how…read moremuch fun there was. The waterpark was the highlight. That waterslide with the lights and music? Awesome! It's a one of a kind experience. Beyond the waterpark the playground was also great. It's not your average playground; it's big, well designed and has tons of opportunities for kids to explore and play. What really makes Shoreview Community Center stand out is the community. They offer so much more than just a pool and playground. From the fitness center to the skatepark they have created a space for all interests and ages. It's clear they have invested in making a valuable resource for everyone.

If I could give this zero stars I would! I took my kids…read morehere for a simple swimming outing, but the experience turned into something really upsetting due to both the environment and the staff's lack of action. After swimming we sat in the seating area while I gave my kids some snacks. A visibly intoxicated woman sat next to us and began making inappropriate disturbing comments directed at my children. I initially tried to ignore her hoping she would move along but the situation quickly escalated. She stood over my infant in their car seat which felt threatening and completely unacceptable. I repeatedly asked her to back away from my kids because I had no idea what she might do in her condition. Instead of stepping in staff and security stood by and watched the situation unfold. Even as the woman continued yelling using profanity and attempting to get closer to my children who were clearly frightened no one intervened or made any effort to de-escalate or remove her. This place not only failed to provide a safe, family friendly environment but the complete lack of response from staff made the situation far worse. It was an extremely distressing experience and I would not recommend this facility to families expecting basic safety and support.

We have been coming to the Blaine FOSS since our eldest daughter was 6 months old. Our daughter…read moreloves water and she developed some good skills at FOSS. She's 6 years old now. Facility is nice and employees are great, what's not so great is, the evaluation system. I understand it's some what subjective to who's doing the evaluation, but the general goal shouldn't be to maximize as much revenue as they possible can, rather considered your child's skills. It feels like the pass/repeat/fail all depends on how many kids they have registered and if they have available room or not, definitely your child's skill set isn't the primary factor. Exhibit A: our daughter tried North Wolf swimming club and passed with flying colors. She just wasn't used to the coach style learning and she was intimidated with coach yielding to other kids, she wasn't ready for that. We decided to continue with FOSS. They kept her in the same class for 3 consecutive seasons and the excuses were, she needs to work on her "breathing" or she needs to work on her hands! This is a girl that swamped the whole Olympic size swimming pool back and forth for her try out! Later we discovered they didn't have enough student registered for the next up session and the existing class is over capacity! Exhibit B: They placed a new student in their group, whom happens to be a girl my friend goes to school with. She never attended swimming lesson but she ended up in the same class as our daughter! Now you have kids with high varying degree in their skill sets and our daughter ends up not getting enough attention the instructor focuses more in monitoring others and helping others. I don't like singling out employee as they get the over arching theme instructions from the corner offices, but Alexander, floor manager, took it to the next level when I tried to approach her with our over all concerns! Her general responses was, "you telling me your concern doesn't change how we grade" paraphrased! So, this is our last session and we are taking our daughters to a different place where they can learn and excel!! PS: they charge us ~$250 per season. roughly we spend ~$750 to learn the same skill sets, the pattern has been repeat x3 per each session/season!

We just found out tonight that the average child takes each level 2-3 times. At $225 per level, we…read morehave spent about $4,000 and our son is not even 5. At this rate, his swimming lessons will cost more than 1 year of college tuition. If Foss would be up front and honest about this in the beginning, maybe people would have more to consider when picking where to sign their kids up for lessons. I am disappointed with them not only because I feel like it's a pyramid scheme, but also because each lesson they "start over" and my child gets bored. I also don't like that they test halfway through the session so if your child improves and passes at the end, they still have to repeat the class. Overall, there are less expensive options out there that are just as effective and not trying to scam you into paying for 3 sessions each level. I would rather spend my $14,000 for his college education then overpriced swim lessons.

He failed and was told he could not continue. The tests were done in a punishing way and under threat of failing. He has passed the brick test at three other locations with plenty of time. The instructor did not have any empathy or customer service. Pool does not have any natural light and is colder than normal. There was mildew on all the caulk around the pool. I love that they don't charge you joiners fee and you can buy your membership several different ways. You can pay for a day pass, punchcard (certain amount of times), or by the months increments (1,3,6,12). A day pass I think is only $5. They also have free nights for anyone who lives in Brooklyn center on Saturday evenings. You are able to use both the pool and the fitness room it's from 5pm to 7pm. I originally bought a 10 inch pass. I liked it so much. I'm planning to now getting a year membership. It's a lot less crowded than other gyms . At least in the evenings. I've never been there other times of the day. I haven't had chance to do the group fitness yet, but I'm looking forward to trying it. I'm also planning to sign up for some swim lessons this year. I would love to learn this would be for summer.

It isn't Great Wolf Lodge, it is a manageable size, and has all the things you need - including nachos with the terrible but delicious cheese (that is so wrong yet so right). Playground, basketball, volleyball, yoga, exercise equipment, etc. are all offered and more. But it is the lap pool and swimming I'm writing about that is so awesome. A lightly chlorinated pool. That's right. They have a different filtration method here using sphagnum moss which significantly reduces the amount of chlorine in the water. There is nothing better then getting out of a pool and NOT smelling like a chlorine tablet. Less burning of the eyes and itching of the skin. A win all around. Plus they open @ 6:30am some days for you early morning risers and open it up from 5:30-7pm on other days (see website for schedule). Plus if you got the toddlers and young kids, there is the water park, 2 water slides, and a shallow pool to get them acclimated. Me likey.
