On a recent Saturday I realized the Southdale Y had not recovered from Covid, it was time to end a 20+ year relationship Of the treadmills, 2 were of 20 were tagged as needed repairs and two others should have been out. The software change from last summer is missing functionality that had been there prior, not kinks functionality, it just doesn't work Multiple request for assistance get different answers, I think my count was at 4 when I realized this was not worth it. Talk to a trainer, talk to the help desk, not our problem, send an email to this address. I found it was time of a change and the Southdale Y didn't seem willing to. Not worth the cost, spend more for Lifetime or less at the multiple alternatives.

Most impressive of all: the rooftop pools, bar and restaurant. It's truly one of the highlights of the city in my mind. Relax in one of the hundreds of lawn chairs, or grab lunch with a friend in the table area. Enjoy poolside service right at your lawn chair or even directly from the pool. Since many people who focus on their bodies don't drink, I was curious about their "one drink at a time" rule. Turns out, there's an exception--if you order a chaser, you can have 8 oz of beer instead of a full 16 oz pint... for the same price. When I arrived, I ordered: * A glass of tepid water * A Jameson whiskey * A Guinness The bartender, who I know was hired with no prior experience and little training, served me a full pint of Guinness and then left for several minutes to handle something at the register. Meanwhile, I was getting thirsty. Beer doesn't quench thirst, so with a dry mouth, barely able to form words, I asked again for my water. She kindly brought it over. After I finally wetted my whistle, I asked about my Jameson. She told me I couldn't have it because I already had one drink. I asked if they served boilermakers. She said no. I asked if I could get a chaser with my shot. She said sure. Then she took my full Guinness, poured 8 oz into a glass, and dumped the rest down the drain. I tried to stop her, saying she should drink it herself or that I'd buy another chaser since my friend was joining me. But nope--she dumped it anyway. Now, onto my actual reason for coming to Lifetime in the first place--I was meeting a friend. When I checked in, I informed the man at the front desk that my friend would be coming to meet me and that she is autistic, so they should watch out for her when she arrived. He agreed. Yet when she showed up, she was told she couldn't come in because it was members only. Fair enough. But the real issue? She felt scared and uncomfortable because of their loud, stern voices. If I let them know in advance that she was coming and even gave them a heads-up about her needs, you'd think they'd handle the situation a little more professionally instead of making her feel unwelcome and anxious. So, here's my verdict: * If you're picky about service or don't like paying extra for chasers, you might want to avoid the bar. * If you're looking for good sushi, the salmon sashimi is well-priced and hits the spot. * If you're expecting considerate customer service, don't count on it. OFFERINGS: They offer private training (3 free sessions when you sign up), group fitness classes, swim workout classes, massage and more here. They even have a childcare area! ATMOSPHERE: I loved the vibe here! Peaceful music playing, not crowded at all (I did go at 4pm so probably best the evening rush), extremely nice updated bathrooms (with all-gender option), and well cared for equipment and amenities. They have a pool that is always open for lap swimming, hot tub and sauna. They have lots of cardio equipment and free weights. They also have olympic lifting gear including bumper plates. The trainers are top notch. I have taken Olympic weight lifting and boot camp at this location and have always had a blast. The inner courtyard makes for a great area to do incline or decline sprints or body weight workouts. This is my go to gym when I am in Minneapolis. The best part is they are a non profit and put all the money you pay into community development with an emphasis on empowering women and girls. What is not to love!

Buyer Beware: Our Experience with A Pool Day in Maplewood, Minnesota…read more We are sharing our personal homeowner experience with A Pool Day in Maplewood, Minnesota, so other potential pool buyers can make an informed decision before spending a significant amount of money. We hired A Pool Day based on their representations that they performed quality work and stood behind their product. In late 2022, we paid A Pool Day over $100,000 for an inground pool. Unfortunately, within months of installation, we began experiencing serious problems. In Spring 2023, an area near the swim out in the deep end caved in under the liner. When we contacted Chad Christner with A Pool Day, his response was essentially, "Well, you don't have to have this repaired." Since the area had caved in, of course we requested that it be repaired. The repair required A Pool Day to remove a significant amount of water, pull back the liner in that area, fill in the dirt, and repair the vermiculite. It is important to note that A Pool Day was also the company responsible for opening and closing our pool from Fall 2022 through Fall 2025. By early 2026, after only a few seasons of use, our pool failed and became completely unusable. When Chad Christner came out to look at the damage, he appeared to place blame on the paver company, even though the pool failure has nothing to do with our paver patio. He also stated that they experience approximately 4-5 pool failures per season. For a company that has only been in business since around 2020, that statement was very concerning to us. After repeated attempts to get answers and a path forward, we did not receive the timely follow-through we expected. On April 15, we sent A Pool Day an email expressing our frustration, including the fact that Chad had previously told us information would be provided by a certain date, but there was again no follow-up. We were also very troubled by a comment Chad made while standing in our garage, implying that because he believed we had a "nice house," we should simply be able to pay for the repairs ourselves. He had no knowledge of our finances or personal circumstances. In our opinion, that comment was unprofessional, offensive, and completely inappropriate. At this point, we decided not to move forward with A Pool Day due to our concerns about the quality of the work, lack of responsiveness, and overall handling of the situation. We hired an experienced leak detection company that has been in business for over 30 years, along with another pool company recommended by a realtor who sells multi-million-dollar homes in the area. We can also share the much higher quote we received from A Pool Day compared to the seasoned professionals we are now using. We paid for what we believed would be a quality pool and professional service. Instead, after only a few seasons, we were left with a failed, unusable pool, and no meaningful resolution from the company that installed and serviced it. In today's market, homeowners have many choices. Based on our personal experience, we would strongly caution others to think carefully before choosing A Pool Day for an inground pool installation or any other service they offer.
