Excellent tour. I had this on my things to do list and passed it in the morning. Since my other tour was short I decided to hit this up. I called just before 4 pm and the man said I would make the last tour. I was the only one but how sweet to let me go through. Malory was my guide and she did an excellent job. She was probably surprised at all the notes I was taking. I even had to have her spell some of the words. It is a little scary when you go to the door in the side of a mountain and it is pitch black. You only have to walk a few feet and then you enter another door to the cave. It can get cold and drops do fall on you so wear appropriate clothing or hats. You also have to go down (I think she said 73 steps) and the stairs are narrow. Wear good tennis shoes or boots. Very interesting cavern and this was my first. Interesting fact: Squire Boone is buried in the cavern. Truth and interesting story as to why. There are a lot of things to do but because I came late and spent an hour on the tour all the other shops were closed down. There is a large gravel parking lot, so you park wherever. They have animals you may feed too. This is at least a two-three hour visit, so get there by noon. I visited May 31, 2023. $24 entrance

Squire Bonnie caverns is a cool cavern tour located not too far from my hometown of Louisville that is an easy drive to make a day trip and hang out at. I've mainly been here on my daughters class field trips over the years and it may be my favorite place there class takes a field trip. Ten kids and adults have a blast. Whether it's the unique and fun gift shop, the actually cavern tour, the little playground area, the rock mining or even the friendly cats that roam the property. Our area is rich in cave territories so it's always neat to find places that stick our above the Rest give a lasting memory. Squire Boone caverns absolutely delivers in doing that. Fun times every time we have been

I accompanied my mom with her co-workers and 2nd grade class on a field trip to Squire Boone Cavern. I hadn't been there since I myself was in elementary school, so I must admit I was little excited to be going back after all these years. I was a bit nervous for my mother to tour the cave since in order to exit you need to climb 74 stairs and she has a bad knee, but more on that later! When we arrived, after meeting an employee to make the payment for the field trip, we split the kiddos into groups to begin our day. We started with candle dipping. The kids got to see a demonstration on how the employee could make hundreds of candles simultaneously and then they got to dip a candle of their own. They were absolutely thrilled to be able to do this fun activity and have a souvenir to take home. We next went to the lye soap demonstration. Because it is such a lengthy process, the obviously couldn't make their own, but it would have been nice for them to be able to use some of the soap or maybe get a sample. No freebies here, but they do sell it very inexpensively (I think $1 a bar). Next we headed to the cave. We were given a headset at the gift shop to be able to hear our guide and we were told it takes about an hour for the cave tour. We had a brisk walk through the forest and the we entered the door to the cave. Being in the cave was a nice reprieve from being outside as it was about 56 degrees inside and much warmer than outside. The formations were beautiful but there are a lot of steps both up and down, so this activity is not ideal for those with mobility issues. I was very proud of my mother, she soldiered on and made it through! The cave exits into the gift shop which I just admit is very moderately priced. I quickly grabbed some rock candy for the whole class then excited because the older lady running the gift shop seemed annoyed that the kids (who were well behaved and had souvenir money) were in the shop. We then ate lunch at the picnic tables. With this being a year round attraction, it would be nice if they had an enclosed pavilion for lunches as it was unseasonably cold that day. We wrapped up our trip with the kids mining for fools gold. They got some cool gems and stones to take home from this stop and we had a bus full of happy campers on our way home!

Lots of fun activities, great for family and really good eats, which was a nice unexpected find. Chicken salad is delicious and Bbq was too. There was a weird cornbread corndog with a muffin shape stuffed with chopped wieners, but the taste was good and perfectly fine for kids if you sell them it is a corndog. Tour in cave takes about an hour, you have to descend a spiral wet staircase to go in and to get out. Lots to see and hear about from the guide. Chance to dip candles, mine for gold and just spend some quality time outside walking around. Ask for the mill demo.

Gorgeous location! Came for the cave tour and was not disappointed!! Beautiful cave and great tour guide. We went to Marengo Caves after and Squire Boone was much cooler! Squire Boone Road ends at the caverns so keep going down the road even if your GPS thinks you have arrived!!

At times during the tour, I felt like I was in a seance, as she called out to "sweet spirits" and asked that they turn off the lights and such. I consider myself pretty open, but this was not what I was expecting. Patty and one teenage girl along on the tour too, brought ghost meters, which "picked up" several during the tour. The teenage girl and her parents were into it, but it just wasn't my thing. Reservation is done via phone. I tried several days to book the tour, the voice mail was full, but finally was able to get an answer the day before the trek. She said that sometimes there are large parties that show up and completely fill up the tour. So I went ahead and pre-booked our spots, which were $15 each. The tour started at Old Talbot Tavern at 8pm. I was surprised to walk up and see maybe 40ish people already there to take the trek too, so it's popular. It didn't appear that anyone was turned down though. We started outside and Patty talked a bit about her past and how she used to manage Old Talbot Tavern. Then we went in the tavern, and the upstairs Jesse James room. I had already been in there, and it's spooky up there, even in the daylight. That's where she started talking and trying to get the ghosts to respond. The amount of people on the tour was so large, that a few people were out in the hallway area. From there, we went into an upstairs room/conference like are where we were able to sit down while she dimmed the lights and summoned the ghost to turn out the light and communicate. The next stop was out in front of Jailers Inn and by that time, even though there was one more stop, we had enough and cut out early.

Also, unlike the national park, Diamond Caverns is first-come first-served with no reservations. I just visited the area for the second time, this time we had a lot of family members including small children. We did the early morning Mammoth Cave beginner-level tour and then went straight over to Diamond Caverns for their tour. Everything else in the national park was sold out for the day, but we went straight onto a Diamond Cavern tour with no wait and a group of 14 of us. The tour guide was very patient with the bunch of small children in our group. Overall, I highly recommend Diamond Caverns if you are in the area and interested in taking an hour-long tour that includes a lot of steps to get up and down to/from the caverns. There is some neat local history included as well. There's a full gift shop with beverages and restrooms available on site. No food, drinks, or bags of any kind are allowed in the caverns.

This museum gives visitors several slices of that history, from bourbon and whiskey to racing to the Civil War and the tobacco industry. One of my favorite permanent exhibits is on the second floor. It's a room dedicated to Kentucky bourbon and whiskey called the Bourbon Bottle Hall. It's just a bunch of bottles of whiskey and bourbon on backlit white shelves, but it feels supernatural to step into the room and be surrounded by all of the different bottles. You got everything from your Elijah Craigs to your Pappy Van Winkles. What else? There were Kentucky sports mascot costumes on display, a life-sized wax statue of Colonel Sanders holding a bucket of his Kentucky Fried Chicken with its 11 herbs and spices, a little play area for children, a display of German toy soldiers, a display of costumes made by local students, and lots of other interesting things to look at. The Frazier is good for all ages, but it's mostly a "looking" museum, so there aren't too many interactive things to touch, which is why it might not hold the attention of really young kids. My tween and teenagers liked it, but they were done within about 30 minutes. It's a small museum, but I think it has a lot of cool stuff in it and definitely worth a visit.
