I loved Tioga Falls. The south end of Louisville and the counties next to it does not really get the recognition it deserves. Tioga is a straight shot down Dixie going toward Fort Knox. The hike is nice but it is very steep so you will get a good work out. You pass train track and there is a waterfall at the top so there are a lot of opportunities to get some cool photos.

It's short and simple but not terrible. Before you know it, as Everglow would say... "You're so Dun Dun." I'm glad Fort Knox opened part of this area up. When walking along the trail, it doesn't take long to understand why it was possibly used for training in the past. Varying elevations, sightlines, with plenty of rocks to poke your feet along the trail and crawl across. The falls and stream add to the terrain. As you arrive closer to the falls, you might hear training over the hill as well. We heard tanks on the day we went. I'd advise you to pay attention to the rainy weather. The more rain we've had, the more gushing the falls are. Even on low-flow days, it's relaxing. There are plenty of signs marking what you should and shouldn't do. I'm sure there are a few cameras out there somewhere. This is a short trip from Louisville but if you want a quick hike with the potential for a neat waterfall, this is the trail for you. There is a small hill near the beginning but I'd rate this trail as a beginner trail. Anyone should be able to complete this trail and if you can't... well, you should work out more. I posted a picture of the parking lot near the trailhead. I think it can hold maybe 20 cars. If it's full, there are plenty of spots in the immediate area. The beginning of the trail dead-ends quickly and directs you out to the road. You walk down the road a little further... an odd church is on that road before you make it to the initial hill you have to walk up. Once at the top of the hill, you cross railroad tracks, and continue on with the trail. I didn't see anyone walking across the bridge(because you're not supposed to) but I did see people walking in the opposite direction along the tracks. I'm not sure if there's anything worthwhile to see in that direction. I might check it out the next time. If you want a quick hike, check it out but don't expect to spend all day out there.

How did I not know about this place? My son and his girlfriend hiked here a few weeks ago. After sending me pics I could not wait to go. The trail is steep if you plan to travel to waterfall. What great exercise and views. It was great to spend some time outdoors. The weather was perfect. Be sure when visiting to make sure there has not been any rain, the trail can be super muddy. I can't wait to try a different trail during our next visit.

This is a really fun walking trail experience in West Point Kentucky. My family and I stopped in here late summer and did the hike and it was a fun experience and we will be going back soon check it out

Easy 2 mile hike. About 650ft elevation, pretty scenery, good for beginners. Overall a good first hike for our season.

Tioga Falls Trail is a nice hike. There's plenty of beauty to be seen in the natural surroundings, and it's cool to hike up and across the railroad bridge. I especially enjoyed the short wooden bridge at the start of the hike that cross a small stream. It's really beautiful. This trail is short and simple. You'll go uphill a lot of the time, but it's easy to traverse. I would recommend hiking shoes or boots, but I saw folks wearing everything from flip flops to dress sandals, and they all made it. Part of the trail was closed during our visit, and it appears to have been closed for some time. It's a bit disappointing, because you have to make part of the hike on a paved road. Once we reached the falls we heard some people talking about taking other trails there, but those trails are definitely not marked and/or they're closed, and people were just going on them anyway. We weren't familiar with the area, so we stuck to the marked/original trail and we had a nice half day spent in the area. If you're looking for a beautiful hike that's short and simple, I would definitely recommend Tioga Falls Trail. It's easy, and you'll get to see the beautiful falls at the end of it.

I finally got an opportunity to visit Tioga Falls today. It was exactly what I needed on a post-Thanksgiving/Black Friday morning. It is pretty easy to get to from Louisville. And only about 30 minutes from the middle of the Ville. There isn't exactly a parking lot, so much as the end of the road where the trailhead is located. I parked along one side of a sort of fenced in picnic area. There is a small, covered shelter with trail rules right next to entrance/arch. Currently (November 2018) a good deal of the first part of the trail is off limits, but you will be clearly detoured down to the road next to the trail until you get past the closed section and are directed back up to the main trail. There you climb up a bit and cross the railroad tracks (just going over them, not following them across the bridge...no "Stand By Me" moments, y'all) and just follow the out-and-back trail to the falls. The trail appears to be well-travelled, clear and easy to follow, fairly short, and not terribly strenuous. It was lovely and peaceful and just what I needed. Be aware of posted dates when hikers are not permitted. There are designated hunting weekends as well as some times when the grounds may be closed off for other purposes. I would be glad to return for a hike in warmer weather!

I have only been there once and it was breathtaking, my cousin goes there just about every other day. It's her enjoyment and break from social media and the rest of the world. I can say this much... she's a lot nicer after she spends an hour there I'm hoping to get strong enough to go with her again.

Tings Falls is way closer to the south end of Louisville than I realized. It's definitely worth the drive down Dixie highway for a moderate hike up to see the falls. The view from the railroad tracks is really cool also.

When I woke up on Sunday morning, I knew that with all the rain we had Friday that any waterfall should be flowing well. I checked our maps and smartphone for anything close by and found Tioga Falls... After getting Tony awake at 6am to get ready, we were out the door by 7am with a cooler of water and a few cans of PEPSI for me!!!!! We stopped at a Mickey D's to fuel up on eggs for protein and off we went. First. It's not the easiest waterfall to find. In West Point, Ky off 31W before Muldrah, there is a sign that says Bridges of the Past and Tioga Falls with an arrow pointing up the road. It is a small brown sign trimmed in white, easy to miss. When you turn down the road, there is a small sign talking about this is an old Stagecoach trail leading between Nashville and Louisville (which I found very interesting since I am huge history buff). Up the road less than a mile is a parking lot, with 4 picnic tables (No grills) and no bathrooms. There are 2 trails, one for Tioga Falls and the other for Bridges of the Past...we are coming back for that one... This is all FREE to enjoy and use but remember what you carry in, bring back with you. No trash cans. We read the signs and started on the 1.8 mile trek to the falls. It turns out THAT it's actually 2.5 mile loop per my health smart app on phone tracking my steps and calorie burn off. Most of the hike is up hill and very Rocky path. You have to cross the railroad tracks and keep climbing up. Be careful on the tracks and don't walk out on that Train Tressel Bridge. Once you get up there, it levels out for awhile before starting down hill. The pathway is very Rocky and wide. This is part of the old Stagecoach trail that was used in 1836 and so forth. Once you get to the falls......BEAUTIFUL!!! It is a three layer level falls with the top section a twin fall. It was flowing full. Great photo ops and selfie time. No swimming! Not crowded and Free Free to enjoy. Entire hike took us about 1 hr 10 minutes and that included the 10 to 15 minutes we enjoyed the reward for our trek, The Falls!!! I would definitely go back here again. We are in our 50s and he had triple by pass five years ago, so we hike but we don't backpack. So anyone can get here to enjoy!!! Free Beautiful Nature can't be Beat!!! Great Day trip from Louisville

The trail isn't difficult. I would say 2 miles round trip. It is a little rocky and leaves were everywhere. It was a beautiful site. I wish the waterfall had more volume. It was still a pretty site!

This is a great way to reconnect with nature out in Louisville Kentucky. I took my two boys out here, age 14 and 13 and we went on some serious adventures and made some epic memories. The waterfall at the end of the trail is worth the 1 mile hike. The trail path that is closed is definitely closed because it now goes through private property so make sure you stay to the detour route. The two best views involve the train path over the valley and of course the seven layer waterfall that is absolutely beautiful. It's advisable to follow the signs that say "do not climb" if you do not want adventure..... that's all I'm going to say on that one.... Thank you state park system for another awesome trail!! Highly recommend for ages five and up!! The path is not stroller friendly.

Since this is located near our cabin, I'm sure we will be back at another time when the falls are full. Just not this time around. What is there to say? Well, they have a ton of walkways that were added, making it accessible for all types of people. This isn't ADA accessible, but it is an easy up and down for those who can't move strenuously. There are places to sit where you can go underneath the waterfall when applicable, and it offers a really pretty view from almost all vantage points. There just isn't any water right now as the time of writing this. Maybe next time...

Upon arriving, we found a nice parking area, along with a port-a-potty. There were several little picnic areas and seating areas within feet of the parking lot. This is definitely one of the most accessible scenic areas we've been to. There are stairs with handrails heading down into the gorge. You can walk across the falls on a wooden bridge and then head down more stairs to the bottom. At this point, you can either turn around and head up, or if you're more adventurous and want to head off on a less groomed path and over some rocks, you can do that! Unfortunately, the waterfall was not flowing when we were there. I had assumed it always was, so was a little disappointed at that. I have since read up on it a bit and it seems rainy season is the best time to go to see the falls in all their glory! However, since it was dry, we could climb over rocks and explore rather safely. We hiked for a while and then turned back, as we weren't sure how far it went and we needed to hit the road. We spent about 30-45 minutes walking around and taking it in. You can make this stop in as a little as 5-10 minutes if you wanted. Longer to explore! It was beautiful! If you're in the area and have time to stop, I recommend it!

Fairmount falls is a hidden and very well kept Louisville treasure. This is a walking trail located…read morein the fern creek/zoneton areas of Louisville. For whatever reason it is owned by Jefferson memorial Forrest which is in Fairdale a good 20 min away. The park area is blocked off by rope and a lock. To get the lock combo you have to call 502-368-5404 and hit "0" for the operator. At that time either someone will pick up and you tell them you want to reserve a spot for Fairmount falls and the date you need it. Or you can leave a voicemail and they will call you back ASAP. If available (only 3 cars a day) they will get your vehicle make and color and license plate number and give you the code. They will tell you to enter the home address of 9601 thixton lane but the entrance is actually across the street. How hidden and unknown is this place? I live literally a mile from here for the last 3 years. I had no idea it even existed. I've probably drove by the hidden entrance 20 good times with no idea. The woods and creek that it attaches is literally the same woods and creek in my actual back yard. If I was grizzly adams I could probably find a way to navigate or kayak my way there. But I'm not about that life. It's the 21st century and I have no problem calling a phone number, reserving a day and driving myself here. As alluded to the entrance is very small and tight (large vehicles may have to adjust a few times) and hard to miss. When you take the rope off you have a tiny parking area and a nice picnic table area. From there you start the trail. The trail is 1.1 miles round trip and it is a loop. First part of the trail has a variety of beautiful mossy rocks and fallen trees in a well beaten out and carved out nature trail. You will come up to a normal road and have to cross it to continue the trail. At that point is where you approach the breathtaking and beautiful Fairmount falls. They have a few side trails to get closer looks and photos. However you will be cross over the falls shortly while staying on the trail. When on top of the falls your feet will get a little wet. There is no barricades so you have to be careful of you dare get closer to the edge for a look see. It's pretty much straight rock in what I'd say is well over a 50 foot drop. So there is not walking it off if you slip. So proceed off trail with extreme caution. The trail continues through more beautiful natural Forrest areas. Including some nice random spots that had yellow water Lilly's that popped up. That second half also has a couple bench areas to sit and relax in the woods. The second half of this trail once you cross the waterfall has some very muddy spots. It is flat Ground and you can trek around them in the woods. Which you can tell has been done before as a second path is starting to emerge. Eventually you loop back around to the waterfall and head back to the beginning. Fairmount falls is Breathtaking, peaceful and quiet. You feel like your in on a top secret place when going there because you will likely be the only ones there and upon arrival you have to take a lock off the rope then lock it behind you and do the same when leaving. Being a mile away from my house I'll reserve this a bunch moving forward. It's an easy well shaded walking trail and relaxing. My family and I have done majority of Louisville walking trails. There isn't another waterfall like this nearby. So it is unique too. Overall extremely glad to have found this hidden gem. I would highly recommend for any nature lover!
