My family planned months in advance to do a road trip and stay at Mammoth Cave NP. Unfortunately the federal government shut down just before we made our visit. When looking for things to do in lieu of MCNP we ended up at Diamond Caverns. It was ok. We'd been to Carlsbad Caverns recently so this was very underwhelming. 4 stars because the staff was great. The tour guide had her script nailed and she was passionate about working there. Large gift shop. My kids loved it and sometimes at the end of the day that's all that matters. read more

If you have a choice asked for Kaden extremely knowledgeable about this cave If you can't get into Mammoth don't worry Diamond Caverns did NOT disappoint. Well worth the entrance fee and the time. The cave is pretty interesting, and fairly sizable. The tour leader was friendly and outgoing, offering bits of interesting information along the way. The scale of this cave doesn't really compare with Mammoth Cave, and you should definitely go there. But going here also, if you have time, could definitely be worthwhile. They don't allow any water bottles on the tour, though, which is a little annoying. read more

Great cavern, informative guide, well structured. We had a small group, six of us including my buddy and me. I'm sure it must be tough to compete with MCNP down the road but if you're looking for beautiful formations, this place won't disappoint. It is a quick tour as the cave is not vast but quite beautiful. One thing of note is although the ground has concrete on the pathway, it is uneven in quite a few areas and one could easily stumble if not careful. Well, I love caves. We were the first tour of the day in the middle of the week and got super lucky and were the only two people on the tour along with the guide. The guide was able to take her time and give us some history of the cave that she otherwise wouldn't have time to do on a regularly populated tour. Her words not mine. She definitely did just that. We got history of how the cave was diverted, why it is called Diamond Caverns, she showed the area people have to crawl in order to get to the third level which is where there is an underground river. There have been geologists and other pros that crawled through the hole and floated the river to see where it came out. This cave is still actively growing so you will get drops of water on you here and there. Anyway, the guide was cool and filled with knowledge. If you are into caves, I definitely recommend Diamond Caverns. read more

Just to let you know, they don't allow any WATER on 1 hour tour, no bags, nothing in your hands. I've had a headache and I've had to stay hydrated, they did not allow me on the tour as I've carried the water bottle with me , I did not want to leave it. Diamond Caverns is in the vicinity of Mammoth Cave NP. What sets this place apart is the amount of diverse formations you get to see on a 1-hour tour. Also, unlike the national park, Diamond Caverns is first-come first-served with no reservations. I just visited the area for the second time, this time we had a lot of family members including small children. We did the early morning Mammoth Cave beginner-level tour and then went straight over to Diamond Caverns for their tour. Everything else in the national park was sold out for the day, but we went straight onto a Diamond Cavern tour with no wait and a group of 14 of us. The tour guide was very patient with the bunch of small children in our group. Overall, I highly recommend Diamond Caverns if you are in the area and interested in taking an hour-long tour that includes a lot of steps to get up and down to/from the caverns. There is some neat local history included as well. There's a full gift shop with beverages and restrooms available on site. No food, drinks, or bags of any kind are allowed in the caverns. read more

My sister and I went to take a tour around 2pm. Our tour group was quite small and only had 3 people in it, but that didn't stop our tour guide, Lucas, from giving us an amazing tour. He was very nice and answered all of our questions, making the trip very informative and interesting. For example, we had asked about a formation of dripstone and he explained all about it then pointed out another example later in the tour. All of the questions we had were answered thoroughly. Not only was the touring amazing, but so were the caves themselves. The formations were so beautiful to see and learning about the history of the cave paired well with the visuals. I was hesitant about the ticket prices at first as they are on the more expensive end for cave tours, but it was definitely worth it and I would go again if I am ever in the area. read more

Kenzy was the best tour guide! She was patient, personable, humorous, and provided lots of great information. The caverns were packed with a plethora of geological features. I would rate this as a moderately strenuous tour because the steep places and stairs have helpful hand rails. While the length of the cavern is only 1/4 mile to the end and then back (1/2 mile total), it was a full experience because this cavern has SO much packed into the small cavern. Don't let the outside fool you - this is a great experience! read more

This was one of the many Cave tours we did while visiting Mammoth Cave this July. This one is tied for my top spot. Our tour guide Dallas was very informative and engaging on his tour. As everyone mentioned this isn't handicap accessible and there are steep steps in and out of the cave. I wouldn't say they're overly strenuous, and I saw people of varying ability levels do this in flip flops (I wouldn't recommend this. It is wet and slippery). This is a wet cave and we went on a rainy day, so throughout our tour the waterfalls started to get stronger and appear more places, which was cool to see. The formations are also vastly different than Mammoth Cave so it's a nice contrast. I would say this is definitely a "must do" if you go, but also a once and done kind of place. Also prepare to move quickly. On the way back, we all but sprinted because we were constantly waiting for stragglers in the back. You also can't get tickets ahead and they're first come first served. We didn't have an issue, but it was also kind of a crappy day. I could see it being much busier on a nice summer day. read more

I can walk the distance but not without water. I need my meds in case of an emergency and she said no. Ok, there was a snowstorm. But the billboards and brochures do say open everyday since whatever year in the 1800s they put down. It was not open. I am all for people being safe but we drove up just fine and were disappointed. read more

This was a beautiful cavern that we toured before Mammoth Cave, and located in the same state park. It is starkly a different style cave than Mammoth, and the style I prefer, all the glitz! Mammoth doesn't have these eye catching formations, it's just Mammoth sized. Definitely worth a stop for sure. read more

Things to know right off the bat: get tickets and then go eat, wear good non slip shoes, make sure you keep a mask on and it's very very breathable. Check out the gift shop before the tour and get water after it. Allison was our incredibly knowledgeable tour guide and was funny and friendly! She was helpful in explaining the guiding rules of no food or dink or bags on the tour, and the rules of the governor's edict for social distancing. The negative of this is you have to wear a mask the whole time- you will get dripped on- then you will understand what water boarding could start as. Make sure your mask breathes well or is waterproof. Walking abilities are essential and so is the ability to climb stairs. Allison said she climbs about 1000 stairs a day as a tour guide. The cavern is beautiful and has formations I had never seen before and was in awe as we walked through the concrete trails. There are Some really cool unexpected parts and pieces of history that I had never seen before, the bridal cavern is a cool cavern! I would love the opportunity to go spelunking and see the crawl paths and the underground river! However, I do not like the cave crickets. They are super creepy to me and I would prefer to not be near them, we only encountered a few because of the rain but there is a part where she said normally they are teeming with cave crickets. I will pass on that every time! Spider looking crickets that jump: no thanks!! The rainy day caused for a lot of puddles and tiny water falls and drips. It made for a lot of wet people and masks. As I said before breathing got much harder and as a person with lung damage and a wet mask, I was heaving and having a hard time getting enough O2 while heading up the stairs and hills out of the cave. My exercise regime wasn't prepared for that. It made it harder to keep my mask on and rationally I would prefer not to have a mask if I knew I would be getting it wet. I know I am harping on this part but it was a constant problem once we were wet. No problems dry more problems wet. My husband who has no lung issues and can exercise just fine was also having trouble after his mask got wet as did the young family of 5 we were with. Once we exited the cavern we went to the car, changed our masks for dry ones and went back in to get the things we had perused at earlier. The prices aren't marked up to crazy rates and they have an amazing array of items. We got a lot of keep sakes and useful tools while there, as well as gifts for family! We will check out more of the cave system and hopefully be back after they finish the museum of the cavern! Thanks for the wonderful time! read more

Customer Service is shit. We spent 50 dollars on tickets for the tour, another 30 dollars on random touristy bulls@&) to show support. Yet the second time we came in (for the tour), some greasy haired kid at the register stared down our every move as if we were going to steal something. We camped for two weeks across the street and have never seen more than 10 cars(if that) in the lot for Diamond Caverns. Absolutely no wonder why. Tours at MAMMOTH CAVE NATIONAL PARK are the same amount and right up the road! Support NPS and not this tourist trap. read more

If you go to Cave City, you would be amiss to NOT hit up as many caves as possible! This one gets awards for being the most decorated. It's a wet cave, so exactly what you think of when you imagine walking through where others spelunkers have searched for the river. This actually attaches via the Green River to Mammoth. I would give it a better review except that my wife who has major knee problems was denied entry because she has two hiking sticks that she uses to keep her self balanced and secure. And the staff said that they did not allow walking sticks. To me that was a load of crud because that's what they are exactly designed for. Now it she was trying to take a closed in tour that was tight spaces and such then that would be dumb. I think they may want to rethink the policy some. I went to mammoth national cave on the day the government shut down happened. So I had to join the private tours and I went to diamond caverns. It was a wonderful experience. They have the schedule and allow only 25 head counts/ tour. It's one hour long. The tour guide is very informative and very organized. The cave itself is very beautiful and worth the trip. Super great adventure for our family of various ages. Our tour guide, Sarah, was awesome. She seemed generally interested in the info she was sharing on top of the well learned history. The caverns were beautiful to see and the history and details from Sarah along the way made it educational and interesting. It was interesting to see how early explorers could have confused the minerals with diamonds from the way the cave shimmers in light. The gift shop and other facilities were very clean and well maintained. Prices at the gift shop varied but were fair for the experience. Some items (such as crack at home geodes) could be purchased nearby for less at road side stands. Absolutely awesome experience and highly recommended if you're in the area. read more
