Less people drinking and willing to pay secondary prices. Furthermore, a lot of us have gotten pretty smart watching YouTube and reading about this amazing brown elixir. So, the 51% corn and new oak barrel stuff can probably be dropped, but tell me what is special about my choices. I also asked our friendly tour guy if HH was bringing back the 12 year age statement on the Elijah Craig and he responded 12 years? (A few years ago EC dropped the age statement, because bourbon was being sold so fast, they had difficulty obtain older bourbon for this brand). My point is be unique, tell me something that we don't know, what is HH doing to deal with the change in the bourbon trend, what is the new thing in bourbon. For future readers, you'll recall that the spring of 2021 was a crazy time, coming off all the COVID lockdowns. Many distillers, who hadn't been open for tours for many months, were finally opening their doors, and demand for tours and tastings far exceeded availability. Tommy apparently has a few connections, and was able to get us the Connoisseur's Tasting at Heaven Hill, and the full tour and tasting at Maker's Mark. The experience was great: The van was large and comfortable, and Tommy--locally raised--knows the area, it's history, and plenty about the distilleries. In addition to the planned stops, he also made an unscheduled stop at the tiny Limestone Branch Distillery so we could taste some craft cocktails and buy some souvenirs. Bottom line: If you love bourbon, and you're looking for a relaxing, enjoyable, and memorable afternoon in the heart of bourbon country, you will not go wrong with Tommy and CopperTop Tours.

He explained lots about bourbon, kept us laughing, and just made sure we had a great time! The Brunch ar Bar Vetti was great. Then we headed to distilleries: Kentucky Artisan, which is small and unique, Jeptha Creed, small and beautiful, and the Granddaddy of them all, Buffalo Trace. At Buffalo Trace we only did tastings and had plenty of time to shop. The last stop, Pappy and Co. was a waste of time. No one bought anything, and we all felt bad for the woman who opened the store for us. The other people on the bus were fun, and the group was small enough that we all got to talk to each other.

We were allowed to hang a banner and pictures on the windows, and we could bring a full sized cooler of drinks + access it with ease. The walking tour is accessible to people of most abilities, with a bit of uneven ground in some spots. Cool, comfortable temperatures. (Maybe have a light sweater.) Cool/interesting history of how the carven transitioned from a massive limestone mining facility that started in the 1930s, to its multiple uses today. The zip-lining looks like a lot of fun, but that was not for us on this day.

Not only is it insane that you literally are driving into a huge cavern in your own vehicle but the size of it is is ridiculous. Then add in the light shows and it's breathtaking! It's about 12-15 minutes drive at a slow pace and you have light displays from all sorts of known Disney and other companies as well as a laser light show (so be careful if that causes you any medical issues). The price is well worth it!!! Come on out and check it out!
