This place used to be good circa 2018/2019. Haven't been here in a while until this week and the selection has really dwindled... Mostly geriatric looking clothes; strange prints and patterns on everything, mostly very large sizes. There was truly an overwhelming amount of Hawaiian looking and grandma floral print shirts. They used to have racks and racks of jeans in this place, and now they only have one, with mostly everything being high waisted or skinny. Place was also about 100 degrees inside and all the lights were off. Overall would not recommend unless you're a size 2XL and 75 years old. read more

I had a large bag of 80s clothes to sell and Crossroads took a few pieces. I asked the buyer if there was any place that she would recommend that I should try to sell and she recommended Squaresville. Quick drive to Squaresville. Found metered parking and walked over to the shop. It was late afternoon and some of the employees were dressed up for Halloween. When I entered the establishment, I noticed how the lighting was pretty dim which I hated because you can't see the clothes in the shop very well. The female employees were busy chatting amongst themselves and didn't pay any attention to me till I was able to catch the eye of one of them. I politely announced that I wanted to sell and she rudely told me which direction I should go to sell. Customer service was not in existence. Walked out of the shop with my large bag of clothes, past the plant stand, and went to a side, open door. It was blocked by a table. I filled out the paper you need to fill out if you are selling. I rang the bell for service and waited patiently. I had to ring it several times because the horrible "music" was blaring and a female employee close by kept on talking loud interspersing her conversation several times with the word "f..k". FINALLY a male employee came to my assistance. He spoke to me as if I was "slow". He took my info and paperwork then took my large bag and placed it within the store with a bunch of other large bags of clothes. I received a text from the shop about two days later informing me to pick up my stuff within a week or they would donate my stuff. They REALLY need to improve on their customer service. Prices are good - cheaper than some vintage stores around. The staff is rude and moody 100% of the time (I've been in here probably 30 times). Seems like they keep like 10 people working at once but 9 of them are in the back room sitting around chatting and sorting through inventory and 1 of them is *maybe* working the front counter. The staff acts like they're annoyed that you're there and speaking to them. But the vintage clothes are pretty good and mostly well-priced. Oh and the music they play is HORRENDOUS. like, upsetting at times. I guess that's the vibe they're going for though? Again, it feels like the staff hates you for being there. I was walking in Los Feliz today and was approaching Squaresville (which I've never been in before) and was going to pop my head in - until I got closer and witnessed the store OWNER, professing her ownership while SCREAMING at the top of her lungs at a film production crew for being on her sidewalk and "losing customers" (even though her business was open and totally approachable and easy to enter).. also, what "customers?" I was the ONLY potential customer during this whole situation and her foul attitude turned me right around. I've never heard someone in real life be more relentless, insane, cuss out an entire group of people, flip everyone off, and screaming at a crew member that she's causing this scene because she wants money. Meanwhile we heard someone on the crew tell her she had to stop being disruptive because that's what they paid for her... SHE HAD ALREADY BEEN PAID!!!! Greedy disgrace - out of principle, do not give your money to this woman and her equally as awful and mean staff (who had her back while she was irately screaming) - I wish I took a video. I have been coming here since I was 17 years old (I'm 35 now), and there used to be very sweet, fun, inviting energy here. Unfortunately its totally not the case anymore. Great selection of clothes for soccer moms! I also commend them for hiring people who are developmentally disabled. Most of the staff seems to have mild cognitive impairment - they are emotionally flat and speak in monosyllables but can be counted on to perform rudimentary tasks like folding clothes and sweeping. WARNING: SECURITY CAMS CAN SEE INTO FITTING ROOM I want to start this review by saying I really like Squaresville and always find cute pieces there at good prices. However, the last time I was there I realized that at least one security camera can see into at least one fitting room. As far as I'm concerned, this is illegal and extremely invasive. I'm not sure if it can see every fitting room, I was in the one closest to the front door. The camera can easily be seen from the mirror inside the fitting room, meaning it can see everything the mirror sees. Squaresville needs to immediately address this. Never drop your stuff off here - they don't let you take it back if they offer far below the value of it. They take your clothes and keep them and will only give back what they don't want and there's no reverse of it. Dropped of atleast $1200 of clothes worth. I couldn't get back my clothes that ranged from $200-500 and they gave me back $32 for all of it. Horrible scam. Absolute bamboozle of a process. Never coming back here. On top of it, rude staff. They have a nice selection, cute clothes, but the whole time I was in the store, the entire staff was in the back. No one came up to the front once or greeted any customers. It's a small store and the area in the back is open so you can hear them laughing and gossiping back there. One young male employee actually yelled at the top of his lungs several times saying "what are you on about, what are you on about". I'm quite certain it was a joke but man it was super weird and unprofessional. I don't know who the owner is but they might want to consider some new hires... This is probably my favorite vintage store in all of the Los Angeles area. Every single time I have gone to the store, I have always found something to purchase, and that's rare. This store gets really heavy foot traffic, so they are constantly replenishing their vintage. You can visit every couple weeks and it seems like they have tons of new merchandise every time. I am more of an hourglass shape and good vintage is hard to come by for my shape, but I always find cute things here. Prices are really reasonable considering this is a curated when did shop and not a thrift store. About $18-30 for most items. They could stand to organize things a little better or relocate to a larger store with all the merchandise they do have. Fitting rooms are too small with an annoying cloth you pull that doesn't even seem wide enough. read more

First of all, their clothes are great. From what I have seen on their racks, they must have hired someone to finesse some great finds and some of my statement closet pieces came from here. The clothes are good quality, and if you are looking for funky and well-built vintage items that will last you decades, I would recommend Squaresville. However, there is a much more important reason for gathering here on this website. To survive the overwhelming experience of stepping into a vintage consignment shop in Los Feliz, you have to understand a few rules if you want to try and shop here. 1. You will spend more money than you intended. Maybe it's the long vacant stares being shot towards you by the overstaffed atmosphere, or just the overpriced simple 70s floral dresses that seem to sell so well. Stick to the upstairs and be selective on what you want to invest in. 2. You aren't going to sell your clothes. You might make money back in store credit, but the buyers are choosy and their long clawed acrylic nails do not want your old band shirts that they can't sell back for a 250% profit. 3. You will be judged. If you enjoy the insatiable feeling of teenaged eyes dragging themselves up and down your ill-crafted outfit, you are in the right place. There are also consistently about 7 employees on break in the back corner who occasionally look up in a dazed glance while you hobble up the stairs to get away from the hostility, Juuls included. 4. Plan to try on as many things as possible, but purchase as few items as you can. should've read the reviews before going - something i immediately noticed was that the security cameras were IN FRONT of the dressing rooms, not only wrong but ILLEGAL! - it's a miracle to find something if you're anything over a size 10 (things are tagged medium or large and fit like a small) - the staff is SO rude and gives off a sort of elitist attitude - i don't care if the store is in "one of the most expensive cities in the world" as one reviewer pointed out, basic human decency should be universal! - even if they had THE BEST customer service ever, the clothing selection is diverse, in poor quality. knitwear is full of pilling, graphics are cracking/peeling, buttons are chipped, random stains on clothing. it's vintage clothing so of course it will probably not be in BRAND NEW condition but if it's on the floor it should be better than this? anyways, i know how much they pride themselves on having a bad reputation cause that's "so cool and edgy " so wish me luck that i make it to their display window! read more

Sooooo this review is for the buying section. Now before I start - this isn't a review because they didn't buy any of my items because they bought a lot. Be prepared to SPEND SOME DAMN TIME HERE THAT YOULL NEVER GET BACK. I had maybe 2 people ahead of me and I was there for a total of TWO AND A HALF HOURS. It's a small section in the back where there's probably 5 baby chicks shoved back there & one clucking hen. The girl that looked like Will from Stranger Things literally took over an hour to just price & tag the garments. They would slowly pick up a tag & slowly pick up the garment & slowly decide a price. It's SO slow because every 3 minutes they all stop to chit chat, try on clothes, and just shoot the shit. The 2 baby chicks slowly sort through everything and set aside the items they want. But there's another level to this video game! There's a main hen that comes out from behind a curtain to slowly & painfully look through the already set aside items. That takes another while. After, all the baby chicks start to price and tag items while clucking back and forth about personal life crap that no one needs to hear. Employees on the floor are rude, do not acknowledge you, and simply side eye you the entire time. God forbid you say "have a good day" on the way out or a simple "bye". Now I say to all of u.. This for the buying section. On their website, they said the buyer will quote the price for each item they select, and the seller and the buyer reach an agreement for the price. The seller will get paid 55% of the quoted price in store credit...if that is the form of payment you choose. The buyer asked me to leave while she went through my stuff, out of respect I stepped away, didn't want her to feel pressured. When I came back, she gave me back the stuff she passed on and the total sum of how much I would get for the items she selected. I asked which items she selected. She said " a pair of shoes, a dress, a jacket.." I brought in many pairs of shoes, many dresses and many jackets, which ones were she talking about?? I asked her if I could see the items she just selected less than 10 min ago, she literally said no. I told her I needed to know which items are taken, otherwise how do we reach an agreement if I have no idea what's been taken ?! She said " Look, is there anything you don't wanna sell??" Been shopping/selling here for about 14 years and hadn't been in for a couple of years/was recently really disappointed by the customer service upon returning. Not at all what I'd come to know and love. Yeah, I get it, people move on. The old school hipsters that used to run this place had their moments, but they were overall pretty good employees and pleasant/knowledgable enough to chat with. They also kept the place really clean/organized. It was the first-gen Elliot Smith/Radiohead-loving types who were a little snobby because they're into vintage clothing history & art house film, but it was part of the place's charm. Fast track to now: A bunch of gen-Z kids (dressed like the burnout Y2k hot topic crowd I knew in high school) who seem to not give a half a F*ck about anything except whatever they're watching on Youtube/Instagram with the volume fully blasting, not able to even be bothered by the fact you have your arms full or that there's stuff on the floor, with their bodies parked fully seated cross-legged/feet ON the same counter as the clothing . A Strokes T-shirt I'm pretty sure would have been rejected by the old staff hung on the wall marked for $100+ while a lot of true vintage went sorta neglected. What world am I in? The selection is still decent enough, and I know that these kids are not the owners, but someone please tell them that they're not subversive or cool for working here; please learn some manners and how to represent the company paying you to serve its clientele, cause I have a resale shop myself & used to take it as a huge compliment when people said I reminded them of Squaresville back in the day; now, I might be horrified. read more

I agree with all the unpleasant reviews. Please please be cautious when selling to them . They will 100% rip you off and not give you a fair price. The worst part is you have to drop off so have no clue what you actually will be getting. I guess that's on the seller but you will feel extremely ripped off when you go to collect your payment. This first time I sold here was awesome. Staff was friendly and helpful and I felt so happy to have finally found a fun place to sell vintage and shop. The second time was so miserable that I cried when I got to my car. After waiting a really long time for somebody to answer the bell you need to ring at the side door for service I was "greeted" if you can call it that, by the buyer. They have a little waiver you need to sign when you check in and I had a minor question about something on it. The buyer was so pissed I asked for clarification that she rolled her eyes, gave a big sigh, and was like "it's right there but I could read it for you!" I did not appreciate being treated like an idiot, and having worked retail before I'm always extra friendly to staff. Unless you are living in a science fiction movie or novel, I can safely assume that you don't posses the power to travel back into time. What's the next best thing for those of us who appreciate eras bygone? "Traveling back into time" by wearing vintage clothing. For those who read my reviews regularly; you are well aware that I travel back into time often as I adore vintage clothing and vintage clothing stores (having worked in one in the past, as well). Admittedly I am quite critical with vintage stores. How does Squaresville rate? Sadly, I could avoid this time trip. Don't let Squaresville's two-floor store space fool you; the space is tiny and the goods are limited. Although Squaresville offers purses, belts, jewelry, shoes, skirts, dresses, sleep clothes, aprons, undergarments, and men's clothing; each of these sub-categories are are quite narrow with much larger selections in other vintage stores in the neighborhood plus even at thrift stores. The clothing is not very easy-to-find in terms of not being split by era or size. It is basically just a rack of dresses here, skirts there, etc. Not to mention the prices are VERY steep. $60 for a 50s day dress is way over the top and I have even worked wholesale vintage trade shows. Granted, Squaresville does get extra bonus points for selling REAL vintage (versus store that are vintage-inspired or just sell old clothes and claim it to be vintage); but the quality still doesn't "okay" the price asked. The men's floor upstairs is even more sparse than the female section and the high prices continues. Squaresville's men's section has simply dwindled more and more over the years (which is surprising due to the INCREASE in hipster men). How is service? Well, we WERE welcomed immediately upon walking in the door which is another positive factor at Squaresville. However, the female on duty was puffing a smokeless/electronic cigarette which I found odd and made me uncomfortable. Real cigarette or not; it is still not really appropriate while working. The music was also overly loud (but a fun throwback at 90s pop hits). Overall, Squaresville is more targeted to those who don't know the ins and outs of vintage or vintage-searching and will be impressed by any old article of clothing that they can spend bucks on to try to fit the hipster statement. For those who prefer larger selections and lower prices; LA has much better vintage stores out there (see: my vintage store list). Route your time machine elsewhere. read more

I have only been here once and will never come back. They are so utterly rude and although they do have some good vintage, they also have some worthless stuff that is priced at $50, $70, etc, things that aren't unique and have no value as vintage items or collector's items that should be priced at about $10 at a yard sale. I used to sell vintage and quirky second hand clothes at street fairs and was unloading a lot of items at consignment shops. Three buyers at three different shops all told me that Squaresville would probably love my stuff so I made it my last stop of the day. The buyer here was SO rude. She did buy one pair of overalls, but she acted like she was doing me a favor. I had some skirts with me and she literally said that she didn't want my skirts because she doesn't sell to the 'festival starter pack' type of girls and sort of threw each item to the side after looking at it. Strange, since 1) they definitely have a lot of clothes there that could be classified as 'festival starter pack' and 2) thats quite a rude way to generalize anyone who like flowing skirts. If she didn't like my stuff, fine. I wasn't desperate. I was purposely trying to get rid of some of my least interesting, mostly filler, pieces so it's not like I expected anyone to jump up and down over it. But after all the attitude, I definitely never wanted to buy anything there. I just can't stand the 'too cool to live' crowd. read more
