You could spend a great deal of time looking at each peice. Prices are not outrageous so definitely will leave with something. Picked up one of there LA shirts. She was super knowledgeable about everything in stock and boy do they have a lot of stock. You should enjoy buying shoes IRL. Try them on. (I am horrible with names but I know my husband will never forget.) I tried to leave my husband with her but she gave him back. ‍ She was so much fun and you can tell she really loves her customers! We will definitely be back next year! Until then....we will be shopping online to support this small business and living legend! No taking photos inside (there are a bunch of different signs telling you this) so it's hard to describe what's for sale. Fun to take a gander inside if you happen to be in the area and find a parking spot but probably not the most exciting place to go for specifically since you'd have to fight traffic and very confusing parking rules to get here.

Walked in, liked some things and bought some things. As we were ready to leave we noticed the wall in the back with the art displays. They have a beautiful piece with what looks like a woman in a turban or headpiece. They also have it painted on the wall. Considering it's permanently on the wall, think safe assumption, the woman behind desk would know the history of the painting. She said she didn't. And not in an I just work here kind of way but in a snobby tone. We got the impression she judged a book by its cover...like I said we were in gym clothes. She made it clear she had no interest in wasting her time on us. I'd like to go back and support the independent artists but not at the cost of a snob. I asked because I was interested in purchasing the painting but not after that encounter.

The shirts that caught my eye were the vintage short sleeve sweater tops with puffy sleeves. Each one was so cute and unique. I wish I got pics. True to vintage style, the women's t's are form fitting and oh so cute. Unfortunately, I'm more of an over sized tee kinda girl. Other wise I would've bought one of everything. Ended up with a really bad ass unisex oversized shirt with a keyhole and a pinup girl as the view. It's an awesome shirt and really good quality. This place will be a regular stop for me from now on. Looove it.

Definitely, there's a vibe - part street, just shy of "hood" but in a good way. I loved their homage to L.A., Latin-street culture by way of their embroidery work (peep the font they use), and casualness. Prices are moderate: $38 for a baseball hat that I bought because I loved it! They also had some cool bucket hats with their logo embroidered on it - if I'm still thinking about it, I may just come back for it. Service was great. The cashier was super engaging and helpful. I wish them well and appreciate their product. And "To live and die in L.A." was not lost on me ...now to fight with my kids on who gets to wear the hat first! picture of hat coming soon!

Eh, that's fine, I was expecting that (My friend wanted to look something up and forgot about the rule), but I suppose that guy did give us an uncomfortable feeling. However, I went in a second time with a different friend- During Covid- So I emailed/called first to make sure they were open. Richard was so nice! He had a lot of knowledge to share about certain products we were looking at. Other people have had odd experiences, but ours was amazing. He had just gotten in a new shipment of tea from Kyoto, and he actually made some for us and we chatted about tea, and his friends in Japan. He even showed us his new shop next door filled with furniture he's working on, which was all so cool. The vibe is just so well-lived in "wabi-sabi". Honestly, I had a great time. I do hope people just remember to respect that they have rules and conduct expectations- Not unlike Japan. Follow and have manners, and you'll be treated accordingly. (:

I miss the days when people appreciated character. Especially shop owners. He may be a bit eccentric and sometimes direct (with cute dog in tote) but I feel like it adds to the charm and experience of it all. This store is an experience. Very special. I feel like yelp has created an unhealthy dynamic of people expecting 5 star treatment everywhere they go and for workers to act as slaves. Personally... the grumpier, more eccentric, or offbeat a shopkeeper is the more I love it. It's what us LA natives grew up with and it gives a place character and authenticity. If people have issues with character other than "hello how may I serve your pretentious entitled self today?" They should be shopping in a different neighborhood such as Beverly Hills. Regardless of what anyone says, this shop has the most beautifully curated collection of fine Japanese treasures and I will be a lifelong customer. I just brought two of my friends in today and we were treated so wonderfully and the two gems working were knowledgeable and helpful from the moment we walked in. Not to mention we had a very babbley baby in tow and it didn't seem to bother them at all! My last note: if anyone decides to research Japanese traditions and customs it isn't all that outrageous that phones are asked to be put away during your visit. It really takes away from the experience of it all. My suggestion/tip... go in, phone away, connect with the people, sit in silence, appreciate the craftsmanship of these incredible items... just put your western everyday distractions and habits away for a short time and you will leave this place feeling a sense of calm and happiness. It's really something to be appreciated. I hope New High Mart is around forever!

I was excited because it was already from a few seasons back at this point, and I had never been able to find it in person. They looked at each other weirdly for a moment, and then proceeded to tell me awkwardly "No, sorry. That's just a really special piece..." Like, WHAT?! I had already experienced questionable customer service at this location before, but this was SO weird and embarrassing - especially since I had serious intentions of purchasing and a lot of knowledge about the product.
