Treehaus, on the other hand, had a ton of pieces that I've never seen before, either in Los Angeles or elsewhere. This shop carries a couple lines of interesting jewelry collections (I particularly liked the more industrial/brutalist of them), a range of adult and baby clothes and an interesting and eclectic line of eye wear. While the adult clothing skews toward femme, I would describe many of them as unisex, which fits the cool queer/feminist vibe of the shop. There were a lot of cool housewares that, again, I've never seen before. These range from the practical (metal soap dishes) to the purely aesthetic (fun art prints of famous spots in LA.) Lots of retro designs can be found to decorate your living space. Other things I really enjoyed: a human bone and organ ink stamp collection, fun notebooks and adorable stuffed animals. And of course, they had a great collection of books and cards. Prices were on par for quality. It's very middle of the road for a gift shop or boutique. The clerks on duty were friendly and personable. I would definitely have felt comfortable going to them with questions. I will definitely return the next time I'm shopping for a friend.

Hi all! I rarely write reviews but after my last visit, I have some thoughts. I visited once a few…read moreyears ago, but I'm saddened to say that the quality has gone down and I don't know if I'll be returning any time soon. The shop has a great selection of jewelry and knickknacks, but the clothing is extremely limited - especially for the price point. I'm not even large in size, but all of the clothing ranged from size xxxxxs - medium (yes, an actual piece had 5 x's). Now this really wasn't the problem since I got some jewelry and the owner even comped a broken pair of earrings! Now moving on to the customer service. I understand the owner has some concerns with shoplifters, but the way she now conducts the store is overkill. You have to call to get in, and she locks you in once you're inside and she is the only one "allowed" to let you out. She also was so intense towards me and other customers in the shop that it took away from the pleasant experience I was looking forward to. What I mean by this is: 1) Every item has a "DO NOT TOUCH" or "NO PHOTOS" or some other loud sign that makes it impossible to move throughout the store or explore items. 2) Any time I picked up an item, the owner immediately hovered over me and 'offered' to take it to the front before I was even done looking at it. This happened 3 separate times. 3) The owner actually SHOVED my mother to the side to race to the door and let some customers out since they're locked in and not allowed any autonomy to leave despite MULTIPLE cameras everywhere. Mind you, the owner had on thick platform boots and stepped on my mom's foot and didn't say 'excuse me' or anything of the sort. 4) The owner was extremely hypervigilant and would stare down customers while frowning at them (no joke, just like this: ) all while customers were just looking at pieces (because they were not allowed to be touched). 5) The breaking point was when I had just purchased my earrings and was moving to leave, but the owner genuinely started mumbling to herself and eventually got louder, saying, "No, no, no!! This guy's a bad guy!! NO NO!! HE'S BAD UGHH!!!" and started to duck behind the counter and pull at her hair. This freaked me out because now I'm locked in this shop with her as she's tweaking. I turned to my mom and, at that instant, decided we needed to leave at that very moment. The entire experience was bizarre and it's evident that the owner's experiences with previous shoplifters has translated into something that denies the customer a decent experience. The entire shop's atmosphere was paranoid, stifled, constricted, and anything but decent/relaxed. Good music though. I bid good luck to anyone that dares venture into that cutthroat space.

Thought the store was cute so my friend and I walked in to check it out. The worker didn't even greet us or acknowledge us, and it wasn't like she was busy doing anything since there was no one else in the store. We looked around for a bit and my friend asked her a question. The worker rolled her eyes and begrudgingly answered us, sounding annoyed saying something like "umm it's vintage" in a sassy tone. As my friend continued to look at a dress, I heard the worker mumble under her breath "you're not going to fit in that." We pretty much immediately walked out and the the woman visibly looked upset that we wasted her time. First off, rude. Second of all, your tchotchkes were tacky which is why we didn't buy anything. Third, the worker ruined the experience by her bad attitude. Don't know what we did to her to make her so angry in the three minutes we were in the store. Instead of going back, I would rather go to the Goodwill store a block away.

Some of these items include small ceramic pieces such as vases and small dishes suitable for stashing jewelry or other trinkets, crocheted animals and artistically designed maps of cities. I have also enjoyed the handmade soaps and other lovely, fragrant body products. I have often admired the jewelry on display, made by artisans running small businesses. There are a number of very interesting pieces: a gold/silver duo-tone necklace recently caught my eye and there are a number of pieces using labradorite and other less "mainstream" stones. As someone who write people frequently via snail mail, I have come to rely on Sumi's as one of my primary supplier of cards. Regardless of when I shop, I always find something that either a) cracks me up or b) is perfect for a message to a particular friend of family member.
