They carry a beautiful, yet limited, selection of clothing, but their staff is uninvolved and apathetic.

Seamlessly bridges the gap between intriguing modern Japanese street wear brands and West coast casual and relaxed design. Virgil Normal also acts like a social and cultural hub for not only Los Feliz and Silverlake, but pretty much the entire artists and creative communities in LA as a whole. Visit multiple times as there's always something new to discover from design zines, modern clothing, shades, shoes, carefully selected eclectic vintage, skate stuff, record stuff, tapes, shirts, long sleeves... pretty much all and everything interesting design. There's something special with purpose about everything there. Skate our front, always a party monthly in the back. Parking sucks but thats not on them. 100

From chic Japanese / American brands like Monitaly to international lines like Brain Dead to classics in fits you can't find anywhere else like wide-legged Ben Davis to hand-picked vintage pieces, shopping at VN is an education and a first-hand journey through the mind of two people with incredibly inspired and informed taste and a deep passion for progressive menswear. And the shopping experience is calm, friendly and warm. For all the taste involved, the experience is unpretentious and chill. Charlie is there a lot of days and he always has some great story to share, and I've often found myself wanting to take in every single item in the store. Pottery, photo books, ceramics, one-off art pieces...and a red vintage Gucci sweatshirt!?!? If the same same bores you and you're wondering what else is out there, I would absolutely encourage you to check out Virgil Normal. As a former employee of X-Large, I definitely feel the echos of the blend of a young, rebellious and creative spirit with sophisticated design tastes that XL pioneered in the early 90s at Virgil Normal, and it is a beautiful thing to behold.

When I get there I usually get greeted and welcomed. I usually walk around the neatly organized store, try on the item I went there for and leave content with a Filson item I know will last for years! Yes, for a little over $1500, you can have an entire artisanally crafted ensemble that looks just like the lumberjacks of backwoods Idaho. Why pay $30 for a plaid flannel shirt jacket at Walmart when you can get the same thing for $450 at Filson? The store itself is overdecorated to a near-kitsch level that wouldn't be out of place in Disneyland's Critter Country. With safety orange t-shirts for the gun control crowd and the requisite scented candles (because the company knows the closest their customers are getting to the great outdoors is drinks on the patio), Filson is just Luxury Elmer Fudd -- backroads trailer park cosplay at Rodeo Drive prices.
