I've been visiting a lot of boutiques and gift shops on the Eastside and I've started to get a bit…read morebored. Simply put, I keep finding the same merchandise over and over again. Treehaus, on the other hand, had a ton of pieces that I've never seen before, either in Los Angeles or elsewhere. This shop carries a couple lines of interesting jewelry collections (I particularly liked the more industrial/brutalist of them), a range of adult and baby clothes and an interesting and eclectic line of eye wear. While the adult clothing skews toward femme, I would describe many of them as unisex, which fits the cool queer/feminist vibe of the shop. There were a lot of cool housewares that, again, I've never seen before. These range from the practical (metal soap dishes) to the purely aesthetic (fun art prints of famous spots in LA.) Lots of retro designs can be found to decorate your living space. Other things I really enjoyed: a human bone and organ ink stamp collection, fun notebooks and adorable stuffed animals. And of course, they had a great collection of books and cards. Prices were on par for quality. It's very middle of the road for a gift shop or boutique. The clerks on duty were friendly and personable. I would definitely have felt comfortable going to them with questions. I will definitely return the next time I'm shopping for a friend.

Not a great experience. Worker was beyond rude. Randomly…read morestumbled upon this store last week on my way to the winery next door. Thought the store was cute so my friend and I walked in to check it out. The worker didn't even greet us or acknowledge us, and it wasn't like she was busy doing anything since there was no one else in the store. We looked around for a bit and my friend asked her a question. The worker rolled her eyes and begrudgingly answered us, sounding annoyed saying something like "umm it's vintage" in a sassy tone. As my friend continued to look at a dress, I heard the worker mumble under her breath "you're not going to fit in that." We pretty much immediately walked out and the the woman visibly looked upset that we wasted her time. First off, rude. Second of all, your tchotchkes were tacky which is why we didn't buy anything. Third, the worker ruined the experience by her bad attitude. Don't know what we did to her to make her so angry in the three minutes we were in the store. Instead of going back, I would rather go to the Goodwill store a block away.

There's plenty of cute stickers and books for children and plenty of collectibles, gachapon and other goodies for adult Nipponophiles. The store also features a variety of artists whose rainbow Lisa Frank style seems to effortlessly blend in to its surroundings. I know, I know...I sound like I don't like this place. That's not true. While it's not my aesthetic, it's clearly very well curated with lots of fun things to browse through. And the staff was very nice Definitely a place to bring children and adult fans of anime and manga.

I went in searching for a gift for a 5 yo and had no clue what I wanted to get. The woman behind the counter was very helpful in pointing out a variety of potential options and then gave me time and space to browse. I love that they carry some clothing and books that are more local to LA, which made the gifts feel more unique and personal in a way. I would also much rather support local shops than massive e-commerce companies. So, I'll be doing more gift shopping here in the future!
