This location in particular seems to have overly proofed fluffy bagels, not dense and chewy with a thicker crust (which is what you get when you boil the bagels before baking.. which is the tradition ). I came in on a blustery, rainy day. I originally was going to go to Starbucks to meet a friend, but they were closed due to the severe weather. As I waited for my friend, I glanced at the menu, and the turkey and cheese sandwich stood out. I ordered the sandwich, and the employee took his time, toasting the bread and crafting a perfect looking sandwich. After he carefully wrapped it, he placed it in the bag and put napkins in there- which I really appreciate because some restaurants have the habit of never placing a single napkin inside and you mistakenly assume there are napkins in there. Anyway, I decided to enjoy my sandwich by the window as I watched the rain come down. As I waited for my friend, I enjoyed this delicious sandwich for a good price. My friend arrived, and I convinced her to get a sandwich which she agreed to because she hadn't eaten lunch. We both enjoyed those sandwiches and then we both bought a cup of noodles. And then I ordered a dozen donut holes. It was a wonderful conversation, wonderful meal, and wonderful service. There were many people that came in and out of the restaurant on that cold day. On my frequent trips to Carmel, this was always one of my half way stops to get snacks for the road. They always had such fresh donuts. And the choices were unbelievable. From cinnamon rolled donut to jelly filled to cake donuts. I have tried them all and have never left disappointed. Best donut place in Santa Barbara, hands down. I'm not sure why other Spudnuts are not as good, but trust me when I say this location knows what they're doing and they'll consistently break your diet time and time again. They've got all-star, glazed Old Fashioneds, mapple bars, rainbows of sprinkly goodness, classic donut holes, and more. They also carry breakfast and lunch style sandwiches on breads or croissants, boba smoothies and teas, bananas, tons of milks and drink options, hot coffee, and so on. For years I've come here for my favorite glazed Old Fashioned with some chocolate milk and never payed more than a couple bucks. I've even stopped by late in the evening and the donuts tasted fresh out of the oven. The parking here is not the most fantastic as it is on busy Carillo St and there are a lot of one way roads/entries around here so I'd recommend GPSing it to make sure you get there right with little frustration. You could also park at the Ralph's lot and walk across the street. The staff here have never been rude and do things in an orderly fashion. I've even done large event orders with them and had my products ready on time for pick up, hot and delicious looking. While it may not be the Ritz Carlton's of establishment I would 100% recommend trying it for the quality of donuts and best bang for your buck. read more

Nice donut shop in a small center between De La Vina and Carrillo. There are some seats inside but not much personal space between the customers eating and those that are waiting in line to be served. As it is a donut shop, there are more selections of donuts then there are bagels, sandwiches, or drinks. Not a bad thing at all, I just happened to only be in the mood for a bagel sandwich. Bagel sandwich choices were ham, sausage, or bacon. You could choose between jalapeño cheese bagel, plane bagel, sesame bagel, or a croissant. I do have to note that that bagels and croissants are probably the largest in size I have ever seen. They are bigger than the palm of my hand. However that being said, the bagels are not super thick like a regular bagel would be. The rest of the breakfast sandwich came with cheese, mayo, and egg. If you wanted cream cheese or veggies that was going to be extra $. Breakfast sandwich was tasty. Nice and buttery and really hit the spot. The donuts looked delicious. I could have passed on going in even though I do like a good donut. However, my husband thought we should try them out because they were right where we were at that time. We are visiting the area. I got a chocolate old fashioned and a blueberry cake. My husband got an apple fritter. The chocolate old fashioned looked dry as a hard tack in the bakery case, but it's one of my go-to donuts so I decided to give theirs a try. As it appeared, it was dry and hard. The blueberry cake was not as hard and dried-out but wasn't worth the calories. My husband is the apple fritter fan. He thought it was "kinda perfect." It did have bits of apple in it (and) it wasn't greasy, which some fritters are. The place itself was clean but dated. It was grey and dismal. I did notice on a back wall a lot of awards they've received over the years. Good thing my husband enjoyed the fritter since he was the one who thought we shouldn't pass up the Spudnuts opportunity. We were looking for some donuts during our trip to Santa Barbara, so I found this place. It's not exactly tip top in terms of outside appearance. Kind of shabby, actually. The inside wasn't a lot better. Apparently they only make donuts at certain times, so when I got there, the pickings were slim. We have used Spudnuts at least half a dozen times for large orders. While the quality of the donuts and bagels is pretty good unfortunately the orders are never what we ordered. On several occassions we have been very specific with our order, calling the day before and being very clear about what we want. It is confirmed on their end but then when we pick it up,we find it was not followed through at all. THIS time in particular when we picked up we asked to look in the boxes to check she said " well they are all taped shut.." hinting that it's too much of a hassle to do so.. but it was confirmed by her that it was what we ordered. When we finally did open the boxes up we found that there were several items missing that we requested... even when we made it VERY clear...we felt cheated and taken advantage of. If you don't have what we need then be CLEAR about it when we call. It's absolutely not okay to go ahead and just "give what we have" which is what she stated later. We will not be using them anymore for our donut/bagel orders but I really hope they improve their customer service and management or they will continue to have unhappy and disapointed customers... read more

These are some great donuts. I remember coming here for the very first time and thinking just how awesome it was to try a donut crafted with potato flower (hence the name). They don't taste like potatoes so don't be fooled. If you didn't know the difference, you'd think they were the exact same as the traditional variation. The location is prime, sandwiched between the 101 and State Street in the heart of downtown. It's walking distance from my house and I enjoy coming down on a weekend morning. The selection is consistently full of choices and the donuts positively melt in your mouth. I've come when they are hot out of the kitchen and they are just breathtaking. Spudnuts is known for the Cronut donuts which feature the flaky consistency of a croissant. They cost a bit more than the regular donuts here, but I'd say that they are a must-try. They also have an assortment of bagels and made-to-order sandwiches, though I haven't tried any of these. I'm sure they're awesome. Bagel maybe could have used a little more cheese and flavor, but not at all a bad snack, just a little more plain bread that I like in these. My wife and I had Dolly and her team from Spudnuts make donuts for the dessert bar at our October wedding and they were phenomenal​. They were some of the best donuts we've ever had. We spent the first couple hours of the reception trying to keep people away from the dessert bar (we posted signs, made announcements, everything), but we literally couldn't keep guests from constantly nabbing the donuts. It would have taken a dedicated security guard stationed there to keep guests away. And when we finally cut the cake, took pictures, and officially opened the dessert bar, the remaining donuts only lasted minutes. We barely got to taste them at our own wedding, but they were so good we couldn't really blame our guests for raiding the table every chance they got. Weeks later, our guests were still raving about them. Dolly was great too. Besides just making amazing donuts she worked with my wife to make sure everything was perfect. You can't really see it in the photo, but she even went above and beyond by surprising us by making the donuts match our wedding colors too (gold and blush) with light sprinkles. Spudnuts Donuts is located just off the 101 on W Carrillo Street in SB. They are in a outdoor shopping center with a lot shared by surrounding businesses. I tried their donut holes and a variation of a donut bar that had chocolate chips with light glaze on top and an interior chocolate layer. The donut holes were very dense and barely had any glaze. They weren't dense from being stale but just was very thick and not soft. The donut holes were definitely on the bland side due to the lack of glaze. $2.50 for a dozen. The donut bar was not bad. It was lightly glazed on top with chocolate chips. The interior was a thin layer of partially melted chocolate chips. The dough was lighter compared to the donut holes but was definitely on the dense side. $2.50 per bar. The presentation was pretty sloppy especially seeing how the toppings looked on the donuts such as the chocolate, glaze and maple along with their inconsistent shapes and flat cronuts. Considering the price and quality of the donut I would not recommend these donuts and do not see myself coming back. read more

Throw tradition out the door! These Spudnuts hit the donut spot using potato flour instead of regular flour. I specifically ordered the maple donut ($1.30) and was pleasantly surprised with what this delectable treat offered. It had a flaky and fluffy texture. They offered other varieties but I had to restrain myself. I had read about this donut chain located throughout the US and decided to stop by while in Santa Barbara. I saw the two Spudnuts locations are the only ones that carry them in the area, being here at 8 am, perfect time to see how many of the 6 flavors they had left. 4 left, chocolate, glazed, cinnamon sugar and maple, which I passed on, but got an apple fritter for the man instead. Just over $13 for 4 items is pretty damn expensive, so much that I actually first said "WHA?!!!! $13 really???" but went with it. So much in fact, that I drove to the other location to see what flavors they had there. I know, I'm bad. Anyways, tried these that evening, still crunchy, for sure better than the other location, well different and about twice the size for the same price. None were filled though, so they pretty much all tasted the same, I would say glazed is the one I would buy again. The apple fritter was great. The selection there is amazing, they have some donuts bigger than my head. Great stop if you are in need of some serious sugar. read more
