I'd like to think that philosophy is transferable when it comes to Mancunian foodies. You see,us North Westrians are lucky to have sibling cities such as Chester and Liverpool within half an hour's drive. I therefore make it my business to travel within this foodie heaven golden triangle as often as I can. On one such trip over the Easter weekend I stumbled upon this magnificent establishment. Wow. Mama Mia. Chamone. Superlative overload. Even Belissimo doesn't seem to cut it! We live in a world of monotonous corporate food chains. Yes, in twenty year's time Paolo & Donato's may well be one of those chains, such is the inevitability of expansion. But for now here it is, in all its glory. It was an absolute pleasure meeting Paolo the main proprietor, it's difficult to miss him actually. Wearing a genuine warm smile, his approach to greeting customers was more family like than business orientated. When you first visit this may seem a little strange, a bit like those overzealous fake smiling employees at Selfridges who ask you if you need any help every 2 minutes. (I can say that, I used to be one) Not the case here, the staff are extremely helpful and attentive. Love and affection oozes from the place. From the meticulously decorated deli counter, to the large family portrait that adorns the wall. I may just have found THE Italian go to place in the entire region. That coming from someone who hasn't even tried any of their food. No, this was just a quick pit stop for some ice-cream. Not just any ice cream folks, this was home madelicious, the good stuff. I chose a flavour I hadn't tried before, it had an Italian name that escapes me, but I'm here to report it was arguably THE most refreshing and tasty thing I've had for a long time. The sandwiches and pastry desserts looked and smelled heavenly and I have no doubt the taste buds won't be disappointed when I return to sample them. Keep an eye out for a more extensive review after my second trip. I did do my best to all but beg Paolo to open his next Deli in Manchester. He seemed very agreeable with the idea. Hallelujah P&D's is coming to Mancytown! Don't believe me? Next sun sponsored weekend, get in ya car and go check this place out peeps. You won't be disappointed, me promise!

Everything is baked in house at Cuthberts Bakehouse and they have cute teacups and saucers, which we knew his grandparents would appreciate -- a saucer is mandatory with their teacup! We were seated in the back conservatory which was really cute. It's got a glass roof and was nicely furnished with succulent planters and even a Christmas tree for the holidays. We ordered 3 Classic Afternoon Teas, 1 New York Afternoon Tea and 1 Vegetarian Afternoon Tea for the 5 of us (my husband's mom joined us as well). The portions here are pretty big, but its weighted toward the desserts. Each afternoon tea comes with a scone on top, the middle layer has freshly baked treats, and the bottom layer is savory bites. As a group we sampled from all of the afternoon teas. I liked the burger in the New York Afternoon Tea a lot and the fries which came in both the Veggie NY and NY tea. I prefer savory bites, so those were great. For the desserts, I liked the chocolate covered strawberry and the fudge bite. My grandpa-in-law loved the almond cake and my grandma-in-law loved the Victoria sponge cake. I have some dietary requirements as the moment, so there was several things I couldn't eat unfortunately, but everything did look good, but I couldn't try that many items ultimately. I guess I'll have to return! My favorite part of the afternoon tea experience was the unlimited teas, coffees and hot chocolates! How cool! I tried several loose leaf teas including the Chai, Peppermint, Berry (which was my favorite), and the Jasmine. I also tried the Dark Hot Chocolate. This was really fun and I loved trying my way through the menu!

Options include both pre-made and customized shakes. Settled for the medium "Golden Balls" (£4.70) - a vanilla shake with Fererro Rocher, Nutella, and peanut crumbles. Initial taste is not bad, lots of hazelnut flavor and some peanut chunks. However, the ice cream itself is fairly thin, and as you drink most of it through the straw, what's remaining is 60% crushed peanuts. The peanut portion is too high and without a spoon, is not possible to eat. Service here was fine as they were winding down for the night. Ratios in the shake need to be done better.

It's not a bad thing, I enjoy a milkshake, but I will admit my tastes are a little vanilla in that I only really like vanilla. In the interests of creamy discovery I decided to try and pick a different flavour, and here that took me a while. The choice of things that you can have blended into a milkshake is frankly staggering - toffee crisp, fondant fancies, jelly babies- although I find it difficult to see why anyone would choose to go for a parma violet milkshake. It is a little pricey as all of these places tend to be - I had a regular-sized 'galaxy caramel with flake topping' (one of the recommended flavours) and it cost almost £3 - but they are darn tasty. They also do a selection of wheat grass, goji berry 'body boosters' but if you're having a milkshake why would you taint it with something approaching a health food?

Came here last weekend and had a good time. First time going to a Board Game cafe place. Sugar and…read moreDice is located towards the Albert Dock area of Liverpool city centre - but just about 5 minutes walk from Liverpool One or Bold Street. We arrived and got a nice warm welcome. You pay by the hour and get to play on as many games as you want. Its £2 per hour per person, with a maximum of £5 per person. Limited to a max of 4 hours. We only stayed for an hour and played a couple different games. There was lots of different board games - some never played before, many classics and some not played for ages. But we decided to play ones we had never played before. Would be silly with all the choice just to play games we already knew (and paying for it!!). We played a game called Codenames (Picture version) which was pretty good - basically have to get teammate to cover different cards using words - actually just a single word. And ideally getting them to cover more than one card. The 2nd game we played was called Wits and Wagers. What attracted us to this game was it said it was the "Most Award winning game in History" - and about 20 different emblems on the side of box to show awards it had one. It was a simple game with combination of guessing (sometimes educated guesses) and gambling element. You get a question e.g. average number of miles travelled a year by person in America. Each person writes down their guess. Then all the guesses are revealed and each player gets to bet on which answer is the closest. So even if your own guess is wrong, you could still win. The game is clearly American based with a few questions specific to America. But it was still fine and although I was a bit rubbish at it, its good fun. You could actually create the game yourself really with a poker set for the betting tokens and would be easy to find the sort of questions. Actually some people on board game forums seem to have created a load of questions for this game - including some more UK based ones. Apart from the board games, they also serve drinks (soft drinks, tea, coffee, some alcoholic drinks) and food like bagels, toasties, soup and nachos. We only had a drink - as we were heading to restaurant afterwards. I just had an apple juice which was just £1.

I came here the first weekend it opened and oh my - it was lush! They have over 300 games to play and the owners Vanessa and Jason are so friendly. They actually help you pick out a game to play and teach it to you!! I learned how to play Go Sushi, Karuba, Bananagrams, Concept, and I even got to play my old favorite Scattergories. The coffee is a special blend made specifically for the cafe and the desserts are absolutely amazing - made by the amazing chef Rachel. There are also bagels and other non-cakey food to eat, all sourced from local places. The cafe is super clean, brightly lit, and fun! It has wacky orange and blue as it's mascot colors and it is buzzing with excitement. If you want a place to hang out and play board games with friends, or just grab a coffee and cake, this is the place to go. I guarantee you will make new friends the minute you sit down. I can't wait to go back!!

Dairy free (organic soya milk and soya ice cream) is also available - they have thought of everything, which I am really pleased about. Alternatives are available if you don't want a shake, smoothies, solo juices and fusion juices are popular. The staff are very friendly and they are great at helping you choose if you are unsure and unlike some places they do not try to direct you towards the most expensive product. I really enjoyed my trip to this establishment and came away with a big smile on my face and in my eye that means that they've got the job done. If you have children then take them for the shakes, but if you are a big kid like me then you should check it out as well.
