We wanted to take out my husband's grandparents for an afternoon tea, so I researched some top places in Liverpool and Cuthberts Bakehouse was on pretty much every list I read.
Everything is baked in house at Cuthberts Bakehouse and they have cute teacups and saucers, which we knew his grandparents would appreciate -- a saucer is mandatory with their teacup!
We were seated in the back conservatory which was really cute. It's got a glass roof and was nicely furnished with succulent planters and even a Christmas tree for the holidays.
We ordered 3 Classic Afternoon Teas, 1 New York Afternoon Tea and 1 Vegetarian Afternoon Tea for the 5 of us (my husband's mom joined us as well). The portions here are pretty big, but its weighted toward the desserts. Each afternoon tea comes with a scone on top, the middle layer has freshly baked treats, and the bottom layer is savory bites.
As a group we sampled from all of the afternoon teas. I liked the burger in the New York Afternoon Tea a lot and the fries which came in both the Veggie NY and NY tea. I prefer savory bites, so those were great. For the desserts, I liked the chocolate covered strawberry and the fudge bite.
My grandpa-in-law loved the almond cake and my grandma-in-law loved the Victoria sponge cake. I have some dietary requirements as the moment, so there was several things I couldn't eat unfortunately, but everything did look good, but I couldn't try that many items ultimately. I guess I'll have to return!
My favorite part of the afternoon tea experience was the unlimited teas, coffees and hot chocolates! How cool! I tried several loose leaf teas including the Chai, Peppermint, Berry (which was my favorite), and the Jasmine. I also tried the Dark Hot Chocolate. This was really fun and I loved trying my way through the menu! read more
