Mr Casey's American Diner is a fairly recent addition to the area and offers customers a diverse and interesting menu from which they can make their choices. As you might expect from an American diner, dishes include a range of stacked high burgers, chilli dogs and curly fries, all available at very reasonable prices. The set up of the restaurant is like something straight out of a 50's American film, giving the place a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, which is helped by the staff who are welcoming and attentive. This is why I like The Met Stop Diner. Someone decided to take a vacant space in Wythenshawe's town centre Civic Centre shopping precinct and build an American themed diner. Something different! A new angle! When you walk in, it's nice to see that they haven't half-baked it, they've gone for the full classic American diner interior, with red, white and chrome seating, condiment baskets, and a big mural of the New York skyline on one wall. The menu does try to cater for multiple tastes, with some classic English cafe classics such as the Full English Breakfast, but they have a good selection of American breakfasts too, as well as hot dogs, burgers, deli style sandwiches, and a few house specialities. My favourite part of England meets America was that on the tables there was one of those little silver ice cream dishes, which we came to realise were specifically for putting your tea bag in after taking it out of your tea! WHY DON'T MORE PLACES DO THIS?! This is such a simple idea, but I've only seen The Met Stop Diner do it so far, and they're American themed! There were three of us on this day, and we were all ready for breakfast, and so chose the American pancake stack, the Full English Breakfast, and the American Breakfast, as well as three mugs of tea. The tea came out first which was good as we all needed a brew, but as the breakfasts were cooked fresh to order, we'd drunk our tea by the time our food came out. A pot of tea might be a better idea, but it's not very American! The Full English was a standard cafe breakfast to be honest, but still decent homely stuff. The American breakfast was so substantial that it couldn't be finished, but it was agreed that the pancakes were great, as they were also on the stack of pancakes. Very enjoyable indeed. We'll definitely pop in again when we're next in the area, as the rest of the menu looks great too! The only thing I would suggest is reprinting the menus (as they were looking a bit dog-eared), and checking the spellings (Chicago, not "Chicargo"!), but if that's really the only thing I can find to suggest as an improvement, you're definitely doing something right, Met Stop! The staff are very relaxed and informal (maybe a little too much for my liking). The breakfast menu is good and value for money. Other meals include hot / cold sandwiches and salads. Overall a nice change to chain restaurants with tasty home cooked value food inc the drinks and juices. Just remember it is what is it, you can't compare this to a 5 star Michelin restaurant and certainly couldn't compare such a price either... great value and good tasting food.

I popped back last week to try them out at lunch time and to see if it was as much fun as the launch night. I ordered a red pepper houmous, avocado and montaray jack cheese toasted sandwich, or 'grilled cheese' sandwich as the americans would call it. It wasn't as cheesy as I had expected, maybe my mind has been warped by that of Northern Soul Grilled Cheese, just around the corner. In fact I'm thinking that the ham hock possibly works better than streak bacon which I hate myself for saying, but it's less salty and gives it a more rustic homey feel. Which I really enjoyed. I love my coffee and I can say their flat white was spot on for me. The staff seem great here as well, very welcoming and friendly, offering to give suggestions or anwser any questions about the food. There aren't a huge number of places even in the city centre where I can guarantee a good breakfast and a great coffee in the same spot. I'm glad to have found another to add to my list.

The menu has a Cheshire / Mediterranean mixture which is nice and reflects the owners state of mind perhaps. The summer Sunday barbecue menu however is Sheldrake's crown jewel. At £17 per head and 3 courses awaiting you, there best be some room in them tumtums I tell thee. We start off the precedings with 8 oz Cheshire rib eye steak marinated in a chef made barbecue sauce, for all of you who don'like change. For the likes of me who love bit of spice in our lives there is the garlic and mint marinated Welsh lamb rump kebab served with tzatziki dip, yowza!!! For the ladies perhaps the Chargrilled corn fed poussin with garlic and tarragon butter might tickle your fancy. Last but by no means least the vegans amongst us will be more than content with the rumptuous Thai marinated Halloumi kebab. Seriously how can you go wrong? Magnificent innings indeed. Throw into the mix a wide variety of tapas on offer and hey presto you have a Sunday barbecue you will not forget.
