We had a glass of wine and a heineken beer and willed away an hour listening to their live music there, which was good. The bar staff were very friendly. A fun place. We wanted to go to the famous Cavern Club, which is more famous as this is where the Beatles frequented the most, but it was 8 pounds entrance fee in cash for 2 people and we did not cash on us, so we went here instead. In the street there are statues one of The Beatles and good old Cilla Black.

I ordered a burger that was supposed to come with mac and cheese and an onion ring, but instead got a cheese and bacon burger. As no one came back to our table for about half an hour, I just ate it, as we were on a deadline. It was distinctly average. Dessert was far more successful - a really good chocolate brownie, with a nice addition of salty pretzels, and some ice cream. The deep-fried Oreos were also pretty ace, like little Oreo doughnuts. To be fair to WOF, our waitress took the inedible corn cakes off the bill and have us 20% off without us asking. She was rushed off her feet, as it was very busy and they seemed a bit understaffed. I probably wouldn't return in a hurry - it feels very much like American food by someone who has only seen America once on a map, let alone visited there. I had the fish n chips with curry sauce and it was fresh and tasty. I did not care for the peas. My wife had the scouse which was also very flavorful. We were able to try some local dishes with a twist and the service was good. Not a bad experience.

The food is homemade and pretty scrummy, it's served between 12pm and 7pm every day. There is a variety of real ales as well as the usual spirits and wines, which means the bar will have something to suit everyone's tastes. The sports events are shown on a big screen, and there is live entertainment at the weekends.

To my surprise, the dish was quite a heapful for a lunch and definitely value for money. The BBQ chicken was flavoursome, a little rich perhaps but delicious. For me, it was better than any restaurant I'd been to; this was far from what I was expecting for pub type food. I would certainly visit again to try their other dishes which include lasagne, fish 'n' chips and a variety of baguettes to name a few. However, when you decide to give it a try and walk inside, you realise it's a genuine nice quality Italian restaurant. It doesn't feel like a pub inside. It's warm, pleasantly decorated with wall murals and Italian themed artwork, and welcoming and friendly staff. Even the music that plays is a mix of both traditional Italian trattoria style music as you might expect, but also modern Italian music, which is a nice touch. We're seated by one of the mural walls, and given some menus. The offerings are classic Italian, but at a reasonable price. When I notice that there's the option to have any of the pasta dishes as a starter option, I ask for a carbonara. The waitress tells me that it's actually the same price to go for a full normal sized carbonara, and I could simply take some home with me... I like her thinking! We order a garlic bread to nibble on, and a starter of carbonara, and the home made chicken liver pate. Both arrive in good time. The carbonara tastes fresh and creamy, and is perfectly seasoned. The chicken liver pate is light and creamy, full of flavour, and served with light toasted rounds, and a fruit chutney. Really pleasant. I had to force myself to stop eating the carbonara so I would have enough room for my main course! The staff were happy to box up the remainder for me to take home. For our mains we decide to order the penne pasticciata, and the pizza agrodolce respectively. As we wait for our mains, our drinks are kept refreshed, and we chat with some of the members of staff, who are friendly and warm, and happy to tell us about the decor and details of the venue. The pasticciata was perfectly cooked, deliciously creamy, with plenty of meaty filling, and covered in a wonderful melted mozzarella. Very tasty, and a huge portion... very filling indeed. The pizza was definitely a hand-made base, which was perfectly crisp and had a semolina crunch to it. The ingredients were fresh and delicious, and managed to stay light, rather than many pizzas suffering from heavy and gloopy toppings. It was delicious, and also predictably, I also had to take some of this home too! As I was now stuffed and content, I sadly had no room for one of the delicious looking desserts (I'd stood at the desserts chiller counter earlier, staring through the glass like a child at the window of a sweet shop). However my partner refused to throw in the towel just yet, and ordered some chocolate profiteroles. The profiteroles were light and creamy and well complimented by the caramel sauce. The citrus zest grated on top of the cream was wonderfully fragrant, and gave the dish a fantastic little zing. All all, the food was excellent and generously portioned considering how reasonable the prices were. The atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant, and the staff were attentive and warm without being intrusive. We will most definitely return. Don't judge this book by its cover, it's not just an old pub, and it's not pubby inside, it's lovely, and a real Italian treat.

Walk in and you're greeted not only with candy for the eyes, but the same for the nose. No, not THAT kind of nose candy, even though it has a strong history with musicians (including the likes of Diana Ross, Take That, Echo and the Bunnymen and many mire), it's just that Studio 2 is one of the most nasally stimulating bars I've ever experienced. Whether it's cooking smells or cocktail aromas the place just seems to be buzzing with a scented ambience, and the chilled out bustle of its clientele and the sumptuous decor just adds more weight to that. The drinks prices are actually mighty reasonable for such a sophisticated place. Advertised as being a place for the over 30s, if you're a discerning twenty-something like me you'll be more than welcome, just as long as you adhere to the dress code. This I like - it means the bar attracts a more classy clientele and you're as likely to see a rowdy brawl break out here as you are to see the Pope become the spokesperson for safe sex. The staff are friendly, and as well as the place being a bar it's also got a great dining menu from the same brainboxes that serve the food at Alma de Cuba. Now that's a stamp of approval if ever one was needed. One of the original drum rooms serves as the dining area and the other is filled with beanbags to crash on. You can't be more chilled out than you are if seated on a bean bag. With live music every Saturday and an atmosphere perfect for someone looking for a quieter and more cultured night out - it's perfect for dates, for example - you can't argue with the quality of this place. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and I'm sure you will too.

Next to the various cocktails we gave the food a go and loved it. It got served on a big platter. It looked good and tasted delicious. I had the best chicken ever! Big "Thank You" to the chef for this experience. After the friendly staff told us about the history of the venue we enjoyed it more than before. It used to be a recording studio where Coldplay, Atomic Kitten, Take That and lot of other musicians recorded their album....sooo exciting. I can only recommand this place. Amazing venue, nice & friendly staff, delicious drinks, food and live music. We don't really have this type of venue in Germany...really a shame! I would go there every day.

I had been wandering around the Baltic Triangle for a quick lunch before my day at Liverpool Sound City and decided to give Skaus a go. Not their fault but Camp and Furnace was FREEZING. I left my coat on for the duration of my lunch. It was so cold, I knew I didn't want to order a cold drink. There was only one other filled table when I arrived at 1 PM on a Saturday. Is this normal? Note that gluten-free bread is available for their open-faced sandwiches. I ordered three open-faced sandwiches as part of the £12 lunch deal. The curried chicken and the prawn salad ones were the best and delicious. The chicken one came out with this gloriously crispy piece of bacon, rather unusual in England! A perfectly cooked egg half sat atop the prawn salad. After my leaving Scotland before I arrived in Liverpool, it was disappointing to see the smoked salmon chopped up and oversalted, but I didn't fuss about it as I was late to a session elsewhere in the neighborhood. It took forever to get my bill; the waitress just seemed to disappear, maybe they were short-staffed? I've taken down a star each for the oversalting and staff issues. By summer, this place might be great. Hope they work out the problems by then.

Wait, I don't think I'm in Brooklyn am I - that was a pretty quick trip from Manchester..?…read more I'm hanging out in Liverpool's new creative district The Baltic Triangle, an area that's full of urban decay, industrial workshops and an ever increasing population of hipster bars and coffee places - it's great :-) Being a student in Liverpool, I could only dream of a place like C and F. When I left in 2004 it was definitely the era of the chain pub against the 'actual rundown and grime' venue - but since 2008 and Liverpool being capital of culture, there's definitely a sense of renewed focus on reclaiming Liverpool's past glories on the world stage. I'm only stopping by for coffee - flat white (a bit too big for a flat white if the truth be known but looks like they've 'double shot' it, so it's got a good taste) but the menu looks great with a meat heavy choice of options ranging from chorizo burgers to schnitzels and fish and chips (all mains are £8-11) beers on tap are Amstel and Heini but their craft beers make up for it! The real reason u should make the 15 min walk from town is the decor - imagine a giant warehouse with random quality camping equipment, a giant furnace (surprisingly...) and loads of caravans - it's that unique that its a place I'm looking forward to recommending to friends already. The waitress was friendly and up for a chat (telling me more about what's going on in the area) and I would really like to stay for food - damn that big breakfast I had this morning!!

Our first experience at the restaurant was when we came down for drinks before our dinner reservation at another restaurant. The bar and restaurant were empty. I ordered Mother's Blush - gin, elderflower liquor, earl grey syrup, and tonic. The bartender couldn't find the recipe book and admitted that he had no idea how to make the cocktail. A second bartender returned to the bar and also didn't know how to make the drink, but he found the book after a few minutes of searching! We decided to sit in the hotel's lobby. My husband's drink was brought out after about 10 minutes, but they told me that mine would be another few minutes because they realized they needed to brew tea for it. Things were not boding well for MPW. I was pleasantly surprised, however, with how well the drink came out. It was very smokey, fragrant, and sweet. I was not happy that I had to drink it very quickly in order to get to our dinner reservation on time. It shouldn't take 20 minutes to get a martini, especially in a vacant restaurant. We came back the following day for afternoon tea. My husband and I split the traditional afternoon tea with champagne and the gentleman's afternoon tea with beer. Their presentation is very cute and clever. They bring it out on mini shelves, so, without a reference, it looks like you're eating an entire bookcase of food in pictures lol! The traditional was more dessert focussed but had some finger sandwiches, giving it more substance. The gentleman's had more savory components, so we figured this would be a good mix. The sticky toffee pudding and chocolate cake in the traditional were awesome. Both were moist and rich. The small bite of fried white fish and mashed peas in the gentleman's was also very tasty. Everything else was a little unremarkable. Both came with scones, which were dry. Oddly enough, you can't actually order any tea during your "afternoon tea." They don't have a tea menu. We came back for dinner the following night. They're running a special offer - 50% off of their a la carte dinner menu for the month of January, and I'd imagine they'll continue these sort of deals for the upcoming cold months. You need to sign up ahead of time on their website. Highly recommended doing so if you're eating here on a Friday, Sat, or Sunday. On these days, their less expensive set menu is unavailable, and dining a la carte without the offer is very expensive. Service was more prompt than it had been when we came for drinks and "tea." Perhaps they're better staffed at dinner. I started with the cream of pumpkin soup and my husband had the Mediterranean fish soup. Both left a lot to be desired and were ultimately a waste of money and calories. The pumpkin soup was very bland and not very pumpkin-y. We were expecting the fish soup to have chunks of fish in it, but it was a creamy pureed soup. You get the feeling that they just put whatever leftover fish they have from the day before in it. It came with roullie and gruyere cheese. The cheese and the fish soup really clashed. After the soup, a server offered us some bread. Like literally put the bread in front of us and said "bread?" I had remembered seeing that there was a charge for sourdough bread but figured it must have been complimentary, as it's really poor form to put delicious bread in patrons' faces and then charge them for it. If you're going to charge, for something, people need to actually order it. I know some restaurants have started changing for bread, but I think it's pretty tacky for a high end steak house to do so. We shared the roast rump of lamb, rib eye, and creamed cabbage with pancetta. It was all cooked and seasoned well. The rib eye came out closer to medium even though we ordered it medium rare. The lamb was very tender. I also had the porn star martini , which I really enjoyed. It's a sweet and strong passion fruit drink. By and large we had an okay experience eating at MPW. There's room for improvement in their food and service.
