We had some delicious food. Everything was good from the soup of the day to the the daily specials. I had the lamb tagine which was very tasty. The pie of the day was lamb and mint which was also good. The fishy starters and mains were yum as were the desserts of plum and rhubarb crumble ,banoffee pie and sticky chocolate sponge to name just a few.. We cannot wait for our next visit to Willaston so that we can all visit the Nag's Head again .

There is a nice shop to buy some nuts from nearby as well for the squrrels. However back to the Tap. Based as the 'downmarket' place for Ferry passengers (when the Liverpool - Eastham ferry was still in use) it's a 'sister' place of sorts to the Eastham Ferry Restaurant across the car park. Now it's a flourishing olde worlde pub with the pride of place in the bar going to the Ex-HMS Liverpool's bell. Good beer and three 'real' ales that regularly get drunk dry by it's most frequent customers, bikers. Yes the purveyors of the steel steed come here often but only because of the excellent views of the Mersey with the three graces in one direction and the glittering lights of speke airport in the other. Well, you can't get more authentic than a thatched roof and a bunch of friendly locals now can you? Sigh, even at the tender age of 26 I'm thinking this is the sort of place I could happily retire. In wintertime I imagine this pub would feel especially cosy, with a roaring fire and snug little corners. The drink prices are pretty normal really, rather reasonable and food-wise it actually has an award-winning chef at the helm. The restaurant is kind of separate but it's still perfectly acceptable to grab a few beverages and take them through with you. There's plenty of choice and everyone is well catered for, including vegetarians, plus the desserts are really something else and everything is truly homemade.
