A friend knew of my love for chicken fried steak and suggested trying Spud Shack (3811 Center St). I recently enjoyed a great CFS for breakfast at a place nearby there called Ken's, so I was happy to see if lightning would strike twice. Boy, I did it! Spud Shack offers much more than just CFS. Stuffed baked potatoes of every variety, of course. You have to look quite carefully at the menu to find the CFS, but you definitely won't miss it when you see this gargantuan hunk of fried heaven come out of the kitchen! A lot of times, huge CFS's turn out to be all breading, no meat, and no flavor. Not this one. The meat is an excellent round pounded tender. the breading is just the right consistency, and the cream gravy is the kind you want to lick off the plate. Trust me, I did. Of the many sides, I went with the sensational mashed potatoes and some of the best sautéed squash I've ever eaten. read more

Really wanted to like this place after seeing all the facebook pictures but what you see is not accurate. Friday buffet supposed to be all you can eat catfish which they didn't want to serve or make. The buffet does not look like the picture and when we tried to order it, we were talked out of it saying order from the menu if we want fresh food (we were the only customers in restaurant when we arrived)! That really bummed me out because i would have liked to have salad bar. We ended up paying just as much as buffet would have cost for a plate of shrimp and catfish and salad was not included. The salad bad was stocked but the fish and shrimp baskets on the buffet were completely empty. Also overheard him on phone telling customer $3.99 crawfish special advertisement on fb is not accurate either. Sorry to say will not be returning. read more

Gave this place a try because I've been seeing them post on social media that business is slow. I can see why. Walking up to the place I almost turned around just because how dirty the glass door was. Walked in to order and there was this awkward stare off because we didn't know we were expected to order as soon as we walked in before being seated. (Poor customer service) I ordered stuffed tots and when we bit into them, the center was still frozen. I didn't expect the seafood pot to be fresh but the crab legs almost felt plastic. My wife ordered a bake potato, ate a small portion and pushed it aside. read more

However, I am leaving them a rating of one star because I have reached out to them a few times over the course of the year and they always fail to respond to me. I really wanted to order a few of their thanksgiving meals and got ignored on several occasions. Don't use Facebook for advertising if you plan to ignore everyone who reaches out to you. read more

It was my first time eating here today, the food wasn't good. The ranch tasted sour, and the potato I ate was okay but everything was drowned in salt. I also ordered the salad bar and the lettuce looked really old and the eggs were not cooked right. Waited close to 30-35 minutes for a single potato and got home and it wasn't even what I ordered!!! Went here for lunch with coworkers on 3 different occasions and it was terrible each time. This place is just so unorganized. The same kid who was working the counter taking orders also is trying to run orders to tables and clean up tables when he/she can. All 3 times we went there was nowhere to sit because every available table was dirty. The salad bar is awful, the boudin balls are decent, and the baked potato's are blah. Each time we have been they have forgotten to bring out something we ordered. Until I see better reviews, I will not be back. read more

Terrible food, terrible customer service. Ordered two supposedly brisket loaded baked potatoes. IF there was any brisket on these, it would need a microscope to find. They were covered in cheap, hard 'bacon bits'. Undercooked potato. Just disgusting. For $13 plus tax, you could go ANYWHERE and get an actual meal that you don't want to put in the trash. Terrible customer service. I walked in and had to look at menu, as it was the first time I had been there. The man behind the counter just walked away. It took him 15 min to come back. I ordered, and he walked away. Some other people came in and the man at the register never showed up, even after I told another worker how long the people had been waiting. He just said "it's ok". EVERY table was covered with used dishes, mostly smelly bowls of crawfish leavings, and it was so disgusting. Two workers there in the front, at least, and neither of them could clear the tables or take customer's orders? I won't ever go back again, and I hope to prevent others for wasting their own time and money. read more

This place is really dirty! I walk in and every table that doesn't have someone eating has trash trays and food. The tables had stuff on the and my fork was greasy. I was looking forward to a good baked potato. That didn't happen. I honestly don't think the posted pictures on their website or Facebook page are legit. As soon as we got there it was a turn off to see dirty dishes on the outside tables especially since it wasn't busy at all. The day we went they had bbq buffet I asked if we could take a look. No thank you, all the meat looked dry and as a side they had Kraft Mac and cheese even that looked reheated. At that point we should have left, but we ordered baked potatoes and a side salad. The salad bar needs a good cleaning the bacon bits were raw, the olives had a filmy layer on top of the juice and the thousand island dressing tasted like taco seasoning. Still looking forward to my baked potato.... it didn't happen. It was overcooked and brown not even hot. Drenched in bbq sauce. My husband's baked potato had "brisket" but it looked like and tasted more like chuck roast. The whole place needs a good cleaning there were random utensils on the floor under tables. NEVER GO HERE! THE OWNER WILL NOT GIVE YOU ANY REFUND BECAUSE YOU TAKE TWO BITES OF A CRAPPY POTATO! The manager on staff had to call someone because he didn't know what to do. The "lady" he called stated that we would get a credit because we ate most of the food. There was more than half of both meals ordered and 3 bites from the mac and cheese. Terrible management. Their food had no flavor. It tasted like I was eating a plain potato with mayo all over it. I got the flaming chicken, the Mac and cheese with hot cheetos, and the salty Texan. The Mac and cheese needed seasoning and it was super runny plus they didn't even crunch of the hot cheetos to make them easier to eat while all your noodles and sauce fall off your utensils. The chicken wasn't even flaming. There was literally no spice or even salt in anything. Will never go again. Both potatoes were cold, the cheese wasn't even melted.
