Just a few gifts for my plant loving kids who live out of town.

What a great shop!! I love house plants and Spruce has such a unique variety of healthy plants as well as great planters, plant related gifts and cards. If you haven't found this shop yet and you like house plants, I suggest you go!! I got some cute gifts for my plant loving kids and I have to admit I bought myself a Spruce T-shirt! Also, the young woman working today was a pleasure. She greeted me warmly and had a cheerful disposition. She obviously loves her job. I watched her assist several customers with suggestions for gifts and plants. I highly recommend Spruce for all you plant lovers or if you need to buy a gift for a plant enthusiast!

I LOVE this shop! Conveniently located at the St. John's Town Center. If you're in the area stop by and pick up some "happy." Lol I really should start by saying that I have a brown thumb. Not because I'm Filipina, I was given this nickname by my sisters because I could never keep a plant alive. As much as I tried, they just never survive...me. LOL Until now, I just always admired all of my sister's thriving plant babies in her home. I actually stopped in because my sister (who lives in SC) heard about this shop and sent me in to look for a specific plant. I can't even remember the name now but whatever it was, they were sold out. Despite that plant not being available, I stayed and browsed for a while. Asked questions about care and was given some tips. I felt confident after receiving those tips so I bought a couple for myself. The shop doesn't only have plants. They carry a whole variety of items from pots, T-shirts, bags, jewelry, paper items, etc. I love that they feature a lot of items made by local artisans too. They also carry drinks! My husband purchased Recess. It's a beverage that's supposed to help you stay cool, calm, and collected. He said it was delicious and refreshing. I'm sure he needed it with me taking forever in the store. Lol I could stay there all day! I mean there is a couch in the back. Lol. Several aesthetically pleasing spots to take those IG pictures too. Be sure to check their website or social media accounts. They often have pop ups or host classes from yoga to charcuterie board making lessons. (Actually took the charcuterie class taught by Dea Howald - so fun! Dea is amazing!) Spruce is one of my happy places. Go check them out! Btw, a Swiss cheese plant I purchased there months ago is still alive! The tips helped. Lol *high five-ing myself* . Time to pick up a few more plant babies. My thumb is turning greener by the week. Haha

I'm OBSESSED with my Philodendron Birkin and marble pot!

This company & crew are amazing! I needed sod replaced and hired this company based a…read morerecommendation. I was not disappointed. Hickory Creek nursery showed up as scheduled. They are a no nonsense company and obviously know what they are doing. Quality of sod is so much better than what the local hardware stores carry. For sod, I highly recommend Hickory Creek nursery located at 12615 Ivylena Rd Jax FL.

Support local small businesses! Many years ago I learned about how those who grow the plants that…read moreend up at the big home improvements stores and big box stores get paid- or don't get paid. Any plants that die on site, even if the store doesn't water properly or puts them in the wrong sun/not sun spot, any returns of dead plants equates to the grower not getting paid. This rubbed me the wrong way, when I heard it. I am going to be honest- I still end up buying plants from said stores, but I do pop into various nurseries and try to support their small business. Since I broke out of apartment jail- I have plans for the house! For the yard- don't ask me what those plans are.... it's a vague concept right now. But as the young lady asked me what I wanted- ha! I want jasmine- shows me various jasmine plants! Yippee. I am thinking of maybe putting a tree in the front yard- those are in the back. Ok- I'll walk back there, or hop in the convenient golf cart with my plant guide! Zoom~ we are rolling up and down aisles of trees! John was thinking live oak which I love, but then I saw they had weeping willows! WHAT!??!!! And a weeping bottle brush! I need to do research and ask the hoa before diving into a tree purchase! I was looking over azaleas, hibiscus, sod (I need some for my front yard) and various other plants! They even had blueberries! hmmmm. Generally speaking- my thumb is green. I ended up with Jasmine and Honeysuckle and had to lay both down in my car- because they both had trellis attached and were pretty big. John caught me when I got home! In my work dress, with 2 massive plants, one on each hip. I did change into jeans before digging into the earth! I can't wait to go back for more! March should bring more varieties of flowering plants- good tip to know! And peak season will bring Sunday hours (currently closed on Sundays)- aka, March- April! This place is HUGE and they are right there to greet you and assist with anything you want to look at!

Two trees were in small containers and they have done wonderfully well after planting! However, the two larger trees have struggled for three years and one of the trees is slowly falling to pieces. The one that is clearly going to die had a cut main root when it was planted. I was told by the staff that it would live if it survived the year. It survived but is not going to be here by next year. The other large tree is struggling but might make it. I've recently read that when planting trees from containers you must unroll the root ball. I know this wasn't done and I suspect it is the main problem. The dying tree can easily be rocked back and forth and could probably be pushed over. The roots have not spread out. I've used other Shaw service with good results but I don't think I will in the future.
