This price was for the set menu and a glass of wine. My pregnant wife wasn't drinking.

My pregnant wife and I traveled from California to London anticipating what we hoped would be a tremendous dining experience at Spring. It was not. We were actually warned by friends to book dinner reservations somewhere else, as they had a very bad experience at Spring themselves. We should have taken that advice. The most inexcusable part of our evening was how we were treated by one of the male servers for our table. He was incredibly disrespectful and dismissive. He must really despise pregnant women. He treated us like dirt. He treated us like we weren't worth his time or that we didn't deserve to be there. He talked back to us and gave us attitude the entire evening. We spent nearly 500 pounds on dinner and you would think you'd be treated not only fairly but with exceptional service. Neither happened. The place itself is beautiful but the second most disappointing part of our evening was the food. It was so incredibly unexceptional. SO disappointing. The salad was so bland and flavorless. The pasta was good but also so boring and forgettable and so poorly presented. Every server was so rushed and the food came out almost falling off the plate/bowl. The steak was the most disappointing. So poorly cooked. It was the equivalent of a good meal on an airplane. Please do not make the mistakes we made by spending SO much money for an evening of disrespect, horrible superior and arrogant attitudes and unexceptional food. We were so disappointed and let down.

Stracciatella with fennel, pink grapefruit, artichokes and dill

This absolutely beautiful restaurant is located inside the new wing of the Somerset House. The service was fantastic. For starters we got the Stracciatella with fennel, pink grapefruit, artichokes and dill which was so tasty, fresh and delicious. It was extremely well balanced. For dinner we got the wild halibut with roasted endive and blood orange butter and the braised Viola artichokes with winter tomatoes and chickpea pancake. These dishes were both absolutely outstanding. I couldn't recommended this place enough and will absolutely return.

I am very shocked that this restaurant only has six reviews. In that case, it is one of the best kept culinary secrets. This restaurant is located inside the Somerset House. When you walk in there is a beautiful indoor garden area with available seating. Since we were here for dinner there was no one sitting here but have heard that this area is quite popular for brunch. This garden gives the entire restaurant a very tranquil feeling, which is always nice before a great meal. We sat at the intimate bar and had a cocktail before we were seated. Classy cocktails done right. Also, I have to mention the bathrooms, yes the bathrooms, just gorgeous. There were fresh peonies everywhere, white candles, and beautiful art deco chevron tiles. Swoon... We were seated at a great table with a large window with a wonderful view. All of the dishes were absolutely perfect, a favorite was the homemade pasta and dessert, which was a lemon pie with tomatillo sauce. Everyone we interacted with, from the hostess when we first walked in, to the bartender and our waiter, was a pleasure. This was our first stop while in London and it set the right mood for the rest of our trip. Bravo chef Gyngell.

Bitter chocolate tart with muscat sabayon (£9)

This was a beautiful restaurant with fantastic decor, high ceilings, and was a fancy, nice place that you'd go on a date, or celebrate a special occasion. The food was good, but didn't really blow me out of the water, especially not for the price tag that went along with it. I went with 4 people total, and the bill came out to ~$85 per person, which didn't really include more than 2 alcoholic drinks for the entire table (not per person). Quite pricey in my opinion, given other alternatives for fine-dining in London. I liked the bread & butter a lot, with 2 different kinds to choose from and enough for 2 pieces per person at the table. We ordered a few appetizers to share for our party of 4, each got an entree, and couldn't agree on a dessert, so ordered all 4 options from the menu. The main dish was better than the appetizers, and I didn't really care for the desserts. I'd skip the dessert here and go somewhere else to get ice cream. Appetizers: - Crab cobb (£16) - This was prettier than it tasted - the plating had a lot of colors, leaves, and shredded pieces of crab. I don't think this was super memorable, there was only enough for a spoonful or 2 spoonfuls per person. I'd pass on this too. - Burrata with San Daniele, cime di rapa and chilli oil (£16) - The burrata was fine, but nothing to really write home about. Not super memorable in my book. - Tagliolini with creme fraiche & sage (£16) - For the price, this was a small amount of pasta. It almost tasted like mac & cheese - it was creamy and cheesy, and good, but I thought there might be something else than just thin noodles and cheese. It was fine, but I don't think I would get this again if I came back. Main: - Wild seabass (£32) - This was my favorite dish of the meal, but it came with a really steep price point, for a fillet of fish on top of some vegetables. It was also swimming in butter, and everything in butter is always good, but this was almost a little too much. Desserts: - Bitter chocolate tart with muscat sabayon (£9) - This was my favorite of the desserts but I love anything that has chocolate in it. I'd probably get this again, but didn't find it to be so unique - I've definitely had similar desserts like this before. If you like chocolate that is dark, not super sweet, and more of a ganache, this will be right up your alley. - Summer pudding with creme fraiche (£9) - I had no idea what a summer pudding is, but apparently it's a cake soaked in berry juice with berries. I found this to be quite tart and sour, and didn't really care for it at all. - Buttermilk panna cotta with ice cream (£9) - I didn't think I was going to like this at all, but it was pretty good. I wouldn't say it was my favorite of the bunch, but some others in my group said it was their favorite of all the desserts. Overall, I'd give this place 3.5 stars. Not bad food, but not great for the price that you will end up paying. I think there are other higher end restaurants in London, or even not-as-fancy ones with better food. Nice decor and ambiance, but I don't think I'd make a special trip to come here again.

This is simply a lovely spot for a meal in London. Somerset House is magnificent, particularly in the evening. It is enchanting! Spring has a wine list which is carefully selected and full of surprising choices. This is also true of their bar service which is equally good. The food is some of the finest I have had in London. This is a British restaurant with continental influences. The lamb I had was delicious and my salad was flawlessly prepared with a light dressing and a fresh mixed green medley. The sea bass was perfection! The desserts were less impressive but quite good. The emphasis here is on British farm sourced foods and produce. Spring succeeds quite nicely with this goal! Service is equally refined. Lovely decor rounds out a beautiful but unstuffy dining experience. If you wish to impress (and can afford their prices) Spring should not be missed when traveling to London.

Lovely ambiance, passable service, but this is for deep pocket foodies. 21 quid for five tiny, but good tasting, scallops set the tone. Another esoteric menu place for the expense account crowd. Do check the menu and consider your guest's prefs. This will impress some, no doubt...but a basic soup or salad starter is nowhere to be found.

I've been looking forward to visiting Duck & Waffle for quite some time. The views are incredible,…read morethe space itself is striking, and on paper it promises that perfect London mix of skyline, late-night energy, and elevated comfort food. Unfortunately, our experience was soured before it even had a chance to begin. My girlfriend and I walked in excited, completely amicable, simply hoping to head upstairs for a bite and drinks. We were greeted by the doorman with an immediate, dismissive "Are you good?" -- not in a welcoming or helpful tone, but in a way that felt skeptical and unnecessarily confrontational. There was no warmth, no "welcome in," no attempt at hospitality. It immediately set an uncomfortable tone. He then proceeded to call upstairs as though he were doing us some sort of favor just by allowing us to go up. The entire interaction felt transactional and judgmental rather than gracious. First impressions matter, especially at a place that positions itself as a premium dining destination. Hospitality begins at the door, not at the table. When we finally made it upstairs, the room was filled with visibly drunk, rowdy groups -- which only made the earlier attitude feel even more misplaced. If that environment is acceptable (and profitable), then two polite guests looking for drinks and food shouldn't be met with suspicion at the entrance. By that point, the damage was done. The initial interaction had already rubbed us the wrong way, and the energy upstairs didn't help. We ultimately decided to leave before even sitting at our table. That's how strongly the first impression impacted us. It's difficult to justify staying somewhere when you don't feel genuinely welcomed from the outset. Duck & Waffle has the potential to be memorable for all the right reasons. But someone representing the brand at the very front needs to understand that hospitality isn't optional -- it's foundational. A simple, respectful welcome would have changed everything. I hope management takes this seriously, because no guest should feel judged or dismissed before they even step inside.

They are located just outside downtown London and near the financial district. After a long underground ride, we arrived at a classic looking British pub. We were seated downstairs in a very busy dining hall that looked like a proper hunting lodge kitchen. For Christmas eve, the place was packed with large groups celebrating the holidays. We ordered the sea snails with garlic / butter and sourdough, and deer tartar with game chips, mustard, bone marrow and toast. These were good and had a very rustic flare. For dinner, I ordered the red legged partridge, spelt, njuda and kale. The partridge was tough and not much flavor. The spelt and njuda was fantastic and a real flavor bomb. My first spelt encounter but definitely not the last. The kale was fine. The meal was solid but nothing to write home about. The atmosphere and setting was good along with the service. The burger was terrific for example. They also sat us at a weird table in the back that was difficult for the servers to get to and had sound reverberate so the loud table next to us just dominated the sound in the room. However, I must say in my two dining experiences at Karpo....I found none of the above to be true, and in fact quite the opposite. First of all, its not REALLY a hotel restaurant. Yes it has an entrance from the Megaro Hotel and provides their in-room dining, but it really seems much more of a "stand-alone." Room Service: A pleasant gentlemen delivered me a spread including: hot tea, lam shank with asparagus and pea puree, mac 'n cheese and a vegetable medley. I didn't have any expectations much, just needed a warm meal on a Friday evening after a particularly exhausting week. And...there it was. It arrived within 20 minutes, fresh, hot and satisfying. I actually remarked to myself that the lamb was some of the best I've had. Certainly not typical "room service" fare. I enjoyed it so much, I headed down for brunch the following morning before tackling all that is London. I perched myself at the bar, enjoyed a double espresso followed by an Americano (told you the week was long!) and then indulged in the eggs benedict. Its not usually my type of dish, but of the few brunch options this seemed to be the best bet for some protein to sustain me through the day. It arrived within 10 minutes, and was delicious. Also, each interaction with the staff was delightful. Including when one of their "regulars" sat beside me and was blitzed out drunk at noon. Not an issue for me, but after being quizzed on the bio of the British Prime Minister (before coffee!) and then told to take a (expletive) taxi back to the States if I wasn't going to learn the ins and outs of the British Parliament...the staff jumped into high gear, distracting the...errr...passionate gentlemen so that I could enjoy my breakfast. A nice gesture, and I was appreciative. Otherwise the service was also good...all smiles and quite warm and friendly, while staying efficient. Cost of both meals (on my hotel bill): 43 GBP.
