This was our third time dining here. I went down a star and gave it 4 stars this time instead of 5. The reasons: The lounge seating is all high top tables with bar stool seats without a back. The special trio of prosciutto tacos fell short. They were served on a large mound of salt and the taco shell was more of a waffle potato chip shell. The flavors didn't mesh well. The main shrimp dish had more of a Cacio de Pepe sauce as opposed to the cognac sauce the menu described. Lasagna and the gnocchetti cacio de pepe were very good and the shining star of the main course was the chicken Milanese which had a crispy outside and moist and tender with a citrusy dressing. The hazelnut gelato was delicious, it had a strong hazelnut flavor which we all loved. The pistachio crème brûlée could have had a little more pistachio flavor. Our server was great! Came here on a Sunday for happy hour. I really wanted to sit outside but as the weather is starting to get cooler it was a bit chilly. Plus the outdoor beer garden isn't open on Sundays, so we decided to sit inside at the bar. The bar is small - only about 7 or 8 seats but there are a couple tables in that area. The happy hour deal is great!! You get your choice of cocktail + a small mini appetizer for $10. I think there were about 4 or 5 cocktails to choose from and 4 apps, which are bite sized minis from a regular appetizer -- it's a great way to taste test what's on the menu. All of the food was excellent. The only dish I didn't love is the octopus but I can be pretty picky about that. Our bartender Shelton was cool. He chatted with us most of the time, gave us reccos and gave us 3 month aged homemade limoncello when we were finished. My only gripe was the owner -- it felt like he didn't want Shelton talking to us so it made the vibe a little weird. Overall, very cute place for date night inside or outside!! Tasty food and great drinks. All the servers were cool, too. And I think this is a historical site as well. read more

Went here for brunch and the food was great. I had a grilled chicken sandwich, but there were other food that I got to try like the burger, ant the pasta and shrimp. The service was great and even the ambience was very impressive as this place used to be a house, but they did an amazing job to transform it into a restaurant. We met friends in Tenafly for dinner. They had booked Spring House which we had never been to. Ambiance was nice. Felt like we were dining in a very large house with many rooms. Lighting was a little dark but not too dark. I had the Spring House old fashioned which was excellent. My Wife had the lychee martini also yummy. We started with grilled octopus which was fantastic served with hummus and greens and an order of calamari which was nicely done. For entrees we got the turbot special, branzino, steak frites, and a chopped garden salad. All were excellent. Service was really good. Every bite was perfect. I would recommend for sure. Casual setting for fine dining. Valet parking and live music outside. Really liked it here. read more

Was excited to try Spring House and went in early on a Saturday. The website hours, google hours, etc are all over the place and even the outside sign says something else. Not sure if opening is 4:00 or 4:30 but wanted to get there for A quick Happy Hour before our dinner reservation. Happy hour was excellent. Even the small bites were good. Temperature was off but gorgeous bar and seating as well as excellent drinks. Super snappy girl with blonde hair at the hostess stand should check her attitude but after Happy Hour we got seated upstairs which was lovely. Food was good. We started with the octopus and the Greek Salad. Octopus was sitting on a nice bed of hummus. Both excellent. Greek salad just okay. The peppers should be de-pitted and sliced but salad very fresh. Probably won't order again. For dinner we had the lasagna and the Capellacci. The lasagna was good but the temp wasn't even warm. I think the walk from the kitchen to upstairs might have been a factor? However the other dish was perfect. Both entrees were very good and plentiful. One thing I didn't understand is why can't the server bring bread until an order is placed? Sometimes I like to have a piece of bread while I review dinner options. Something the restaurant should look into. Enjoyed the beauty of the restaurant and will return for the outdoor patio when the weather gets nicer. Came back once more in early November after the menu changed, hoping things had improved. Instead, the restaurant felt secondary to the bar. A DJ was booked, and loud bar music spilled into the dining room, clashing with the restaurant's music and ruining the experience. Two-top tables are crammed so tightly that tables have to be moved just to sit down. Uncomfortable and unnecessary. The shishito peppers were good--as always. I've had them nearly every visit, and they've been consistently solid. The Tuscan kale salad recommended by the waiter was bizarre. When it arrived, we thought it was the wrong dish. Despite calling it his favorite, he didn't seem to recognize it. Fruity, with dried fruit and tortilla chips. The cappellacci ($42) was severely undercooked and inedible. The chicken parm was the final straw. Burnt, oily, and buried under Parmigiano, making it overwhelmingly salty. At $38, it's hands down the worst chicken parm I've ever had. After speaking with the manager, he genuinely seemed to care, and I briefly considered coming back. That ended when I saw a recent review describing the chicken parm exactly as I remembered it. This place is absolutely beautiful, with a great ambiance and very good food. The prices are reasonable overall, though I was surprised by a 20% large group surcharge for our party of eight. Service, however, left much to be desired. When I checked in, I was questioned about why my reservation was for two when I was expecting more guests. The tone felt more like a reprimand than a simple inquiry, especially considering the area I reserved was nearly empty. Our server was polite but insisted we place our entire order--including appetizers and entrées--all at once. While I've experienced this at other restaurants, it limits the dining experience and prevents guests from sampling the menu and deciding on the main course at a comfortable pace. As a result, I had to wait for two members of our party before we could even begin with appetizers. Overall, the food and ambiance were impressive, but the service and attitude of the staff could use significant improvement. read more

This place was subpar. The food was OK. The octopus was slightly overcooked, calamari was pretty good, the meatballs were tasty. The lamb top meatballs were a little dry. I did not like the lasagna, it was not your typical lasagna with sauce, it was made with béchamel sauce, it had a weird tang to it. The steak frites was OK from all my friends who ordered it. The head on shrimp was pretty disappointing because it was expensive and you could barely eat the whole shrimp, and it was just served with a small dollop of polenta. It would've been nice to have more for the price that you pay. Lastly the salmon, it was OK. It was served skinside up, Had a nice crisp on the skin but it lacked flavor and was served with about four potatoes. Some of my friends ordered the chicken Milanese, which is pretty good. Everyone had ordered some cocktails and cocktails, which were also pretty good. There was about nine of us and the total bill was approximately $900. I came here to RAVE about this amazing addition to town! We were instantly given a warm welcome by the sweet hostesses AND the amazing chef, Paco. Our waiters Israel and Jorge as well as the lead bartender Matt were also wonderful to us. The ambiance is unique and lovely; a very nicely restored home with a high-end feel, and a more casual and fun outdoors. Every room has a different vibe and the upstairs private bar room is very cool and intimate. On to the delicious food & drinks: we were a group and tasted many things & loved it all. This was a great find. On a first time visit, my wife and I ventured to go to a new place. Once again Yelp assisted with the Spring House. Looks like a converted old house that probably in the summer must be alot of fun. With outside tables burgers beers etc. However, it is January with snow on the ground, that is a long time coming. However, I have to say the place is a comfy quaint place with a decent bar area. They also have a upstairs good for private parties and a bar area as well. Now the food why we are here. We started with the meatballs you choose either 2 or 9. Strange how about 2 , 5 , & 9 but I digress. They were very tasty accompanied with crostini. I'm first generation Italian and yet the meatballs are legit. My wife ordered the lasagna Bolognese ragu, Parmigiano Reggiano, Bechamel. I ordered the Cappellacci Homemade meat-filled pasta with short rib and Porcini ragù, Fulvi Pecorino Romano. The lasagna was very cheesy and in a good way. Delicious and served in a dish that keeps it hot. My wife loved it. I ordered the Cappellacci which I truly enjoyed. Many times other restaurants use a mushroom sauce with truffle, is too thick. At the Spring House was done perfectly. Only drawback is the wine bottles are heavily priced. Albeit the wine was good but 98 dollars.. come on that's excessive.. We ended it with chocolate Gelato served with two little waffle cones. Perfect. Lastly the service from Lana was very good. The mgr, as well as one of the chefs, visited and checked in to ensure your night is going well. That means alot to me. Everything was very good and they will see us again. read more

Well, I was unfortunately underwhelmed by this new iteration. I had been in town when Spring house was a cafe juice bar and it was quaint and good. As a restaurant it fell flat for me. It's a lovely house with many rooms but all the door ways make the front (bar,host stand, stairs to upstairs dining) totally chaotic- with servers, runners and hosts rushing around while you are waiting for a table... the decor in the dining room is quite chill, neutrals with gold accents. Nicely done. The food - meh unfortunately. Stuffed squash blossoms - fried. Not crispy. Filled with ricotta - maybe excessively filled - and with marinara (boring) I excited to have Argentine head on shrimp - I love whole shrimp. The dish lacked flavor served in a light tomato broth they called a stew with polenta - it was one note. My mother's salmon she says was good and flavorful. Server forgot our shishito peppers - I decided not to press him on that. Wines by the glass. Pretty boring here too. Whites - 2 chards, 2 Sauvignon Blancs and a pinto Grigio... Reds - other than a Pinot Noir from Oregon the rest were big bold reds (for summer) mostly cab based or part of blend, (Cab, Cab, Super Tuscan (Sangiovese and CAB) Malbec and Amarone....) Cocktails had a Negroni and that was lovely. The bottle list had a bit more depth of course. The service was nice at the beginning but either he became too busy or we didn't order enough to warrant extra attention at the end but it was like throw the check and go.... VERY loud - not sure why but acoustics in our room were not good. Mom and I could barely hear each other even before the dining room was full. I had high hopes and they weren't met. Oh well. Solid food, very friendly waitstaff. The menu has plenty to choose from. My food was ok but a bit on the dry side and could've been seasoned more. That said, everyone else absolutely loved their food. So I think I might have ordered the wrong thing for my main course. My appetizer was a Greek salad which tasted fine - but I'm not a fan of being served whole peppers stem and all. I do wish they cut them down. I also had the Tuna Tartare and I loved it. Dessert was delicious. The interior is fine but not for a sexy date night. The lights are too bright and the feeling is a little clinical. The music also wasn't right for the venue. It was pop music. The right music choice is crucial to set the tone and mood of a restaurant. I think this is good for families and large parties - nothing intimate. Price wise I think it's fair. Here we are 2.5 hours before my wife's birthday dinner and I check my email only to find our reservation is cancelled. No call, no text only an impersonal email sent hoping I would see it before making our journey over. I call the establishment without success multiple times. So here I sit scrambling over what I should do next for her birthday .... This is unacceptable, extremely rude and they have zero empathy for their decisions. My family was excited to experience their menu and their mother's birthday which now has become an unfortunate scramble for me to pick up the pieces and move on. I run a 8+ million dollar eatery in NYC and let me tell you these guys don't have it right. It's sad but nearly 100% of all the Bergen county restaurants lay in the Culinary Graveyard of despair and I was really pulling for Spring House to join the few that stand out. The answer is no... Special occasion? Good luck. Reservation? Maybe it will be honored. Food? Couldn't tell you but based on leadership there it's likely sub par with a premium cost. This is not how you treat people or do business. One can only hope a honorable individual takes over and makes this what it should be. Shame on all of you. read more

Terrible! We were celebrating my friend's birthday and got treated with terrible service! We waited at least 30-45 minutes for our food. The food was okay but no where near worth it for the long wait. (Especially since there were hardly any people in the restaurant.) Then, after finishing our okay meal, we got dessert and asked for a candle to celebrate my friend's birthday. We got served our dessert but no candle at all. The waiter didn't say sorry and was completely rude. Overall, the food was okay, the service terrible, and the location and interior were fine. Won't be back any time soon. read more
