This place was recommended to us by some locals. It's a house that has been converted to a restaurant. You enter through the front door and walk into the smoking section of the place. They have a non-smoking section as well. The house looks horrid, inside and out. However the staff is very friendly and the service is quick. The food on the other hand... Some of the best breakfast we've eaten. The biscuits are homemade, I got 4 strips of bacon, and the portions are huge. I would have given 5 stars but it's tough to look past the smoking and the condition of the building. read more

We loved this place for an early Sunday morning breakfast. I would have rated higher but want folks to realize that this is a good ole down home country cookin kind of place. It's in a little non-descript old house that seems to have a good following of locals on this Sunday morning. Being from Austin, Texas I realize that some of the best food is not always served in the fanciest dining establishment. So, if you can accept the "down home" appeal the staff at Spring Creek Cafe will serve you up some of the best eggs over medium, home made biscuits and gravy, hash browns, and bacon that you can find anywhere! I will admit that the coffee may need a little tweaking but the character of this place more than makes up for it. The restaurant is run out of a small, old house located off the main drag in a mostly residential area. The first room you enter is the smoking section and it's full of chain smoking locals, so you have to pass through this room to get to the non-smoking area. The food is fair to average at best. Their sausage gravy starts out as a powdered mix. How do I know? Because there were empty boxes of the stuff strewn around the dumpster in the parking lot. Breakfast was kind of greasy. Delicious food, amazing prices, super friendly wait staff, and more food than you can possibly eat. I felt like we cheated them, the prices were so low! The biscuits and gravy are delicious. Our 8 year old scarfed two biscuits and the gravy in less than 10 minutes and mmmmm'd all the way through them! There are downsides to this place, but I think the food makes it totally worth it. This is in an old house, renovated to be a restaurant. It isn't the cleanest place I've ever been in. Kind of like a Waffle House lol. We stumbled on this place on a rainy Saturday morning while camping near the current river. With the river officially closed for floating because of high waters we decided to go into 'town' and waste some time before resuming the normal camp fire activities for the weekend. Best random find in a long time, the breakfast is delicious, pancakes are huge, and the biscuits are some of the best I have had. And the price is so cheap I actually felt like I was ripping them off and tipped them a bit higher than the normal 20%. The only real complain is they still offer smoking section, and you have to walk through this section to get through to the non smoking room. I hope to eventually stop in and try the lunch, but so far I have only had the pleasure of trying their breakfast on a few occasions. read more

I took my kids Sunday morning to this place not knowing what we get and we got great service good home style food and really big portions now they are only open till 1:30 on Sunday but can also cook you lunch or dinner anytime too Saturday closes at 1:30 also and plan closed on Monday so you better get your but down there Tuesday thru Sunday so you can eat real good!! This place is small, cramped, smoke-filled, and delicious. It's a tiny, dirty house, in a neighborhood that someone converted into a restaurant. However, the food, especially breakfast is amazing. The portions are insane and the prices are extremely cheap. Every time i'm in Salem, i try to go here. Sometimes a quaint, backwoods place is better than a trendy upscale place; this is one of those times. If you're prepared to deviate from the normal chain-restaurant scene, you should go here. This place was highly recommended for breakfast by one of the locals but I found it to be very poor indeed. We stopped there for dinner. It is located in an old fly-ridden and run-down house. You enter into a smoke filled (cigarette smoke) room where a number of smokers were located at the table adjacent to the cash register. We recently moved to Salem and have been trying out the local restaurants. We went to Spring Creek Cafe for breakfast one Sunday, and will not go back again. The service was S...L...O...W, the food was mediocre, and although we sat in the "no smoking" section, we were literally coughing from the smoke that permeated the entire building (we are not smokers). Although there are not many restaurants open in Salem on Sunday, we will find somewhere else to dine in the future. read more
