I'm the small town of Salem just off of SR 72 sits Bigos. It's actually down the road from where Yelp has it located. It's just across from Sears and Parts TEK. (Look it up on Google Maps). It's a typical small town Mexican eatery. A locals hangout and the foods decent. Chips and salsa are fresh and made daily. The iced tea was freshly made and not instant (it's crazy I've had instant iced tea at a Mexican restaurant before.) the atmosphere is quaint but nothing super special. When asked the server knew the menu (Kudos to her) but I enquired about the Chili Colorado and unfortunately they don't make Chili Colorado correctly. Lately I've seen way too many restaurants grill the meat then put some sauce over the meat. That is not Chili Colorado!! The beef should be cooked like a traditional chili simmered for hours to break down the meat and make it super tender and flavorful with the ranchero sauce. It's hard to find good Chili Colorado these days. Well I decided to order the Burrito Bandera. A large flour tortilla stuffed with fajita chicken (or steak), Spanish rice, refried beans, grilled onions and peppers. Topped with a trio of sauces (salsa verde (green), salsa roja (red) and queso blanco (white cheese sauce)) and sour cream. The chicken was tender and the sauces were good. The plate was nicely presented and appetizing. The food was hot and prepared well. Worth coming back and trying again. If I could find a place where the service staff actually took pride in their job and actually worked towards a great customer experience I would be a happy man. I'm glad the server knows her menu, that is a BIG plus.. But; (I blame this on the owner/management) if she would have greeted me with a (we have amazing margaritas both frozen and on the rocks with Jose Cuervo tequila and fresh lime juice (if they actually made them like that (what ever descriptor it take to describe them))) I would have purchased one, if she would have suggested (how about starting out with some queso blanco with your chips) I would have purchased it. After I asked about the Chili Colorado she would have stated (you know what a great dish we have though? It's the XYZ) I might have ordered it. If when she servers my entree she would have said (save room for our sopapillas, there awesome) then when she cleared the plate she would have said (are you ready to have those sopas? The come with ice cream and dusted with cinnamon sugar and a drizzle of honey and raspberry sauce (if that's how they made them)) I would have ordered it. But she didn't. Today's servers complain that they only make very little in tips and contemplate working elsewhere because they hear someone makes better tips at another place is SO far off point. Servers need to actually work for their tips. By providing a great dining experience the money will roll in. (I know, when I served, I made on average 5-10% more than other servers made 23-28% gratuity). I heard the complaining of the server as she stayed in the kitchen during the meal talking to the staff instead of serving her guest. So the service would be a score of 1-2 stars (2nd star for knowing her menu). All the server needs to do to increase her tips dramatically is "suggestive sell" (doubling her bills and getting bigger tips based off of the bill total) and be sociable (have a conversation with the customer to make them feel welcome) and treat them like they are family. It's not difficult to do. You just have to care about the customers and care that they have an incredible experience which will cause them to become repeat customers and regulars there. $$$ I'll still come back to try it again and maybe I'll get good service next time and they get a 5star rating.. Overall a fairly good place to eat!! read more

Server pretty much completely ignored me the whole time. My chimichanga was supposed to be topped with cheese dip and wasn't, then charged when asked to put a little cheese dip on top like it's suppose to come with. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would....please do not eat here they are charging customers an extra 25% to every meal. Take pictures of your reciepts because I gaurantee you they wont come back the same. We started going to this place because it was a cheap place to get decent food and drinks. Not long after we noticed our bill being very high and always different it seemed. We are creatures of habit we always order the exact same thing everytime. Finally on this particular day and the bill came and was just outrageously higher then our last...i decided to actually add it up myself it was way off, I asked my husband to double check actually add it up on his phones calculator he to saw the huge difference. We wanted to test the theory we had and ordered desert keeping the original outrageous reciept to see what price would come back. After adding on dessert our bill was cheaper then without dessert . We went to the front desk to pay and explained to the cashier about how our bill was 13 dollars more then what was actually ordered, they ran the bill 3 different times in front of us each time it came back to a different amount. When confronted about it the manager admitted what was going on that the machine would add an extra 25% from the previous bill to your current bill if not cleared out twice but saw no issues with it , when asked about who was profiting from this 25% upcharge he said he didnt need to discuss that with us and told us to leave. The manager also insisted on my husband giving him the receipts and would not give them back when asked again luckily we took pictures of all of this and their machine they are using. This restaurant is stealing from the community and has been for who knows how long. Please be careful eating here I can honestly say this restaurant has stolen hundreds of dollars from us from us in the times weve been going. This is really sad and disheartening so much for supporting your small local businesses. read more

Came here for a friends birthday and ordered the lunch quesadilla. It was very greasy, but didn't taste too bad. Good place to get lunch if you want what you pay for. Pretty good service as well. Friends enjoyed their food, but don't come very often. read more

The margaritas are nearly perfect and the place is unusually clean. Best Mexican restaurant in town (although there's only one other). It is literally the only place in town where you can get beer on tap & a frozen margarita. (There's ONE bar in this town & they sell their beer in cans and have no other drinks!). It's really a crap little town but anyway Bigos is great for Mexican. They also have a large outside eating area where you can smoke if you want to. read more
