Superb service. My meal was hot and tasty. I went on a week night and the restaurant wasn't crowded.

service was terrible. I waited 20 minutes just to be seated. I had to wait another 30 minutes to get my order taken and then after being there for a total of an hour and a half I walked out. Stopped here on our way back to St. Louis. Lively festive feeling when we walked in. Not all their staff were there and yet we received good service. We shared the chicken fajitas. The food came out hot. The chicken was tender but it needed more seasoning. Visually the dish would look better if different colored bell peppers were included. First off, we're from California. Stopped into this restaurant as highly suggested from those that live in the area. Imagine our surprise, what we thought might be authentic was merely mid-western Mexican no frills junk food. The tacos were hard shelled as if they were packaged Ole El Paso taco shells, definitely not hand made. The salsa was minimal tasting at best as if it were from a can and the topper to it all, I ordered a chile renello that was pickled! What on earth? A pickled chile renello. Yuk! So we check out, the young guy at the counter who claims to be the Manager asks how everything was, we said nothing not to be disrespectful. In our conversation with him, he tells us he's from California, I'm shocked and really wanted to inquire about his Mexican heritage upbringing on the food their serving to Missourians as authentic. I try to leave good reviews but, you will always find mine to be honest. Immediately seated upon entering and beverage order completed. Upon bringing our drinks- which was all of two Minutes- wanted to know if we were ready to order. Said we need a few more to look being that we have never been to there restaurant. Took a bit for her to return for our order but, finally did. Upon delivery of our food by other staff with a warm smile, she inquired if we were doing ok at that point. Totally different than our waitress. The food was okay but, truly nothing special. Our waitress returned to check on us 3/4 of the way through our meal- had to ask for soda refills. Brought them back along with the bill - never inquired if we wanted anything else or dessert. So I paid the bill in cash as they add to your bill if you use a credit card. I only had a little over a dollar in change coming back to me in which the waitress was bold enough to ask me if I wanted the change which I said no and that became her tip. read more

First thing that I noticed when we walked in today is that the floor was very slippery. I almost fell, I'm disabled and on forearm crutches so on a greasy floor it's really hard for customers who are challenged to walk in this environment. Second issue is that they took away the lunch specials, which was always nice to have. Third is that the quality of the food was not so good as before, we've eaten there plenty of times, brought our friends and family there. Wow! The food here is fantastic! Very authentic! I had the carnitas which were seasoned to perfection! Carnitas are my go to so I try them everywhere. These for the best tasting I've ever had. Couldn't stop til my plate was clean! My companion had the chicken fajitas and loved them too. Our server was very good and the food came out quickly even tho the place was packed! My wife and son came here for lunch today. That was a mistake. We ordered and waited a half hour and saw the kitchen help give our food to another table.the food we finally got was terrible. It had know taste. When we came in we noticed a sign saying the prices on the menu were not correct. My wife asked the waitress what that meant, se had to go find someone who could speak English. The other waitress told us that sign was for the children menu only.when we went to pay ,my 15.00 item was over 17.00and my wife's item went from 9.00 to 12.00. This waitress lied to us. Changing prices without being told should be against the law. We eat a lot of Mexican food from St. Louis to Rolla Mo., this was by for the worst we ever had.we told the waitress that we would never be back. Such a shame. read more

If you know where to find it it's a great place to go. Located just a block of old route 66, Riviera Maya is located right along the railroad tracks. They have their own parking lot (free) and are Family friendly and ideal for a dinner for two or larger groups and a menu that is quite extensive. They offer take out as well as the dine-in option. We've never had to make reservations but on certain days (Friday/Saturday) we sometimes had to wait for a table. The wait was never long and the food is so good we don't mind at all. The restaurant offers both booths and regular tables and they will put a few tables together if you arrive with a larger group. It can get a bit loud when the place is packed but the noise level never becomes so loud that you can't carry on a normal conversation. We love going to places where we can ask to have something made to order that is not on the menu. Riviera Maya is such a place. Do you want more spice or less; can you add chicken to this or peppers to that; can I have that special fajita that is never on the menu but everyone knows it exists? I have never heard the word "No" come out of anyone's mouth there. The food is so plentiful you might as well think about getting a to go bag. You can order off the regular menu or special order and the staff will work with you each and every time. Homemade nacho chips and thick, rich Salsa arrived at our table with the drinks. The offer mix drinks, cocktails as well as non-alcoholic options. Depending on your order food will arrive within 15 - 20 minutes. Any later than that and the waitstaff will let you know. The list of appetizers is not extensive but there is something for everyone and if you need a vegetarian option the staff will work with you. I have not seen options for vegans. The last time we went my husband had the Jalisco special with beef, chicken and shrimp. The blend of vegetables and meat was just right. Hot fajita shells and slices of lime were offered on the side. I asked for a spicy Chicken Burrito and got a huge plate of rice, guacamole, spicy beans and my burrito. No way was I able to eat all of that and my husband wasn't able to finish his either. It was just too much food. The quality was great, everything was hot and presented nicely on large platters (in my case) and a cast iron skillet (for my husband). We paid less than $30 for the food and non-alcoholic drinks and it was worth every Penny. It is very clean. We observed tables being wiped after diners left and the bathrooms are also clean and well stocked. The murals and painted furniture offer a casual, family friendly atmosphere and I'm sure we'll visit again soon. read more

We always saw this place and wanted to try it. The reviews seem good and we came in ready to eat. Service was good, chips and salsa was very good, but the food was....meh. I got the chicken tostada and my shell was not hard at all but the parts that were (edges) tasted stale. It was just a plain pile of shredded chicken on a tostada shell with lettuce and sour cream. Very very bland. I ended up using the basket of chips to scoop up some of the meat and using salt and salsa for flavor. Husband got the Chile relleno but didn't finish as he said the red sauce tasted very sour. His last weird bite made him push his plate away. Right next to the BNSF train tracks is the Riviera Maya Grill. Very colorful and appealing exterior with a full parking lots got us to stop in and try this. Once we got in the staff was right there with chips and salsa. The chips had an unusual flavor as if they were made from sweet corn rather than more common ones. Not a bad thing just different. The salsa that accompanied it was great. Just enough texture and color and a nice amount of heat without overwhelming the flavors. The chips and salsa get 6 stars! We split the Fajita Chicken Quesadilla. The chicken was cooked in a pan and not grilled which was a disappointment considering the name of the place is "....Grill". Not bad but not what we expected. The amount of chicken and other fillings though was above average and it had a more bland flavor than expected but the cheese peppers and onions made up for it. The Rice appeared to be a bulk prepared and distributed as it is the same as other Mexican restaurants I have eaten at so it is not bad, but not what I expected either. One funny thing to mention is the menu says Coke Products while the server tells you they do not offer Coke Products. This would not be a problem but the menu is actually a binder where the staff can replace one page at a time if they so choose to. I would go back next time I am in the area and have time. read more

It was recommended to us from a local. It's very bright and vibrant the decor. I actually thought it was cool how every chair was different. Guacamole - It was a bit bland. Missing some tomatoes and salt. Lunch #1 - Chile rellano, taco, guacamole salad and beans (I got rice instead). Wow, it came on 2 plates. Taco with the salad and my chile rellano with the rice. I think my guy was a bit jealous. Everything was okay, but the meat in the taco was pretty flavorful. Lent Special - 3 Spinach & Mushroom Enchiladas with rice (My guy got beans instead). We were driving through Cuba on a Sunday evening & most of the restaurants were closed, so we decided to give Riviera Maya Mexican Grill a try. We were sat down immediately & had a great service. Our waitress quickly brought out chips & salsa along with our drinks! I ordered a Margarita on the rocks & it tasted great. Although some of the staff are inexperienced, our experience was really good, overall. We visited Cuba to attend our first float at the nearby Huzza river (I think?) and we heard good things about this establishment. After a long day on the river, 100 degree weather mixed with poor food planning - warm tortilla chips and good salsa (try the hot - very nice unique flavor) was comforting and welcomed. We both ordered quesadillas... I, the fiesta and she, the fajita - both were delicious! The shell had a nice char, the veggies were fresh, the protein was well flavored and good. Worst Mexican food I've ever had. I've never had such a bland experience at a Mexican food joint. From the salsa to the main course it brought me back to Taco Bell days. The service was poor as well. The waitress did say it was her first week, but how can you mess up offering more water or if we'd like to upgrade to margaritas. We did end up getting margaritas finally and they were horrible too. This place has the authenticity of a Southern coastal Mexican establishment right in the middle of one of the most caucasian dominant regions in the U.S. The food is excellent, and I am fond of their seafood soup as it very much reminds me of the seafood combination soup I used to get in Ensenada, MX. Staff was fairly nice, but the food was so-so. The tamale was ok (would have been a lot better with a lotta cheeese!) the chicken enchilada was covered in peppers and onions (but was somehow very bland) and the beef taco was actually pretty good. This food is sub par Mexican food but is okay for Missouri. The service is average and all the food is smothered in sauce.

My first experience here as a single diner was terrible. I waited 25minutes for my dinner to arrive. Other tables received their food even if they arrived after me. I only ordered a chalupa should not have taken that long to make. I again waited 1/2 hour to get my check and decided I would walk to the register to pay. So, obviously a glutton for punishment, I thought I would give them another chance... WRONG! I waited 15min without a waiter speaking to me or asking if I would like something to drink. I did get chips and salsa. Not wanting to repeat my last experience I got up and asked to speak with the manager. I waited 10 min for that.... Seriously???? I will NEVER go back read more

We stopped in for dinner in a road trip after reading fairly good reviews. It was such an unpleasant experience and the colorful atmosphere was all they had working for them. We arrived at 7:43 and were immediately sat. The restaurant was maybe half full and we ordered within 10 minutes. At 8:35 they brought my mom's 2 tacos, my husband's "choose 3" and my daughter's 2 tacos. It was LK cold. 5-7 Minutes later they brought my veggies, my dad's fajitas and my 7 year old was still empty handed. It took a couple more minutes to get her taco kids meal. We immediately asked for the check so we could eat and get back on the road. Ten minutes later we had to ask our server again-most of the time he was unable to be spotted. We go there quite often and just love the atmosphere. Definitely the most colorful restaurant I've ever been in. The food is pretty typical mexican fare. We've tried lots of different items from the menu. They've all been very good. We have made friends with the owner and he's quite the colorful character himself. Soon he will be opening a back patio for dining and music. We live locally so this is one of our favorite places to go. read more
