However the restaurant is tucked away on the second floor of a shopping center, and the seating is not ideal. The acoustics made it difficult to hear the server and my dinner companions, and this was before the live music began (which was setting up in the dining area as we ate). I was pleasantly surprised by the food, and everyone seemed cheerful and welcoming. But the restaurant was too chaotic to have any semblance of a meaningful conversation. I had to shout across the table to be heard. I may come back to enjoy a beverage and listen to a band, but I would never bring a date to this location if I had any expectation of enjoying each other's company. And that's really a shame: the food and location are excellent.

After leaving and walking a few blocks, we heard a man yelling and turned around to see our server. He was verbally accosting us blocks from the restaurant for NOT leaving a tip. Startled, I went back and was met by an agitated server demanding a tip. Confused, I went with him and fixed the error, but this was embarrassing not truly my fault. I was made to feel like a criminal. The iPad was impersonal and confusing because the tip did not stick. The establishment needs to DO BETER for both their customers and their employees. The iPad was a problem and the lengths this server had to go through for a living wage was unacceptable.

They brought me out some of those instead, as I am not a fan of patties that make me look like I'm eating at McDonald's, but the home fries were quite oily. We were there a very long time before our order was taken, and then to receive our meal. They seem to be understaffed, so our server seemed overwhelmed. It was hard to get coffee refills, which is one of my pet peeves when I go out to breakfast, as I like coffee very hot, so refilled frequently. I also requested my English muffin dry, but it came out loaded with butter. Be forewarned that they don't warn you about up charges when telling you what item choices come with the meal. Would I have minded paying extra for things like an English muffin or multigrain bread? No. But I do expect to be told ahead of time. (They charge extra for multigrain bread???) The owner removed it from the bill when questioned, but she was not pleasant about it. She tried to argue certain things and say she knows the server told us, despite her not being there when we ordered. This is not a good way to win over a new customer who had not been there before and doesn't know anything about your place. There are a lot of very good breakfast places in the area, and I go out to breakfast frequently (as you can tell from my many breakfast reviews). It's doubtful I will return again as I did not find the place friendly. The Collegeville Diner is much closer to me if I want a diner, and there are so many other places where the service is very friendly and quick. This is not one of them. The owner did make adjustments to the bill, but was not nice about it. (They seem to make a big deal about using Dave's Killer Multigrain bread, see owner's response to this review, which I've never had and don't care about. Who tells you that multigrain is one of the choices and then charges you more after the fact because you chose it?) You can go to Nook & Kranny and get fresh baked bread from local LeBus bakery without any extra charge. For my dining partner, it was her second time here and she had a negative experience the first time, where service was also slow and her food arrived cold. The only reason we gave it a try was that she said it was very busy at the time, so our logic was that it must be pretty good if it was that packed. It was not packed this time and service was still not great and the food was not good enough to offset the service. We have no desire to give it a third chance.

We were wonderfully greeted and the hostess spent the perfect amount of time chatting with us after seating us at an intimate table inside. I was glad I had perused the menu beforehand, so I wasn't shocked at the prices. However, as mentioned, it was a celebratory dinner. I had picked the duck (more on that later), but may have switched to a steak had it not been for the $$$. We ordered the following appetizers/starters: tuna carpaccio, house salad, bone marrow and house selection of bread. All of these were the highlights of the meal! The tuna was thinly sliced, great flavor with the cucumber and the perfect amount of 'dressing'. The house salad was also delicious - wonderful combination of flavors. I was worried about the strawberry dressing (served on the side), but was the perfect balance of sweet and vinegar. The bone marrow was also delicious- we should have gotten one each as we were both scraping the bone for every last morsel. The bread deserves its own paragraph. I will preface by saying I have tried to be gluten free for the past eight months and not eaten any bread. I melted into my seat with every bite of bread. There was a selection of pretzel bread, my first choice. Eaten with a small amount of butter, I thought, thank goodness I tried this first, it will be easy to say no to the other bread. Wrong. The focaccia with herbed olive oil was even better! Had the same thought again - well, at least I will be able to pass on the other slices. Nope. The sliced bread was even better. Although i could hear my mother scoffing at having to pay for bread, this was worth it. Unfortunately, this is where my enthusiasm wanes. My husband ordered the salmon and really enjoyed it. I tried a bite and also thought it was a good dish. I ordered the duck. The duck was cooked to my order (medium rare) and flavors were very good. Unfortunately, the mocha rub was more of a crust (encasement?), not a huge deal, but the duck itself was not tender and took a lot of chewing. Other Notes: The atmosphere was fantastic! The wine selection was excellent and provided a nice variety of prices per glass. Service was excellent. For dessert, I had a macchiato and the tiramisu; it was ok. I should have ordered one of the housemade desserts, but wanted something smaller. My husband ordered the cheesecake and wolfed it down (a good sign after such a large meal). Since we are from out of town and it was a one of a kind celebration, I can't say we will be back, but if money were not an issue, I would really enjoy coming here again and trying a different entree
