I called this AM and spoke to the receptionist and told her the age and the brand. She was polite and said she would have to check with Service. She returned to the phone and told me it would be no problem for them. I had to drive an hour to Bedford only to be told by their Service that they would not work on a Johnson that old. I asked if they could at least change the lower unit lube and they suggested I just do it myself. So on my return trip home, I called the receptionist and she remembered very well her affirmation to me that they would work on my outboard! She said she would make it right and put me on hold. She got the owner to talk to me and the owner said there is nothing they can do for me. I'm 72 years old and this is the first bad review I have posted to social media.

We purchased the next day! Jerry was great to work with and held the boat for us longer than we had originally agreed to. Awesome to work with and the boat was spotless when we finally picked it up. Rudie was knowledgeable and patient in all situations. I have purchased boats at other dealers and it's been a mixed bag (mostly painful). This was truly an enjoyable experience with added personal touches from the team. On the financing and deal closure side, Jody and Rich were fantastic. Jody obtained the tricky financing I requested, and made the deal closing most enjoyable. Additionally she is a walking boat regulation encyclopedia, and she provide amazing guidance on DNR regulations, Illinois government guidelines, etc. These are things I thought I knew already, as a seasoned tournament fisherman and watersport enthusiast, but found out I didn't know as much as I thought after meeting with Jody. She hooked us up so we be safe and legal at all times in my new beast Super Hawk Crestliner! I was on the fence on different models and brands and she helped me with a side by side comparison so I picked the right one with options that I need. It was a big purchase for me so she wasn't pushy, on the other hand she also welcomed me with open arms and made me feel comfortable since I have had trouble in the past with sales people not wanting to approach me since I don't have the appearance of being rich. She didn't hesitate to greet me and help me out. Later after we made sure that we had the right make and model she introduced me to one of the owners Matt. We sat down and he dialed me in with the price. It was like a no haggle thing since I was shopping and knew what this should cost and he was below anyone else. He was very very helpful and was a pleasure to do business with. This is a family business and they treated me like family. I never thought I would ever write a negative review about this place. I've stored my boat there…read moresince 2014. I've always had it stored over the winter and usually stored it there during the remainder of the year (in & out service, mostly in as we've taken in out less than 4 times a year on average. The motor has less than 35 hours on it and it's 10 years old). I usually work with Keith who is a super nice guy. I can't say the same about the owner. However, I had a not so pleasant experience with them recently. Last fall I dropped my boat off at their shop because it wouldn't start. I was told their mechanic spent a couple hours on it, could not find the problem. They told me the motor started (but didn't run well) but only when bypassing the ignition and wiring harness. I was told it was probably the harness and I'd have to take it to a Sylvan dealer. I was charged $200. I spent hours looking for a problem, a break in the wire, corrosion, etc. and didn't find anything. I contacted the closest dealer and since they don't stock the harness I had to pay for it in advance, about $425. After calling the Michigan (2 1/2 hours away) dealer I bought the boat from I decided to take it there. I was told it probably wasn't the harness since the boat is in almost new condition, only 30 hours on the motor. I took it there earlier this year. They found the issue in less than 10 minutes! It was the kill switch, a $30 part! They told me the motor ran very well. They checked everything over, repaired a few minor issues including replacing the horn. They charged me $385. I called the local dealer to inform them I didn't need the harness and I was charged a 20% restocking fee (approx. $85). So in total I incurred close to $700 for what turned out to be a $35 part!! I informed Keith and Steve of this and they offered $100 off winter storage! No apology! Absolutely ridiculous! Not only did they not find the simple issue, they told me it had to be the wiring harness. If I owned the shop I would have been embarrassed! I would have apologized , at minimum given a full refund or 50% off winter storage or maybe even winter storage on me! But not this place! I was a good customer for 10 years , spent thousands on storage , parts and some minor labor. Greed is a terrible thing. If this is how they treat a good customer of 10 years, I can only imagine how they're going to treat a new customer.

Shortly after I agreed to this boat I received a call from Susan the Business Manager, she had everything lined up for me within minutes, all the way down to insurance options. The customer service from both her and Don was excellent. I arrived to sign docs and take possession, quick and easy. Introduced to the rest of the staff (Service, Parts, Dock attendants, etc...) Susan covered everything like a pro and Don even took the inaugural cruise on the lake with us to make sure the boat was perfect. New ownership and the place looks outstanding. The entire staff is amazing, with an awesome focus on customer service. 10/10 will be doing business with the Boathouse Chicago all summer!

I purchased a Donzi 27ZR from Grand Sport. I made the 14 hour drive which was making me nervous…read moretowing that distance back. When I arrived they allowed me as much time as I needed inspecting the boat. They let me borrow their moisture meter and ran the boat on their Dyno which was nice to have boat under load. Still a little worried about not taking for sea trial but pretty tough when lakes had ice on them. A couple things they did which was very nice. They verfified trailer had brakes and functioned, also checked date code on Tires which were 2025. The spare tire and one of the 4 trailer tires had a slow leak, they took to local shop the day before I got there to fix leak. They greased all bearings, checked trailer lights and even provided me correct light adapter since I didn't have the correct one. During inspection they took the time to walk through all electronics, verify everything was in working order. Jerry also helped out by getting me 5 life jackets since this is my second boat and all my gear needs to stay in other boat. These guys were a pleasure to deal with and had the same clear message. We want you to be happy so please take time with boat and ask any questions you might have. Would buy boat from them again, just need them closer to CT LOL.
