Jim c carol stream I decided to take my boat to Tanglewood for repair. I purchased there new in 1995. I was looking to get the impeller replaced joe noticed the fuel filter needed replacing with fuel pump quick upcharge fine needs it get er done as they say. sent me vid of it running great, also mentioned trailer bearings need replacing. fine do that while it's there i like to support local business whenever possible Impeller was 8 yrs old other parts were original equipment super reliable motor. Everything fine till pickup paid over 1000 for probably 600 worth of work, but hey ya gotta pay to play. joe mentioned the tarp on the boat was blowing around. when i looked it was because they were too lazy to put the Bunge cords on to hold the tarp they were laying on the ground with the tarp stuffed in the boat. so i started putting the tarp on myself and had a cardiac event setting off my defibrillator 1st time in 2 yrs 4th since 2017 .should have gone and asked for help but was too stubborn. so i took several breaks and struggled on. Small things like putting the customers tarp back on matters. It shows as a business owner you care. myself being a business owner. would be like remodeling a kitchen and then taking the boxes from the cabinets and leaving them on the kitchen floor. if the amount of care taken with the tarp is any indication of the quality of the work done on my motor which is usually a pretty good indicator I'm in trouble. read more

I called and asked if they could replace a propeller and do a pressure test because I had water in my lower unit. I told him it was a Johnson and he laughed and said it sounds old. I told him it was a 1997. He said bring it in and we will take a look. While I was THEIR Joe spun the propeller and said the shaft was bent. I asked how much. He said $1400. I said fine as long as I have it by Memorial weekend. He said no problem. A week later Joe called and said the part was a special order and not in stock. He laughed again and bad-mouthed Johnson and said they were a terrible company with poor products. He could not get it fixed by Memorial weekend, so I decided to get my boat. I could at least use it with a trolling motor. I went to pick up my boat and I had to wait a 1/2 hour for them to bring it out to me as it was buried behind other boats. Then they dropped the boat in the street and did not even offer to help hook it up to my truck. Joe and his helpers have absolutely no customer service skills. I wonder why they did not order parts the day I dropped it off? Why did he wait a week? He knew what the problem was so why the wait on ordering parts? I will never go to this place again and I warn others not to go if you need something done by a certain time. I think because I did not have a $30,000 boat he was not interested in my business. read more

My engine wouldn't start. I got towed back to the dock and brought my boat over to Tanglewood Marina just as they were closing. They told me to back the boat up into the shop and diagnosed a sheared starter. One hour later, i had a brand new starter in my boat. Both the mechanic and the owner stayed about 1 1/2 hours past closing to help me out as I was taking the boat out the next day. Who does that kind of thing these days??? We live in the city so he's always offering to drive our boat to and from the city whenever necessary - at a very fair price. Tanglewood Marine is the best Marina we have found in and around Chicago (and we have been to ALL of them, large and small). We have been going to Tanglewood for over 5 years and have found Joey and his staff to be by far and away the most honest, hardworking and knowledgeable boat people we know. We have had all types of boats servied here over the years - outboards/inboards, jet boats (currently own a Sugar Sand Mirage) and jet skiis. They are true pros, always going above and beyond to get our boat in and fixed quickly so we don't lose precious Chicago summer weekends. I spent a few thousand there, it's hard to find a good boat mechanic but save your money and keep looking.

I was getting my boat ready for spring fishing when i developed a motor problem, i called Tanglewood to see when they could look ay it, expecting up to two week wait, i was totally shocked when the said bring it in and we will get to it in the next couple of days. The next day they called telling me that theu had resolved the motor problem and i could pick up my boat. Since it was there and ready i asked if they could do a oil and filter change, two hours later they are on the phone telling me my boat was ready to go. I thought this unbelievable. Brought my boat to tanglewood marine for some work. The place seemed to be rated good and trust worthy! The owner, also racer at one time, seemed to know what he was talking about so I left my boat there. My boat is not some fancy fountain or Donzi, it's a fishing boat. After over a $1000 in repairs and new throttle cables he says I need a lower unit! He seems uninterested in my boat like he has better things to do and bothers me about when I can come get it. I'm a business owner and do what I can to make customers happy. So I picked it up and took it to aquaholics in fox lake. They looked at it for ten minutes and said throttle cables aren't installed right and adjusted right. Had it fixed in two hours. so all in all he was wrong and they saved me a lot of money. read more
