I went to Munson ski and was very grateful to have met Jenny, she helped me find a chaparral. She was really knowledgeable and sweet. She understands that this is a big purchase and made sure that I understood what I was getting into and what all my options were. I was on the fence on different models and brands and she helped me with a side by side comparison so I picked the right one with options that I need. It was a big purchase for me so she wasn't pushy, on the other hand she also welcomed me with open arms and made me feel comfortable since I have had trouble in the past with sales people not wanting to approach me since I don't have the appearance of being rich. She didn't hesitate to greet me and help me out. Later after we made sure that we had the right make and model she introduced me to one of the owners Matt. We sat down and he dialed me in with the price. It was like a no haggle thing since I was shopping and knew what this should cost and he was below anyone else. Complete lack of professionalism and integrity from the sales floor through management. After reaching an agreement to buy a new pontoon on the floor - we made the deposit, financing secured - including a HARD CREDIT CHECK, and insurance for the boat. After holding our trade for two weeks - they pulled out of the agreement entirely. No respect for the deal that was made, no negotiation, very little communication throughout. It was like we hadn't already reached an agreement. Keep in mind that they held the deposit, and our boat while they decided if they were going to show any integrity, but instead just pulled out of the deal entirely. I highly recommend picking somewhere else if you want to be treated with respect. There are so many quality marinas in the area with far more professional sales teams, and management that cares about their customers. We bought our last boat at the other munson owned by fox lake harbor. The whole process was smooth, dealt with only professionals. They are a far better alternative! Adding after reply: As you can see the agreements you reach with management and sales teams appear meaningless in my experience. No negotiation, just complete disregard your word. If you are going to pull out of a deal, don't make the customer secure financing, run their credit, and accept their money. Honor your word or continue to lose customers. read more

We bought a brand new 22ft Bennington Pontoon from Munson at the Chicago Boat show this January. The process could not have been easier. We looked all over the show but came back to Munson to buy. We got exactly what we wanted. Peter Biasco was awesome walking us through the process, options, etc. we was patient with all our questions. When the boat came in during March we went out to meet Adam and get all the final papers signed. They were all ready and we were in and out quickly, were able to see the boat, and set up delivery. We have a lake house on Lake Holiday (Sandwich, IL) so it is nearly a 2 hour drive from Munson to deliver it but Captain Bill brought it out, launched it, showed us all the ins and outs, and helped us figure out the best way to get it tied to our dock. He was great with us, and showed us everything we need to know about the new boat. Captain Bill spend a couple hours with us going around the lake, making sure everything worked and we were ready to take it on our own. I could not be happier with the process, service, and thoroughness of the team and we look forward to this summer and many more with the boat! read more

I needed some discontinued Sea Star control cables for a 2007 Chris Craft Corsair. I keep a spare set on hand since the cables are discontinued, are special order from Sea Star, and take so long to get. I contacted Zach in the parts department. He got back to me the next day with a price. Other boat dealers took forever to quote me and their prices were higher. And Munson Ski isn't even a Chris Craft dealer! Cables took 3 months to get, but Zach was outstanding. Every time I would email him, he would get back to me with an answer either the same or next day. I recently bought my first boat from Ryan Berka. Ryan was super patient and went at my pace. He answered my million and one questions. Scott Sims worked hard to get me the rate I wanted and the paperwork went real smooth. Mark Munson took some time with my wife, kids and I getting us set up with boards and a bunch of gear. Mark was very knowledgeable and really showed a passion for wake surfing. Austin Chiluk did my Captains delivery out on the water. Austin went above and beyond showing me how to use all the cool features of the Malibu. Again, I am new to boating and super nervous! We recently purchased a Bennington 23SX Tritoon from Munson at the Lakemoor location. Peter Biasco was extremely friendly and thorough in explaining the differences between the boats and what would work best for our needs. The day of delivery Andy made the paper signing easy. Bill Nelson handled actual boat delivery to us in Fontana. He boarded the boat with us and explained all the features as he was using them. He then handed the wheel over to my husband and continued to explain things and gave him all kinds of helpful hints. He has shared his email with us and told us to call or email any time with questions. Bill also shared a lot of helpful information about different features and accessories, like a rear view mirror, that could be added to the boat if we choose. Do you like outdated high pressure sales tactics, grey moral areas, dealing with lawyers, and generally wasting countless hours of your life? Then come on down to Munson Ski and Marine, where you too, can make the worse purchase of your life! I run a boat rental business in California, and we were recently looking to expand our business and purchase another boat. We finally found what looked like the perfect boat on Boat Trader from Munson Ski & Marine. We talked to Marc Biasco, one of the sales associate, over the phone and everything seemed to be perfect about the boat. So I told him I'll drive out to Illinois over the next couple days, check out the boat, and if it looks good I'll buy it and drive it back. He then proceeds into talking me out of coming to see the boat (since it's so far away) and starts telling me about the "old lady" who's interested in buying the boat. I tell him that's fine, and to sell to the "old lady," even though I had my doubts the "old lady" existed. A couple days later I get a text message from Marc saying the "old lady" didn't end up buying the boat (surprise surprise) and they are willing to take some money off the price. At this point, I have already found another boat in Arizona, which is new and a little more expensive but is way closer to us. I tell Mark this and then he starts sending me long paragraph text messages about how I shouldn't buy the new boat, the brand is low quality, their boat is turnkey ready to go, and a high quality brand. I tell him no, I'm going with the new boat but thanks anyways. I then find out the new boat won't available for three more weeks, which is a problem for our company since the boating season here is so short and we would lose out on 3 weeks of rentals. I call Marc back and inquire if this boat is still available. He tells me it is, but now there's a "fireman" that's there right now and wants to buy the boat. Same selling tactic? Really? Long story short we negotiate the price down a little, arrange for expedited shipping at a premium cost through Uship and buy the boat. Three days later: The boat arrives. The first thing that the guy who transported the boat says to me is that he had to tell Munson Ski and Marine to take some mussels off from the back of the boat so he could pass state inspection stations on the cross-country drive. BIG RED FLAG. I take the boat to our local inspection station, as required by law, and turns out there are Zebra mussels EVERYWHERE. These mussels are illegal in the whole state of California, dead or alive, and shouldn't even be crossing state lines. The boat gets immediately quarantined for a month and I have to start talking to our local game warden and other local agents about what I need to do to get the boat up to our state's standard. It turns out we will need to cut off the chimes on the side of the pontoons, clean them, unmount the motor, clean that whole mounting area, and the inside of the motor. I get quotes from local shops and they tell me it's going to be $10-20k to get all this done and even after all this, they aren't sure if it will be clean enough to launch in our lake. We reach out to Marc to ask him about last time the boat was in the water and what lake it came from, he says it hasn't been in the water since last fall and it was last in Lake Genova (a lake known for Zebra mussels). He says he reaching out to his boss, Matt Munson, and he should be in contact with me shortly. We get the phone call from Matt Munson, and told him what we learned about the boat he sold us. Because the shipping company told the dealership about the mussels, Matt Munson was clearly aware of the condition of the boat and that this would be a problem for us in California. We told him that because he was negligent in advising us of a contamination, we wanted our money back. My business partner was kind enough to say we will eat the cost of shipping to California, Munson would just have to ship the boat back to Illinois and give us back our money, no hard feelings. Matt says he has to talk to his Dad about this and he will get back to us shortly. We don't hear anything else from him. I call multiple times over the next couple days and he doesn't reply. Eventually he writes me an email saying he checked with his lawyers and they did nothing wrong. They went to a lawyer first rather than working with us. In reaching out to our own legal counsel, we discovered that we did not have a solid enough case to pursue. That being said, this is morally reprehensible and this business should be held accountable for their shady dealings. We will be contacting the BBB and strongly recommend that other people go somewhere else for their boat purchases. read more

I find it hard to believe the customers who have had such an unexceptional experience from Munson Ski and Marine., Munson is a family owned business and have true family values. In the last 3 years I have bought 3 boats and they all have been from Munson. All three of them is/were great boats with no issues. My boat track record goes as follows; 97 Bayliner to a 2002 Malibu 23lsv and finally to a 2014 23LSV Wakesetter. I can tell you if you need any kind of boat service and or new/used boat purchase I would highly recommend you go to Munson. Everyone will treat you great and make you feel welcome. Due to the covid pandemic we required an appointment to see a boat they had advertised. Completely understand. When I called I spoke with Pete and specifically requested to see the one on the ad. He said sure, and gave me a choice anywhere between 9 and 11 am. We chose 10 am and were on time. We had to wait 30 min. for him to be available. It happens. When I asked to see the boat in the ad he told me it was sold a week ago and they do a bad job of updating the online listings. He could have told me that over the phone so I didn't waste my time. Then came the, what felt like, bait and switch tactic where he showed me boats $10000 over the boat priced in the ad. I just wish he would have been forthcoming when I initially called. We purchased a new 2021 Chaparral from Munson Ski and Marine in the spring of 2021. At the end of our first season with it, the retractable swim deck stopped working properly. When we brought it to Munson Ski and Marine for winter storage at the beginning of October 2021 we told them about it, expecting it to be fixed by the next boating season. After setting up our delivery date for this current season we got a call that the swim deck had never been fixed!!! Everyone, especially those running a business, should know that there are delays for quite a while now in receiving parts, etc. (!!!), but we were told that they didn't order the parts right away because they were busy with storing the boats coming in for the winter. They had just ordered the parts a few months earlier!!!! So, as should have been expected, it wasn't ready for us!!! They agreed that they knew we would want to use our boat until the parts came in and then suggested that WE would need to pay $900 for the transportation from the harbor to their shop and back so that they could do the repair!! Why in the world would we even consider paying a cent for their failure to do their jobs?!?! So, we have gone the entire boating season thus far without the use of our retractable swim deck, because they still have not been successful in even receiving the parts needed! (After ten months!) Now this is also complicating our plans for storage this winter. And, if the above wasn't bad enough, our salesman had originally given us incorrect information on the type of anchor our boat needed which caused us not to have the use of our automatic anchor system for the entire first boating season!! read more

After going back and forth we decided to put the extra money and buy "chaparral" . 2 years later we needed parts and we got a "great " customer service. We are now more than 3 month to finally receive our part and maybe even enjoy the boat!!! I decided to call them left a voicemail but no one called back ... few day pass I tried to call again but unfortunately same result. Few day pass same Result, I decided to call the sales department and what a magic they actually answered. I asked the gentleman to transfer me to them but again voicemail!!! Once I finally receive a person on the line she was rude, unprofessional, and the last thing she wanted to do was help!!! I'm leaving downtown which it's hour and half each way, so I asked to pay by credit card and come pick it up to save me the extra 3 hours trip. They kept changing their version why I can't use credit card and I have to pay CASH only, although they agreed before and made me send my credit card and ID via email!!! I do understand that there are many frauds, but once you receive an authorization form and copy of my driver license what else do you need in 2019?!?! It was a terrible experience as a customer that I don't recommend to anyone especially when you trying to spend over 3k!!! Worse customer service ever and the service department is ran by the owners wife. I have bought two boats with them and will now go out the way for repairs just to never give them my business. Everything the other review posted is 100% accurate. It took them all winter to fix a few small problems with the boat and they still didn't have it ready in the summer. The boat had to be brought back to them to be fixed again. Insurance claim work is like pulling teeth with them. Customer service means nothing. They do not communicate with customers but threaten and harass instead. After so many years in business, I'm surprised they still have customers. Not only have my children grown exponentially in their skill and enjoyment of skiing, but my family now has a "go to" company for all of our boating needs. I do not give munson any business nor have any of my boats or parts been bought here. However i went here with my cousin to pick up his boat and tow it back home for him. When he dropped it off we drove it right into the shop, no cover nothing stowed since it was indoors. When we went back to pick it up it was sitting outside with the cover half way on, not all the snaps were used and the pole was not used so water pooled up and leaked into the boat and damaged the cover. I noticed my truck chugging a bit towing this boat and when we got home and jacked up the boat water poured out of the bilge for several minutes. There must have been almost 100 gallons of water? Who ever is in charge of moving and covering boats needs some training. read more

I have bought two boats from Munson and I agree with the previous reviews. Their service charges are frequently high and not reviewed prior to work being performed. Their field service techs are marginally competent and don't really give you the time you were promised when they sold you the boat. They even mis-placed my boat trailer for two years and they charged us an arm and a leg for boat covers and then chose not to include them in the value of the boat we were trading in for a much larger boat! read more
