Wauconda boat is a landmark on Bangs Lake. The employees are very friendly and helpful. They have one of the brightest and youngest Mercury marine and Yamaha master techs (Kevin) that I've ever met. The worst run business I have ever dealt with !!! Along with their co-partners Lake County water sports they have a monopoly on Bangs Lake. Service is totally disgusting, they will bill you outrageous prices and don't always perform the services. They could care less about you as a customer. When I finally got my boat out of there for good, there were more zebra mussels in the boat than on the outside, almost deliberate. They have forced my away from Bangs lake forever. The one star ( since I have to give them one) must go to the book keeper, she is the only pleasant one to deal with. read more

I bought a consignment pontoon boat here. Motor over 17 years old. Had some trouble shooting done on it. Very satisfied with mechanics. I got a slip there last summer. I am storing it with them. Can't wait to get it back on the water in a few months. They tuned up motor, should be trouble free next season. I highly recommend them. read more

Stopped here for gas (fist mistake)! The employees are so rude it's amazing they can retain a customer. The place is a dump, as we were pulling away the employees claimed we made a wake ( hardly) and called the lake police on us. Ummm, hello didn't I just pay you 60.00 for gas? The lady at the register couldn't even crack a smile and say your welcome when I payed! No you can't, instead you pull that BS! I will never give any of my hard earned money to this establishment. The boaters on Bangs Lake have almost NO CHOICE but to go there - and the owner takes advantage of this by charging crazy high fees and labor charges. Purchased a Groupon deal for an 8 hour pontoon boat rental. When I arrived a little after 10am I was told that we only had the boat until 2:30pm. I asked the lady why that was when we had an 8 hour groupon and she told me that they closed early on Sundays. I said I was never told that and she insisted that she had told me that when I originally booked. I told her that she had not but again, she insisted. She also told me that she had me written down for an 8 am pick up which was totally false. When I originally booked the rental I had asked her if there was a certain time we needed to be there and she said that we could come at any time. Seeing as how I had 11 other people with me I told her that we would figure it out and went ahead with the rental. Once we were on the boat we noticed how dirty it was. There were peanut shells on the floor, cobwebs ALL OVER and dirt and dust which looked like it had been there for weeks. We cleaned the boat off ourselves and headed out on the lake. When we returned one of my friends went into the office to find out what had happened and why we were not given our full 8 hours which we had already paid for. The woman said she had told me about the shortened hours and my friend said that I was certain she did not and asked if she had anything showing she had told me that. She said no and began to get angry. She then called her husband into the office, who is the owner and my friend again asked him why we paid for 8 hours but were only given 4 and if they would honor the rest of the time on a different day. The owner said absolutely not. My friend asked him who had set up the groupon deal and why they would allow it to be booked if it couldn't be honored on a Sunday. The owner became very upset and told my friend to get out of his office. The owner then said he needed to check the boat and again told my friend to get out of the office. The entire time me and my guests were very calm but the owner was obviously getting upset. Once outside he was YELLING at members of my group telling them they would not get any more time on the boat. At that time his wife told me she was getting ready to call the cops. I told her there was no reason for that, we were simply asking why we did not get what we paid for. She again told me that she had told me over the phone that Sunday was a shorter day. I told her she had not and that it was obviously a mis-communication. The owner returned shortly and told me to get my ID and leave. I have contacted Groupon for a return because the services purchased were not the ones that I received and the owner was in no way going to rectify the situation. I have never in my life been to a business in which the customer was called a liar and then treated with such disrespect. I am a resident of Wauconda and will never ever use that business or recommend it to anyone ever again. I don't know how you can treat your customers in that manner and expect to have a business. My advice is to stay far far away from this place. They are over priced, their boats are not clean and the ownership has no idea what customer service is! read more

Consider yourself warned. Bad experience with boat repairs over Summer 2016. Could not fix problem, would not admit it. Kept pointing to new possibilities, adding charges. Kept boat entire season. Charged more than $5,000, with $3K in labor. Frustrated, I took the boat and gave it to Munson Marine. FIxed it within days, and it was due to a very small problem (fuel pickup pump). Cost me $175. They also notified me that many of the new parts WB claimed to install were not installed, but remained in a box in the boat. These included high speed fuel pump, fuel filter, belt, etc. Careful here...they soaked me good. I rewrote this since the old review was somehow deleted. I'm not forgetting this one. read more

Considered renting a slip on Bangs w/WB till we were guests on a rental from WB last season. The boat rental, a pontoon, was filthy, filled with spiders/bugs and cob webs, grossly unclean carpeting and seats and not set up or maintained at all-we had problems with it all through the rental period, which we cut short. The husbands ended up ended up dropping off the ladies at Lindys' for dinner while they returned boat to WB . Owners were indifferent said, 'sometimes that happens' and that 'the boat wasn't THAT dirty' If they won't keep up their boat rentals or respond in a caring, considerate manner for a single rental, how would they take care of us if we bought two boat slips and needed repairs, maintenance or services? Boating and even fishing on Bangs is fantastic. Such a shame that WB is the only service on the lake. We ended up slipping in Mineola. read more

We've had a boat slip here for about 20 yrs, initially with the original owners, and now with the current owners... This is a family owned business, and they are VERY NICE PEOPLE! They take really good care of their boat slip owners, and are very good with the mechanical/technical care of ones boat. They service our boat every year, with no issues. They take the time to tell you what repairs may be needed, and of course, the price. Joe, Carol & Mike are all wonderful, and are very involved with a lot of the local Wauconda community events. Great group of very hard working small business owners, thats for certain! HIGHLY RECOMMEND. read more

If we only needed them for their boat launch, they would have been adequate, nice ramp, pier, helpful launch attendants, reasonable charge. I love Wauconda and supporting it's small businesses. But this business disappointed me when I asked about boat repair service. It's been a while since I've negotiated a price for anything, in my business or personal life, so admittedly I am a little rusty, but not naive to good/bad business practice. However, I did not expect the Owner of the one and only, 70 year old boat repair business on Bangs Lake to take advantage of me and kill a potential long term business relationship by using sharp practice with me. I am very disappointed with Wauconda Boat. My husband and I asked the Owner of Wauconda Boat for a repair estimate. None of us brought up potential cost of said estimate at that time, which was an error on both sides of the transaction and one of which the Owner took advantage. After looking at the problem and chatting with his tech for 15 minutes, the tech and I both new what the problem was. Yet the Owner, slapped me with a $150 charge for 1.25 hours of his tech's time. When I balked at the charge, he accused me of being naive by asking "Do I think people work for free?". I told him I knew what was wrong after a few minutes talking with his tech, so he knocked 15 minutes off the time like he was doing me a favor, still charging $120 for an hour of work that should not have taken more than 30 minutes total. I would have been fine with paying a fair rate. But that wasn't an option, so he got his $120 and lost a potential customer and cheerleader for his small local business. He acts like he cares, he fooled me, but he won't twice. Let this be fair warning to anyone thinking about getting help from "The Only" boat repair service on Bang's Lake. We'll continue supporting our tried and trusted friend, Dave Miller, a short drive North at Miller's Dream Marine in McHenry. read more
